I stashed everything I carry except clothes, food and water in my new pack. Sleep system, shelter, pack and kitchen broke 20 pounds. Not by much you understand, but still. Major improvement.

I still had room for food and clothing. Hot doggy.

I made some python skins for the hammock. quick down and dirty DIY project. Now I am trying to figure out how to do an underquilt on the cheap.

thanks HOI.. I have seen those threads. From my perspective tho I think I am looking at a real cheap butt prototype just to see if I up the ante to down. When I say on the cheap I mean real cheap.

Ok then take a $20 dollar rectangular
sleeping bag and chop it up and add some sort of suppension system (shock cords) to attach the underquilt to the hammock

That's what I had in mind... but maybe even cheaper. Gotta check the yard sales around here.

Got myself a king sized bedquilt for $5. It's not down... but it is cheap and I know I can manage some kind of suspension for it. With remainder I'll make a casing for my sleep pad so I don't have to lie directly on the pad.

My buddy and I are going to Plattsburg to buy a kayak as soon as he gets back from school (he has a pick-up). I just got back from the Canadian Tire in the nearby city of Valleyfield where the same model (Pelican 10') goes for 399$ and I asked them to match Gander Mountain's price of 329$.

She called her manager and tried to pronounce 'Gander Mountain' (French, doncha know) and then she asked me if it was another Canadian Tire store. I informed her that Plattsburg was in the US. She informed the manager and he said no. She clearly thought I was insane.

They have a sign that says they'll match any competitor's price and I'm going to write a complaint. 80% of the Canadian population lives within 200 miles of the US border and our dollar is at par once again. Cross border shopping is the rage and car dealers and manufacturers have had to match US prices.

Anyhoo, it's wings night in Plattsburg and two-for-one beer and I'll save a buck a gallon of gas on my buddy's truck.

The Pelican's made here in Quebec, BTW.

I got a new pack --the REI Ridgeline 65...but I think I'm going to switch it out for the longer torso version. It's a nice little pack--well thought out...I like it better than my osprey.

I discovered 3 unused Dick's gift cards in my wallet. Since Dick's sucks for camping gear I usually just throw them in my wallet and forget about them.

Picked up a sleeping bag with a fleece liner for the wife (she hates the nylon lined ones), got a new platypus (my old one is more duct tape than platypus), and one of these babies:

thrify - I have 4 of those for the family. You'd think with a name like, "Light my Fire," it would be a different product though.

LOL
Canadian Tire is the Canuck big box store and main rival of Walmart up here - generally with better quality than WM.

It's on the car and I'm outta here in a few minutes to put it in the water.
