I've been eyeing that pack. I'm gonna get a lighter pack soon I just don't know which one yet.

I've had the G for a while and like the way it fits but I don't like the way the lid design is. It stays at the middle of the back of the pack.

I may get rid of mine here soon. I tried on the Granite Gear packs and really like the way they feel and has more traditional features of a regular pack but is lightweight.

But the G has been a great pack so far.

Binks...When Are You Gonna Carry Granite Gear ???
I'm patiently waiting for next year's line of Granite Gear pack to be released. Having read reviews of their packs, and getting to check out one of them, the only thing reviews and I don't like are the way the side pockets don't really have much room for items when the pack is full. I'll bet they'll improve on the design in next year's line wrt this issue...THEN, I plan to purchase a Vapor Trail.

I just got a new G-pack myself. I love the harness, just as comfy as my Forester. No when I get new sleeping bag my big 3 will weigh close to 5lbs!
My outfitter has a Mountainsmith Wisp on sale for $179.00 1lb 5oz. hmmmm!

One day late......
After work, I stopped by the beer store, then made way for my house. I took the long way home. I go south on the road that leads to my house.....what's this? Is that a Fed Ex truck I just pulled in front of.....and it's following me as I turn right on to my street.....and pulls up behind me.....COOL!!!!

I jump outta the car, meet the guy at the truck. I ask if he's here for my address and he sez yep! Why does getting new stuff in the mail excite me so?

So with that....I gloat:

2 Pairs of Royal Robbins Convertable pants, one charcoal, one Navy....very nice. They have a cool "gather" at the bottom so I can peg them (quite, Tarabull!!) No floppies!

One Golite ultralite snow cap - gotta go back. I like it, but it appears I'm a little bigger headed than I thought. I need a large. And to think when people called me that, they were right.....

One Marmot PreCip rain hat. Let's seen if it's better than my REI elements, which sucks!

And one folding saw. Hey, it was 5 bucks. It might work.

I've got the precip boonie hat, although i don't know where it is right now. I like it. I hardly use the hood now that I have that hat. But royal blue hats don't exactly match burnt orange, or whatever color MH calls it.

I don't know, but I'd definitely offend those who think you should only wear neutral colors so as to not take away from their experiencing the "true outdoors"

birch - yep! good timing!!

Stickmanwalking - I saw that hat at REI Outlet also. I thought about getting it, but I saw it after I placed my order. Maybe with the Golite return I'll get that. Also, I have a PreCip in that orange. Marmot calls it "Paprika"..LOL!

I just got a new Red Ledge rain jacket. I've had the pants for about a year and like them. The jacket is a lot lighter and more compact than my old raincoat.

new gear - well sort of

a new pot to boil water in -

a Heineken 24 ounce can with the top cut off - my lightest weight and cheapest pot yet - $2.60 at Sheetz - too bad about the beer

works well with the Ion stove - the pot support from the Ion stove is just about perfect fit into the depression in the bottom of the pot

Bought some Columbia Sawtooth shoes yesterday. I figure that for most hiking around Ky/Tn, I don't need boots, plus these were on sale for 50 bones or so. Should I try to spray something on them? They're mesh and suede, or whatever you call the textured leather.

Also, at Wally World today, I found a Starter brand shirt that's some kind of wicking stuff similar to dri clime. They call it dri star. It's pretty neat for $10, long sleeve with a zipper at the neck. To me it feels as good as the coolmax stuff that costs way more.

I just ordered up an 8oz MH powergrid polartech zip neck fleece. I've been watching it at STP for awhile and the price dropped down to $28! It started out at $76. I hope it shows up tomorrow. The 100 weight polartech top it's replacing is holey and worn, bought it used @ REI for $7 and it's probably one of the more commonly used items I have. I could survive with it on our nine day trip but geeze, why the heck didn't I pay for three day air delivery?!

I just got my new Cascade Pack from ALPS Mountaineering. I purchased it on their Pro Tester Program. Very nice pack to say the least. I'm very happy with my purchase. Plus I also purchased the new ALPS Blue Ridge -20 Mummy Bag. I needed a new winter bag. The bag fits mt perfect, especially in the shoulders. I'll use it this coming Winter when I camp.
