Oh, and he hopes you don't mind that he's an Ohio State fan.” 6:47:06 PM 8/20/03 I meant to do that “Part of my new policy of repeating everything I say for the sake of clarity.” 6:48:36 PM 8/20/03 I'm Freeeee................... Free Balling “One day last week in the Daks, I wore my chamois-lined MH Pack Shorts, and underneith...ummmm...I let it all hang out for the day. AND I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!” 6:49:45 PM 8/20/03 “dude, I saw your first post, I'm not ignoring you. lol!” 6:50:15 PM 8/20/03 “LMAO buddur. I hope you didn't get your "junk" caught on any prickers (excuse pun).” 6:52:00 PM 8/20/03 “I know. I was only kidding about the repeating everything. I added your name at the top right as I clicked the thing, then clicked again out of habit. Somehow this little anecdote lost its humor in between my brain and the screen.” 7:09:33 PM 8/20/03 “Hoping to do a lot of winter trips this year. With that in mind On the way from REI-outlet Timex temperature sensor watch for me Marmot down sweater for her Golite midnight sun jacket for me Nordic Gear Alps Hat for her Insport Drysport Tee for her Still looking for the right WP glove shells, gaiters, crampons, thermal longjohns and saving up for colder sleeping bags.” 7:11:47 PM 8/20/03 “REI-Outlet has the ALPS Taurus tent and the Downright Sierra Hollofil bag on sale right now! I purchased the Sierra Bag for my girlfriend yesterday. I was a good buy! Couldn't pass that up!” 3:21:10 PM 8/21/03 “Currahee - if you're gonna bp in snow, make a sled and slip your down bag into your synthetic bag. It kept me and some others warm in -20 weather.” 4:24:01 PM 8/21/03 “Hey BB do you have your own backpack sled???? I am thinking about getting one but I would like to know what you did? 8)” 5:36:18 PM 8/21/03 “I just bought one of these from binks. good price and I picked it up today Nalgene Kaibab III Hydration Pack-2002 Model” 9:19:19 PM 8/21/03 “thought I would throw this one back to the top since it is a good deal on the Nalgene Hydration pack” 3:15:14 PM 8/22/03 “Some good Sled links: http://www.sledwarehouse.com/plasticsleds.htm This one has a gear sled for sale (check out the price!), but has good links to some good sleds: http://www.shopoutdoors.com/sleds.html The one I'm getting: http://www.thesportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1167645&cp=701182&page=2&pageBucket=0&parentPage=family” 3:51:33 PM 8/22/03 “While 'camping' at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, AL this weekend, I drove up to the Wal-Mart Superstore to get some supplies. Found some Aztec print cotton bandannas for $1.26 each. Pretty cool patterns and colors. A little different than the usual bandanna.” 4:17:44 PM 8/24/03 Bibler Bipod Bivy. “I just got it today and it is so PIMP!!!!! Man I can't wait to use it on the Prictured rocks trip!!!! 8)” 6:19:20 PM 8/27/03 “I got my osprey Ariel 60 today. Seams like a nice and light pack. Lets hope I finally found "my" pack. I do love my gregory, but it's just too heavy. I still will use it if I need the space.” 6:28:29 PM 8/27/03 “I have been using Osprey packs for awhile now and I love them!!! 8)” 6:31:23 PM 8/27/03 “Went shopping the other day..I purchased a few things.....I got a PrincetonTek head lamp( been wanting one for a long time....tired of holding flashlight in my mouth...LOL)....and trekking poles....wooo hoooo” 8:37:53 PM 8/27/03 “I don't know about the rest of you, but just having a headlamp made a huge difference for me. I have a Tikka and a Black Diamond, both small, and I don't even notice I'm wearing one most times, yet having both hands free is almost like a luxury. Sounds dumb, I guess, but it beats even the smallest hand held light.” 10:36:59 PM 8/27/03 “Not sure what to do with my hair ...” 11:03:36 PM 8/27/03 “Just let it all fall out. That's what I'm doing.” 11:06:10 PM 8/27/03 “omg....LOL....hahahahaha...too cute...” 11:07:20 PM 8/27/03 57" 15-Ply Of Pure Power Birch “I did it!!! I finally ordered a piece of gear I've been coveting for well over a year. Why did I decide to get it now, you may ask??? Aw, who knows!!! Anyways it's THIS” 4:36:06 PM 9/10/03 “quit flattering birch.” 4:38:22 PM 9/10/03 “BTW, what the great googly-moogly is it?” 4:39:20 PM 9/10/03 “Thank you sir may I have another.” 4:40:10 PM 9/10/03 WhyPutAPackOnYourBackWhenYouCouldPullIt? 4:58:13 PM 9/10/03 Cool “that was my original thought. No really, it was, but I'd never seen one with that shape. Very unusual.” 5:03:16 PM 9/10/03 “One for Tom and one for Buddur?” 6:23:15 PM 9/10/03 6:27:36 PM 9/10/03 “Hey Pennsy, Looks like you got a nice, puffy, warm jacket for winter. I just finished making my new pack so I guess I have some new gear too. It's a 5000 c.i. silnylon pack. It has loads of features I like, custom fitted shoulder straps and hipbelt, zipper access through the back, removable shelf, double daisy chains with abrasion panel, water bottle holsters, divided and removable compression straps, silnylon lined packcloth bottom and bomber suspension to carry heavier loads if I need to. It's waterproof too so no pack cover is needed. It weighs somewhere around 3.5 pounds. The next model will be more basic, lighter and easier for me to build. This one was a challenge for sure.” 6:49:38 PM 9/10/03 “That's awesome Rich. I can't wait to see it in action. When you go into business, I want to be your first customer.” 7:18:09 PM 9/10/03 “Sounds sweet richb - let's see some pics.” 9:15:02 PM 9/10/03 “I got some new pants. Coumbia lightweight supplex long zip-off pants - their made for fishing but work great for hot weather hiking. I already have the non-zip ones and thought that was enough but on a recent trip I was wishing I could convert to shorts and back without dirtying up two articles of clothing.” 9:21:57 PM 9/10/03 “I don't have a digital camera, but maybe Pennsy can snap a picture of it on the Quehanna trip in a couple of weeks.” 10:32:47 PM 9/10/03 “I've ordered one of these..... http://www.trailquest.net/dlgctarps.html Should be here in time for TC3. Have used a Sierra Designs Clip 3CD for the last 2 years. Really love it (Great for 2, luxurious for one, forget three..). Am going the tarp/hammock route until the weather won't allow it any more.” 10:50:35 PM 9/10/03 “I made an 8X10 grey siltarp last night with 12 reinforced guypoint loops. I looks nice and I can't wait to try it out.” 7:43:48 AM 9/16/03 “Cool, where do you get your silnylon?” 8:52:58 AM 9/16/03 “From Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics. If you get it to make tarps or anything that has to be waterproof get 1st quality fabric. The second quality fabric has too many flaws in the coating and isn't worth wasting time and money on.” 12:58:51 PM 9/16/03 “Thanks, I want to get some to play with. I am thinking about a new tarp design with like a modified trapezoid with a closed off end, at the foot and maybe a beak in the front.” 2:29:34 PM 9/16/03 “I bought the silnylon to try to make an extension to my 8x10 tarp so that when I take my Trekker Insert, I will have more coverage from driving rain. The extension will be removable so I can also just take the 8x10 tarp when I want to. The dark green almost perfectly matches the green Equinox tarps.” 2:37:44 PM 9/16/03 “I was thinking about making a silnylon trekker tarp.” 3:03:35 PM 9/16/03 “Lyndy has the rain been a problem with that setup. I just picked up a trekker insert to use under a sil-nylon tarp.” 3:07:08 PM 9/16/03 “Yeah, the rain has prevented me from getting out on the trail if that is what you mean. Actually I set it up and you have to put the 10 ft section the length of the tent so that you have protection over the peaks. Then you have the 8 ft length covering the sides. Is fine in a light drizzle, but a blowing downpour would require more coverage, mostly over the side door so that you could get into the tent without then having to restake the tarp over the door from inside the doorway. Hence the idea of adding an extension. I talked with RichB about it and he thought that if I sewed nylon straps on both sections so that the main tarp shingles over the extension (you tie them together with an overlap) that it should work without me having to own a 8x10 and 10 x 12 tarp. The fabric was $24 for three yards. Get 3 1/2 yards and you don't even need to make a center seam, and your extension is 5 ft wide minus sewing edges and overlap.” 3:14:57 PM 9/16/03 “Thanks, I was going to play around with it this weekend trying different setups. I thought coverage would be a little harder than with a bug bivy. The extensions sound like they would work.” 3:20:08 PM 9/16/03 “Actually it is one extension. I wasn't going to worry about the side that doesn't have a door, just stake the tarp relatively close to the tent. The side with the door is hard to get into unless you have the tarp staked out far or propped up with trekking poles, and then you don't have good coverage from wind driven rain. Needs a few more feet, hence the extension on one side. Needs a lot of ties to prevent gaps when pulled taut.” 4:05:49 PM 9/16/03 “My new Sierra Zip stove arrived yesterday and it works great. It has been improved over my previous model. Instead of a draft control with a single fan speed, it now has a control switch for Low, Off, and High speeds for the fan on a separate box holding the AA battery. A cable connects the control box to the stove. And the entire unit seems to have been constructed stronger. It was so shiny and pretty, I hated to start a fire in it and get soot all over parts of it. But it performed real good and boiled some water fast. It is much faster than the esbit and the fuel costs are limited to an occassional AA battery. So now it is back to the woods. I have two 6-day trips planned, followed by a 23-day trip. The new stove will get a good workout. Bye, bye.” 5:34:55 PM 9/19/03 ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO “Got my longboard and trucks today...wheels and bearings yesterday...just got it all hooked up and ready to roll 8) Too bad everything is still wet from Isabele 8(” 5:49:38 PM 9/19/03 “At the TCO porch sale I picked up some of my favorite hiking socks - Wigwam comfot hikers. I've started using them for working out and playing basketball as well. Also got a Mountain Hardwear Synergy backpacking shirt. It's pretty cool. tango really raked in.” 8:12:22 PM 9/19/03 Nice self control Coop! “Nah, Coop I didn't rake but I got: Lowa Renegade GTX Mid for $59.00 Pacific Trail bibs for $16.99 TNF sleeveless top for $15.99 Florida Hiking Trails $14.23 I am psyched about the boots they felt really good on.” 11:35:09 PM 9/19/03 Jump to Page << prev
