Are you around?

Hey is it true about the fire ban in Pa? I went to their website and couldn't find anything about it. The article that bg linked to mentioned the fire problem and a ban on burning debris but not campfires. I am trying to confirm it with the rangers but have not had a response yet.

I don't know anything about this but I'll call the DCNR office tomorrow.

Cool, I e-mailed them friday night, not holding my breath for a response.
It will be a real bummer if we can't have a campfire.

Will anyone in the group bring a lantern? I have a white gas coleman backpacking model that I would bring. But it burns gas like crazy and weighs 2lbs.

At least we could all sit around the lantern.

I have an old Coleman "Backpacker" lantern. It has one mantle.Maybe I'll bring that with me.I haven't used it in years because of weight/size.I always carry a candle lantern instead.

I havent heard of any ban. I talked to a forrester last week and it was ok for fires so long as the danger level was below "high".
Considering what I ran into last week you shouldnt have any trouble getting stuff to burn as there was a lot of deadfall from the heavy snows and ice storms.

Johnmck, I have the backpacker lantern also. I am going to call the rangers today just to get an official word, not that I donot beleive all of you, about the fires. If they say no fires I will bring it and a bottle of white gas.
At least we will have some light to congregate around, and not wander around in the dark.

This is from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources web site, also a link to it.

(b) Open fires are prohibited when the forest-fire danger is determined by the District Forester to be High, Very High or Extreme and from March 1 through May 25 and from October 1 through December 1 without authorization from the District Forester or a designee. This prohibition does not apply to small self-contained camp stoves when used in a safe manner.

Hardy har har Dare! You'll get yours pal, real soon. ;o)

Actually, I do have a portable battery charger and an inverter that can run AC gizmos. It's 20lbs. Anybody wanna carry it?

Back to the fires... the part about authorization is interesting. With all this wet weather, I'm wondering if we can take advantage of this loophole. Anybody got connections with the DCNR?
