I'm taking CP xc skiing in the Tughill NY area tomorrow, but I ain't teaching him anything. Lilmountaingirl (Hi, by the way!) just had to remind me of the time I tried to teach someone how to ice climb, when I didn't have much of a clue.

I got better at the ice stuff though, and it does help to have the proper gear. Here's some pics from last weekend in the Dacks.

“We're back in one piece. Well, maybe a few pieces. This was CP's first time on xc skis and his body is reminding him of that. But he's hooked and bought xc gear!

The xc conditions were awesome. I can't believe this area is just over 4 hours from here and yet they've received over 10 feet of snow already. Piles and piles of snow everywhere, yet the sign in the ski shop reads "Wait until winter actually arrives." We also found a gem in the middle nowhere called "The Hayloft Pub." Yummy.”

“How'd you like the town "roads" out there? Around here we call those jeep trails.

When's the next ski trip?”

“Excellent day ! I only fell 4x and that was in an effort to stop. I remained upright through the skiing part, but when we got to a down hill no matter how hard I did the snow plow = I just kept going! I used the full body brake which worked great and I stopped on a dime! But was slightly painful.

I got a sweet deal on gear. Skis,boots,bindings,poles,and wax for $312.00 !!”

“CrazyPace got waxed. TMI.”

“Grems - we didn't get hit at all. It was all north and east of us.

Zac - I'm glad we went up in CP's 4x4 instead of my Jetta. But, we did remark how wide the roads were. We figured they had to be wide so they had some place to shove all that snow.

CP picked up narrow Madshus BC skis, Rottefella NNN BC bindings, Alpina 1550 BC boots, and some nice Salomon poles. He got a real sweet deal, and he owes me for taking him there. He did real good for a first timer on xc skis. He even got some good kick and glide going. Downhill is another story. He sucks real bad at that.

Next ski trip should be Lake Placid between Xmas and New Year's.

“Nice setup. I've got the same boots and bindings on my skis. I'm really liking the boots, they work with my skis, snowshoes, crampons, and fit in my overboots. I'll be using them for FYAO.”

“Which one of you jokers is gonna haul my stuff for FYAO?”

“I ain't haulin that 12lb tent that never got used again.”

“Alas, the Geo Mountain Dome has succumbed to the weather and the fly ripped.......R.I.P. Old Tent.”

“I remember that tent. MarkO brought it to a FYAO, I forget which one but it was the one where we all met the Pope for the first time. It took eleventy men and eleventy hours to set it up with the intention of sleeping.... well... eleventy, but it ended up being the world's largest solo tent.
