He's back telling everyone what a climbing stud he is over there. I guess he hasn't really been exposed as a fraud on that board like he was here.

Now can we be a lil' more respectful of the person who began this thread and not try to turn this thread into one of your Thebackpacker forum threads?
You cant touch me now......not that you ever did affect me anyway...

Maple, the guys posted above are right. Don't feed into this. The man has some serious pathological tendencies and a need to express himself in this bizarre fashion. He also knows that people from this site go over and lurk on that site. so, don't play into it. It's not worth re-igniting. do yourself and everyone else a favor and let the rantings go unanswered..

Maple --
I have all the sympathy in the world for what Twinkle went through (or, I should say, for what I suspect Twinkle had to deal with) . . . .and I have some sympathy also for those TT folks, and others, who got involved with Goretexx on hikes and in social situations . . .

HOWEVER!!!!

Your obession with him borders on pathological. I certainly don't know what pathological means . . .but your obsession with G-texx seems like a good time to use the word.

At some point i have begun to wonder exactly who is stalking whom in this situation. The lines are getting blurry.

Let it go.

I know you didn't start it Maple, and I know you feel aggrieved, and you are probably justified in your feelings.

My suggestion was NOT born of any sympathy for G-texx, who sounds like the worst kind of clown . . .it merely is an observation that by dogging him from forum to forum, and dredging it up, trotting it out, and raking it over again . . .

you are not doing YOURSELF any favors. At some point you are no longer diminishing G-texx . . .you are diminishing yourself.

i think that goretex is probably still checking this board and laughing at all of us.

This is exactelly what he wants attention! Leave the jerk alone! Sooner or later others will know his true face. No need for any of us to say anything bad/good about him.

Others WILL realize what or who he really is. Give it some time!

My point is that if this person is a fraud, then advice he is giving other people on other boards, when he isn't just bragging, is suspect and possibly dangerous if followed by someone who believe in his BS. If you know something that can prevent this from happening, you're just being a good netizen.

I am in agreement with Ewker, Violin (only on this topic), StoveStomper and particularly Lee.

Just drop it.

No matter how docile an animal is it will bite if you bait it long enough.

If you do not like something or someone, stay away, it makes a more peaceful World.

Goretexx behaved irrationally when he and 'Chelle broke up. Not the first to do this, not the last. People do behave irrationally in times of emotional stress. Not excusing the behavior, but that now seems to be over. I would venture the opinion that his behavior over the breakup meant he cared a lot and was hurt by the breakup.

A big part of the bitterness seems to involve breaches of trust, "X said this" "Y said that" probably with some truth but mostly out of context. All parties now seem to be in different parts of the Country and life goes on.

I do not see many perfect people, many are prone to exaggeration, lots use recreational drugs (caffiene, alcohol, nicotine).

The trashing he gets seems to be out of proportion to the errors he made.

BTW I did meet him on the Catskills Revenge trip, he and Cpl Nasty descended Sugarloaf in the dark which given the conditions was pretty good going.

The worst aspect of this ongoing trashing is that the board seems to have lost good people in addition to GTX leaving. There has been no word from Cpl Nasty who wrote great reports with photos.

Bitterness begets bitterness.

Yep, but road rage kills a lot more down here.

Also advice can only harm if followed blindly. I tend to evaluate a source before giving credibility to what I am told, even more so as the stakes go up.

I agree with Violin and Lee. Yes, I realize Gear Slut started the thread. But, mapleleaf (and yes, I do like you despite what you might think) people have said before to just leave the Goretex thing alone. And you've agreed to do that. I've seen it more than once, words to how bad Goretexx is and to steer clear of him. Yet you end up back on threads about him.

Stick by your word is my bit of advice. I've done some stupid things on these boards I'm not proud of (no, not referrring to trolling). I wish someone would have told me to wake up and think about stuff... and then to just can it! So am speaking from personal experience. (nope, won't say more than that)

I gotta agree with Liz at this point. I have no doubt who the jerk is - but for the people on the thread on that other site - it's bad enough that he is posting to a climbing thread - the fact that the thread degenerates into name calling because he is attacked there only makes it worse - and it makes it less clear as to who the jerk is.

It's a lot easier for people not close to the situation to pontificate on this issue. When you've opened your home and life to somebody you see as a friend, and when that "friend" turns around and craps in your face, then maybe you will understand where Maple is coming from. The wound is deep.

And when that person continues to present himself in a golden light, continues to spin off fairy tales of his prowess, then it becomes nearly impossible to not comment.

I met Goretex. I thought he was a great guy. He is a hiking stud. But, caught in a lie, he continues to make stories up. He continues to put down the people who reached out and befriended him, who he later crapped on.

If it had happened to just one person, I might have looked askance. But it happened to a host of people I know and respect. The stories from each were virtually the same, and their reaction was virtually the same - a sense of betrayal and hurt, followed by deep anger.

Don't expect Maple to not have human reactions to what has been a hurtful, spiteful, and uncomfortable situation, not to mention her feelings over what transpired to Twinkle Toes, who continues to be a close friend.
