“Lessee, it costs $200? For $200, you can buy a Katadyn (nee Pur) Hiker, and 5 replacement cartridges, which equals 1200 gallons of filtered water, nearly twice what that thing will purify. Plus the Hiker will remove some bad tastes as well. Sure that pen may kill viruses, but time and time again, you hear people say you don't have to worry about viruses in the water in the U.S. So,if you're going abroad, it might be a good choice, but for backpacking, I don't think so.”

“I think it said it weighed 8oz with batteries. That is lighter than the Hiker, but not a lot. Plus I'd be afraid of dropping and breaking the thing. You drop it, you're out $200, you drop and break a Hiker, it's only $50.”

“I guess it depends on which hiker you drop. The heavy ones break pretty good when dropped, it is just so hard to lift them.”

“Well, if a whole bunch of people buy it, eventually economies of scale will kick in and the price will come down. So, what everyone has to do is say really great things about it and get everyone else to buy it so that the price for us will be lower.

Personally, I'm going to buy three.
