Division destroyed?

“Okay, I don't have cable where I'm at, so I'm checking war coverage from the internet.

Anyone else checking recent reports? They suggest that an entire division of Iraqi Republican guards - Baghdad division - has been destroyed and that our troops are 19 to 26 miles from southern Baghdad meeting less resistance than expected. I checked Reuters and aponline.

Will we be sipping lattes in Baghdad today?”

I haven't heard anything about that, but I sure hope its true. I just worry that they have another terrorist tactic that we're not prepared for.”

I'm getting three stations on the TV. One is PBS - thank God. The other is a local Fox station and I get an NBC station that has a reporter sending back reports from Holland. So, while the war reaches its climax, I'll be watching King of the Hill reruns.

“The Republican Guard has been pretty much chewed up, but the rosiest estimates I have heard put combat efficiency at 50 percent and they still represent a credible threat. Nobody is going to be sipping lattes in Bag-It-Dad anytime soon, but the fighting is inching closer.

My own sense of things is that the end will come quickly when it comes. The defenses will ultimately implode. But there will still be pockets of resistance, and it makes no damn difference whether you are killed by a pocket of resistance or a full frontal assault. You are still dead.

I don't care whether you are a hawk or believe this war is wrong, our guys and gals are dying over there and this is serious business. They still have a hard row to hoe, and a long way to go. Under very difficult circumstances, they are doing what they were ordered to do and they are doing a damn fine job of it. Hoo-ahh! And for you Grunts out there, Hoo-Rah, because when the shooting starts, we're all one - Doggies, Grunts, Swabs, and Zoomies!”
