Memphis in May
Memphis in May officially kicks off with the Beale Street Music Festival . This years lineup is not as impressive as some years, but there is nothing shabby about it.

Are you kidding me, Chili? That's a great line-up...

We had one year that was awesome....

Dylan, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Skynard, Taylor, Willie AND Waylon,,,,the list went on. It was awesome. But for $44 bucks for three days. You can bet I will be there.

That sounds like a great deal, man. You can barely see a b-rated band for 44 bucks these days. And it being a street festival? Makes for a fun atmosphere, I suspect...

It spills out of Beale Street into Tom Lee Park (about 15 acres right on the Mississippi River). Multiple stages and constant music, beer and food.

And yes, I will probably be in party mode that whole weekend.

OMG, that sounds great. I've always enjoyed Beale Street. Never been to the music festival. Probably too late to book a hotel downtown, eh? Oh well, maybe I can hire a taxi.

chili - will you be competing in any of the barbeque or chili contests?

Anybody who plans to go will need to get their tickest ASAP, this thing will sell out quick. Generally they only sell about 100,000 tickets. But before you go nuts, realize this thing is all over southern downtown.

Hotel rooms in Tunica might be available. I would suggest looking in East Memphis area, I don't think anything will be available downtown. If I hadn't just sold my house, I would offer to house as many as showed up, but I am cramped on space presently, LOL. That's what happens when you sell before you decide what you want to buy.

dayhiker, the BBQ contest is the third weekend in May. I haven't qualified, but have been asked by a couple of teams to help. The problem with the MIM World BBQ Championship is that it is a heck of a lot of work, for about a whole week. I told our company that if they would sponsor me next year, I would get us qualified and we could use the event to entertain clients and execs for a week. So far, they haven't warmed up to it very much. A man can always dream.

I would love to see Joe and many of others. My wife and I will decide this weekend if we're going or not. This occurs the weekend after my 4 day Smokies trip, so I'll just have to see.

Birmingham has a pretty good street festival, but it's in late June. Late June in Alabama with 100,000 of your closest friends has never sounded fun to me, so I've never been. The heat would just be unbareable.

dayhiker, if it will help, I'll email your wife and tell her how sexy that man can be.....IMHO

will that help?

That's a tempting offer, but I'm thinking a different angle from sex appeal would work better, ie make me more comfortable.

The real issue is that this is the busiest time of year at work and not a good time to only work 7 days over 2 weeks when my competitors are working 12.
