Old tent
We have an old tent--a Walrus we bought in 1985--the one with a few mildew stains. It has virtues we like--sleeps three for a total weight of six pounds--great head room--nice when taking kids.

The metal zipper works but it was really stiff. Is there anything we can do to make it slide better again?

It has no mesh except when the door and window are opened. Do you know if a spray on DWR will make it waterproof without the fly? No fly saves two pounds.

Zipper-Ease is used for lubing wet suit zippers, should work well for tents.
You can find it in fabric shops also.
Don't have any comments about waterproofing tent bodies, other than single wall tents NEED a lot of vents.

If you waterproof it and zip it up, man will you be wet inside. I've never used single wall tents, but they must be designed to deal with the condensation in some way. If the fly is just stained but still waterproof, I'd use it anyway, as long as it doesn't stink.
