What I think is lost to most Americans is the anger, the hunger, the thirst, the lack of hope, the ferocity, the need for revenge that dwells inside people who have been oppressed, who have nothing, and who have known nothing but violence their whole life. Think about it! When is the last time you slaughtered your own meat for the table? When did you see someone's dead body lying in the street? You can become immune to death, it can become part of everyday life, this is not so in America.. we always sweep death under a mat and paint our dead up in coffins so they look alive. We never deal with it.”

“Tarp Rat, you are right, I can't imagine what it was like for these people to experience so much tragedy over so many years. The fear of imprisonment, torture, threat of death or torture to immediate family members, so many lost in previous wars, not to mention lack of food or medicine, it is impossible for me to put myself in these people's shoes. Are you saying that the average Iraqi (not the wealthy Ba'ath) is mostly thinking about expressing themselves violently as a result, or just a small percentage of the Iraqis? I am surprised that they don't then refocus their anger on the oppressors close at hand, rather than focusing on America. Sounds like propaganda on top of oppression, perpetrated by the leaders, rather than a natural tendency to blame the Americans. Maybe the Arab leaders direct the anger of the populous at the Americans, so as to not be the target themselves.

I looked at the Arab news site posted and read the article on OPEC. How the OPEC quotas work is fairly complicated and the member organizations have trouble getting each other to stick to their quotas. Adding Iraq to the mix will complicate it but eventually it needed to be done, even if Saddam had complied with the UN rules and the sanctions were dropped.”

About other nationalities, I was only talking about their apparent hatred of Americans in general. I used to think it was because of our relationship with Israel, but now it seems like more than that, somewhat related to propaganda fed them by their leaders to redirect their anger and attention away from leaders who directly control their lives.

I also wondered why Arabs in other countries who do have money, don't step up and offer to help their Iraqi neighbors with medical aid. Kuwait has helped but where is wealthy Saudi Arabia's offers?

At schools all across the US, there have been collections for money and school supplies to send to poor countries like Afghanistan. I'm sure that this adds up to small potatoes, but I would like to see news on the efforts of Mideast countries to help their neighbors in need. When are they going to call for the oil wealth to be used to help their own people?”
