I'm having trouble understanding something. How come these anti-war protestors are so special? How come they get to say "f#$k the government," but People in Iraq, China, N.Korea, and various other nations can't?
Perhaps freedom is something that can only be appreciated by the MTV generation of "let me be me" types that pollute the hallways of the liberal arts dept. with thier noxious combo. of patchouli and body odor. After all who, besides them, could speak with conviction of fear and suffering at the hands of a brutal dictatorship?
I would laugh if it wasn't so scary. I feel sorry for anyone who would rather be alive than free...

I would like to see what kind of welcome these liberal socialist scumbags would get from the Iraqi people they endeavored to keep subjugated.

How do ya think Susan Saranwrap, Martin Sheen, Ginean Garbagio and the rest felt watching the newly freed people of Bagdad dancing in the streets knowing full well they were not freed “in their name”?

Nigal:
As an anti-war observer I had many thoughts. Several were:

1) "Given the price paid, and the price yet to be paid for this, I am glad that someone is getting some benefit for this."

2) "If only Bush Sr. and his buddies hadn't been so afraid of change they couldn't control, they would have backed up the Iraqi uprising they asked for more than 10 years ago. The Iraqi people rose up and almost defeated Saddam then, and the Bush boys just let Saddams tanks roll and slaughter them."

3) I remembered the welcome Israelis got in Lebanon when they chased the PLO out - part hopeful gestures from a nervous people, part gratitude from people who had been mistreated by PLO gunman, they cheered and threw flowers. I hoped that the US would manage their victory better than Israel did theirs and that the fruits of what happened in Iraq would not be as bitter as those of the Lebanon invasion.

LOL! Kleety. I do listen to Michael but for entertainment purposes only. I believe in some of the things he talks about (immigration mostly) but all that is tempered with the realization he comes up woefully short on facts, figures and reasons for his thinking. If ya gonna have views that extreme, the facts they are based on better be equally extreme.

You know, these same folks that claimed a few thousand US war protesters didn't/don't represent the sentiments of the nation, sure are quick to point to a few (relative) Iraqi jumping around in front of the cameras as being indicative of the happiness of a people being conquered in a war.

Freedom seems to threaten some people. Always seems to be the people with an agenda. What is so threatening about an Iraqi speaking his/her mind? I would recommend speaking with Iraqi exiles, but the truth doesnt seem to be much of a priority does it?

What really makes me wonder is where all these fuzzy/stinkies were when Clinton was Bombing Kosovo? Oh, sure there were a few of the real pacifist types who will always oppose war, but not enough to even make the evening news, and in Portland Or. that is significant. Bottom-line: You/They are allowing your political animosity towards Bush to support a tyrant who would'nt think twice about snuffing any human life. I know some of you want to think of Bush as an evil person. O.K. let's say he is. How about the Pepsi challenge between him and Saddam? Let's hear some the the atrocities that the Bush admin. has commited vs. the Saddam admin. Be sure to consider corresponding body-counts.

Feel free to attribute any mis-spelling, or bad grammar to my overall intelligence and credibility. Lol, silly little liberals, so full of self-hate...

Troll...I'll wear that title like a badge of honor. Isn't it time to go watch Road-Rules, or Behind the Music, or something??? Perhaps a good time to catch-up on your Doctoral Thesis?

The US has yet to face the real challenge of Gulf War II: what to do after the shooting stops. I don't think anyone on either side of the debate expected much resistance from Saddam's army (as Saddam saw himself going down, I wonder why he didn't use his "massive stockpile" of Weapons of Mass Destruction?).

Furthermore, no sensible person has ever argued that Saddam is (was?) anything less than a monster. But then, there seems to be little disagreement that the military junta ruling Myanmar is just as despotic as Saddam was (worse, more likely), but I'd bet that George II and his cronies couldn't even find Myanmar on a map. No oil there, you see.

But one must remember that those Iraqis shown on TV shouting for joy over the overthrow of Saddam are by and large Shia Muslim (Saddam was Suni) - the same sect of Islamic fundamentalism from which the Taliban and the Iranian Islamic State herald. You know, the good ol' Axis of Evil.

So if we bring true democracy to Iraq (which is 80 % Shiite), then we run the real chance of helping yet another government gain power that is bitterly hostile to the US, just like we did in Afghansistan, and this time with the economic resources of the world's second-largest single oil supply.

So George II will most likely install some kind of puppet leader (my odds are on Chalabi - a no-account secular business man who had CIA backing after Gulf War I, at least for a while) who has no real backing from the Shia majority. I find Al-Khoie's murder very suspect, as he would've most likely gained a very strong grass-root support from the Shiite majority in a true democratic election.

BTW, Buddha, you and I used to be in the same "camp" (metaphorically speaking), at least where it came to wiping out the Taliban. Believe it or not, I - still - hold that the Taliban and Al-Qaeda deserve to reap the bounty of our rightous anger (along with the Saudis - they're getting off scott free in my opinion). I see this whole Iraq thing as being a diversion from taking on the REAL enemy. What ever happened to getting Bin Laden? We don't ever even hear about him, or Afghanistan for that matter. Supposedly, Al-Qaeda is still going strong in the mountainous region on the Afghani-Pakistani border. Why aren't we sending 200,000 troops THERE? Even our own CIA has said that they haven't found a connection between Saddam and 9/11, which isn't surprising, since Shiites (like Al-Qaeda) view Saddam (who was Suni) as a WORSE infidel than you or I.

Sure, getting rid of Saddam feels good, and rids Iraq of a monster, but I don't think the US is any safer for having invaded Iraq yet again. Even though we don't hear about it here in the US, the Arab world is LIVID about us going in there - Egypt is now a powderkeg by all reports. If another terrorist attack is levied against the US, you can bet it will come from one of our Arab "allies."

This war is primarily about oil, nothing more. I hate to see American soldiers die so that Dick Cheney can have a job at Halliburton when he and George II lose the election in 2004. If our good men and women must die in combat, let it be for a just cause (like getting Bin Laden).

I beleive our country is actually safer at this time. The entire world has seen the US capabilties, (although we do have more than shown) and they have seen our resolve. The countries that habor terrorists activities against us knows that we are tired of these third world countries bullying the US around. Thank God for the freedoms we have, to speak or minds, right or wrong, good or bad, pro or con. But the price that was paid for that freedom was Blood. From real people with real lives and real dreams. I for one will always be grateful for thier sacrifice. And as for Iraq, I am happy our taxes paid, gives us the ability to share some of that taste of freedom to other people.

Just remember Forrest.

September 11, 2001 brought organized terrorist their removal from Afganistan and the downfall of the Taliban.

September 11, 2001 brought the fall of Saddam Hussein and gave the Iraqi people freedom and hope.

September 11, 2001 has brought many sleepless nights for Osama bin laden, not knowing if tommorrow is his last day on earth.

Maybe terrorist like bin laden and his ilk will think what September 11, 2001 brought them and think twice before striking at this country again.

AH, the ol cry of bringing freedom to the iraqis....

true and permanant freedom can only be bought with the sweat and blood of the freed people, it cant be given. We are free and remain free because it is something we choose to fight for. The Iraqi people have not paid for thier freedom with their own blood. How long do you think it will be before a new regime takes their freedom away? If the iraqis are not willing to fight to gain their own freedom what makes you think they will lift a finger to even protect it?

"A humanitarian is always a hypocrite."

George Orwell

"Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want rain without thunder and lightning."

Frederick Douglas

“In the end more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free.”

Edward Gibbon

“The purpose of freedom is to create it for others.”

Bernard Malamud

“Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.”

Abraham Lincoln

Pedxing- didn’t you leave out Clinton in there somewhere? Clinton came between the “Bush boys” you know. Your statement about “…letting Saddams tanks roll…” would have been much more accurate and less biased if you had.

Kleetn- Don’t wait for Rush to tell you how to think, watch ABC, CBS, NBC, or pick up the New York Times. The refreshingly honest thing about Rush is that he doesn’t pretend to be a non-biased news source.

Tommy T.- The great defender of the McDonalds’ burger flipper with six kids and no education. Your poster boy for why we need to increase the minimum wage. But you believe that the educated Iraqi people, under a brutal dictator, should fend for themselves. Nope, no hypocrisy there.

My favorite one from ProtestWarrior.com was,

“Saddam only kills Iraqis. We have no business being there!”

I hear a guy call into a radio show and said he saw the funniest thing. He saw one of those hippy cars with 1,000 bumper stickers on it and the person had their requisite “No War In Iraq” sticker right beside their “Free Tibet!” sticker.
