'Phone Booth' The movie... “...I have read the ads and seen the commercials! It seems there's this guy who can't hang up the phone because the guy on the other end is a sniper that will shoot him if he does. Then, the commercials show the police surrounding him with armies of officers, SWAT teams and whatnot. They have all sorts of weaponry trained on him and seem to be accusing him of shooting somebody on the street. He, in turn, tries to tell them that they are mistaken (if I am reading this correctly). Why are the police held at bay if they don't believe the guy especially if he is unarmed)? Also, who called who? Did he call the maniac that is threatening to shoot him or was he walking by the ringing telephone booth and decided to answer if, much to his regret? All these questions and more could be answered if I go to see the film, I am aware. But, I don't want to. Anyone know anything about this seemingly inane plot. I do have the idea for the sequel though. This time he is trapped naked in a portable toilet at a construction site with all the workers surrounding him with catcalls and such. it's called "Port-A-San: When Nature Calls" Call a head for tix...” 10:05:45 AM 4/11/03 Here's the article on it 10:09:32 AM 4/11/03 “Are you thinking this is the first Hollywood flick with an inane, senseless, implausible plotline?” 10:12:17 AM 4/11/03 “I believe the real problem with the plot of this movie is that there is none.” 10:13:09 AM 4/11/03 “It's a copy of a Weasly Snipes movie that tanked a while back. He calls this lady who was responsable for his wife dieing or something and tells her to handcuff herself to a wiender cart or he'd kill her and others around her. I don't expect this turd to stink any less than the origanal turd. If I'm not mistaken there are only three storylines for movies nowdays in Hollywood and they all just keep making the same movies. Joe Dirt's a good watch.” 10:13:43 AM 4/11/03 “Seems like I remember from high school that there are only 7 plots, and everything you've ever seen is a variation on one of those.” 10:16:55 AM 4/11/03 “Pick up Brotherhood of the Wolf on DVD and you will find there really are good movies made still. Ya just have to look and dig for them.” 10:21:57 AM 4/11/03 “Man vs. Supernatural, lol...” 10:28:01 AM 4/11/03 “Of course there are still good flicks being made, Nigal. The industry is not dead. It's just subject to this custom of overkill that is rampant in this country. Milk whatever you can out of something, package it well, and sell it to whatever suckers will cough up for it...” 10:29:45 AM 4/11/03 Sequel # 3 “Why stop here? Have him trapped in an elevator in midtown Mnahattan, frantically searching for the non-existant 13th floor of a high rise office building. As the tension mounts, a gouge in the steel cables inch their way to the point of breaking... I can see it now: "This movie has it's ups and downs" - Roger Ebert "This film pushes all the buttons" - Joel Siegal” 10:36:44 AM 4/11/03 “Sequel #4 - "Ticket Booth" - He's trapped in the ticket booth of a theater and threatened with death if he sells tickets to lousy movies.” 10:38:47 AM 4/11/03 “Sequel #5 - "Toll Booth" - He's trapped in a tollbooth on the New Jersey Turnpike and threatened with death if he doesn't let the shooter's friends through for free.” 10:40:23 AM 4/11/03 “Sequel #6 - new sci-fi twist, "John Wilkes Booth" - He's transported back in time and threatened with death unless he allows John Wilkes Booth to assassinate President Lincoln.” 10:41:38 AM 4/11/03 “So how long until Ahhhnold posts here that you'd understand the plot if he had the lead role?” 10:42:28 AM 4/11/03 “Sequel #7 - "Peepshow Booth" - He's trapped in a Times Square peepshow booth and threatened with death unless he continues to feed quarters into the machine so he can continue to talk with the same, nude, bored stripper.” 10:44:11 AM 4/11/03 “Marty, don't prompt him. Don't awaken Conehead the Barbarian...” 10:45:43 AM 4/11/03 “Anybody want to make any bets about whether any of my ideas become movies by next summer? lol...” 10:47:12 AM 4/11/03 “"Milk whatever you can out of something, package it well, and sell it to whatever suckers will cough up for it.." Actually we should be thankful for these blockbusting turds because it's the millions upon millions that they make off movies like 8 Mile that let's them fund the lower grossing good ones. You know, like Jackass.” 10:51:40 AM 4/11/03 “That may be true, Nigal. But, personally, as scarcely as I get time to go to the movies, I'm a lot pickier about what I pay for...” 10:54:15 AM 4/11/03 Sequel # 8 “Let's see how far we can stretch this.. Our hero is stuck in a VW Beetle with 18 college kids high on ecstacy. They force him to drive to a downtown rave and try to dye his hair and pierce his cheek while driving, simultaneously being chased by the police...” 11:04:27 AM 4/11/03 “LOL you guys, this thread is more entertaining than that movie is likely to be.” 11:07:20 AM 4/11/03 “lmao @ SC” 11:13:49 AM 4/11/03 “Sequel #9 - Picture Booth - He's trapped in a picture booth and threatened with death if he makes the same funny face twice.” 12:22:34 PM 4/11/03 Sequel # 10 “"Shirley Booth" That wise cracking, old time TV maid named Hazel is up to her old antics again. This time she is actually our hero trapped in the ample sized housemaid's body. The polcie surround Hazel with bullhorns calling for him to come out with his hands in the air. They try starving her/him, but with amusing repercussions... "A Must See" - New York Times” 1:28:08 PM 4/11/03 “Sequel #11 - Powers Boothe - Colin Farrel is forced to speak using the acclaimed actor's distinctive baritone, under the threat of death. Police show up, but are now too bored to negotiate with him, and drive away when they see who it is.” 1:32:13 PM 4/11/03 “I'm running out of booths, Bit! Do I have to start with Booth 1A at the local flea market?” 1:39:43 PM 4/11/03 OK, Here goes! “Sequel # 12 "First Booth on the Left" Colin Farrel is back! Our man is in trouble again, only this time he is trapped in the first booth near the window of Periharos' Greek Diner on West Windsor Street in North Wales, Pa. An assassin threatens that if he stops eating, he will be shot...” 1:42:29 PM 4/11/03 “Sequel #12 - Flea Market Booth - Colin Farrel is back, this time forced to sell overpriced crap at a flea market in the country, under the thread of death. Lascivious redneck girls pester him by trying to pick him up, until finally, the stalker shoots him and puts him out of his misery.” 1:45:21 PM 4/11/03 “lmao, Bit. We have two sequel twelves. How much did that cheap ass studio pay you?!!!” 1:46:05 PM 4/11/03 “Almost did a restaurant booth one, but the flea market booth was too good to pass up...” 1:46:59 PM 4/11/03 “Not enough! But hey, this is what producers get paid to do, right? Sit around and think up high-concept stuff?” 1:47:44 PM 4/11/03 “Sequel #13 - Troll Booth - Colin Farrel is back, this time forced to post 24/7 on Trail Talk, under the thread (sic) of death. Other posters pester him accusing him of being a troll, until finally, the stalker shoots him and puts him out of his misery” 1:49:02 PM 4/11/03 “lol...I'm using rented fingers today, yah that's it, that's the ticket...” 1:50:55 PM 4/11/03 “treebeard, I have no new booth to add at the moment, but I had the same reaction to the trailers as you did. I've even seen them at the theater, and it makes no sense. Clearly he has no weapon, etc., etc. According to the movie theater's website here, it only runs 81 minutes, so the filmmakers couldn't think of much to even keep the idea going for the hoped for 90 minutes. Colin Farrell is "hot" right now, but he better be careful in script selection or his career will get a bit "ripe" from the heat. Nigal, I saw "Liberty Stands Still" with Wesley Snipes and Linda Fiorentino when it came out on video. It had more going on than what is apparently presented in "Phone Booth," though it was so dogmatic/didactic about it's anti-gun message that it undercut any hope that the film could have any substance. In "Liberty," the police were certainly not under any misimpression that Fiorentino had a gun on her (hell, she strips at one point), though there was a bomb in the hotdog cart to which she was handcuffed.” 1:56:12 PM 4/11/03 “I rented "Possession" the other night and thought it was good. A romance for the historians out there.” 1:58:37 PM 4/11/03 “So, this piece of s__t looks to be about what i think it is... Res Ipsa Loquitur” 1:58:37 PM 4/11/03 “I also agree with Nigal that "Brotherhood of the Wolf" is a pretty cool flick.” 2:00:12 PM 4/11/03 For a good movie: “"Treebeard and Maple do the NYC Auto Pound," starring Richard Dreyfuss and Shirley Booth” 2:05:38 PM 4/11/03 “Introducing Treebeard and Mapleleaf (it's our first flick)” 2:06:28 PM 4/11/03 “No tree, you wouldn't be starring in the flick. It would just be about you.” 2:13:37 PM 4/11/03 “Sorry, misread that, Geo. Gee, and I was all gunned up for that. talk about a letdown. I didn't even make it to the casting couch...” 2:15:01 PM 4/11/03 “How about the "Trail Talk Connection," in which a frustrated Popeye Doyle goes over treebeard/mapleleaf's car in impound to try to find out why it is LIGHTER than the factory specs -- what is the trick, he must know, to reducing the load. "Everytime these folks drive their car to the trailhead, it's lighter than the last time!!! What are they up to?"” 2:16:52 PM 4/11/03 “Yer not my type. Hmmm, make that Nicole Kidman instead of Shirley Booth. Yesss!” 2:17:51 PM 4/11/03 “And each time the car is exactly one case of beer lighter in weight” 2:18:38 PM 4/11/03 Hey Geo! 4:14:27 PM 4/11/03 Sequel 13? “The Booth Fairy Colin now finds himself forced to perform sex acts on men in a public phone booth or he'll be shot... Couldn't resist, you guys had taken all the good ones already.” 6:50:57 PM 4/13/03
