Adirondack High Peaks
Hello Everyone!

I'm attempting to organize a trip to the High Peaks for the first weekend in May - May 3,4. I have to check with my work schedule, but I would like to take off Thursday and Friday, so the dates would be, tentatively, May 1-4.

My idea is to congregate and camp at Lake Colden, so we'll have a number of Peak/dayhike possibilities.

Anyone interested?

hey Bobo. Let me check with Maple. There's a lot going on with us in the coming weeks, but maybe we could get away for at part of the time anyway. I will talk to her and check calendar and get back to you, ok?

Hey Bobo,

Looks like this could be another good trip. My problem is that my venture crew may be doing "battles and paddles" that weekend on the leehigh(sp?). If we are I would have to attend the white water rafting and paint balling trip. If that falls through I would be glad to join you.

treebeard, thanks for the shout, I hope you guys can make it.

M_Silver - hmmm, I haven't received any e mail from you...

Ice Tea - paint balling? You'd better wear a jock! Sounds like a chilly fun ride on the Lehigh, you know you're in fat city when you've got multiple trips lined up!

sirpete - thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind. Take some nice pix in the smokies, watch out fer dem bears!!!

Paintball is fun and all but actually, Scouts aren't allowed to use paintball as a Unit activity.

Good God Tea, it sounds like your unit leaders are doing everything they can to get themselves removed. You might want to suggest to them that they actually READ the G2SS.

Tea. It's never ok in Scouting. Laser tag is fine, paintball isn't
Unauthorized and Restricted Activities
Guide To Safe Scouting Every Scout leader is held accountable to follow these guidelines. If the G2SS isn't followed........

Well, it gets ugly VERY fast.

Right now you are a kid, it's not your responsability to be aware of all the nuances of the G2SS but you are almost 18 (21 for Venturers). If you intend to be an adult leader you need to get Youth Protection training, Position specific training (I suggest Scoutmaster Fundamentals) and read the G2SS at the very least. If you are a Adult volunteer with a unit that doesn't adhere to the rules and something goes wrong YOU WILL ALSO BE HELD LIABLE. Protect yourself.

Sheesh, I sound like a busybody prude. Sorry guys didn't mean to co-op the thread.
Tea, feel free to email me if you'd like.

Glad to hear that John is ok. Can you drop me a line?

Bobo - I'm in for the Daks trip. I would not be surprised to see ice and snow on those dates, so winter gear may be in order.

Bring warm gear. The last time I climbed Mt Colden it was a warm drizzle day (in August)below & an ice storm on top. The top is round bare rock with a long drop down into avalanche lake. What made it cute were signs asking you to stay off the tundra. What amazed me was the traction we had on the rocky trail with water flowing over it. (no moss or algae)
