LOOK STRAT please name one time ive said that going to war is the wrong decision. you cant because i never did. i just get tired of you harping on the opinion polls like they matter. i regretfully see the necessity of the war. but youve made up your mind im some pinko lefty (the fact of the matter is, in 3 elections, i never once voted democrat, or green, for that matter. i HAVE voted republican, however). one more time: POLLS DONT MATTER FOR #&%!$!

No actual connection has ever been demonstrated between Saddam and al-Qaida. Still.

I keep hearing that the Bush Administration spends as much on polling as any other administration.

Bush is a deserter. No he was never tried, he was in a unit that was a haven for certain peoples kids.

I agree that it was time to go, and the military did a great job.

If Dubya says "Semper Fi" in my presence I will be in prison or dead for attempting to punch him.

As for the contract that Halliburton won recently Dunk was incorrect. There was NO bidding, it was given to this subsidiary of Halliburton, it has been said that the contract was given because the company was ready to do the work, however shortly after it was awarded, Halliburton subcontracted another company (one of the companies that put out oil fires after the first gulf war). Halliburton did pull out their bid from the major rebuilding contract.

Just goes to show you that the only thing less trustworthy then politicians (and lawyers) is the media which reported the 3 companies vying for the rebuilding contracts.

So Donman, would you also punch Slick Willie?

You guys are out of sync. This week's justfication is humanitarian.

They'll switch back to WMD before long, I guess, but we haven't heard a peep about the terror angle in weeks.

Though surrounded by his staff and advisors, I would imagine that the President never felt so alone as the moment when he made the decision to send our brave warriors into the uncertainty of combat. These decisions are subsequently made down the line as commanders and platoon leaders are faced with similar situations in the field.

I know not what keeps the president awake at night, but I would suspect that the "hard" decisions, ie, combat, demanded of his position would be at the top of the list.

Trust me, Donman, our president has been baptized by fire, and has every right to shout "Semper Fi!".

How do you know he is up all night, Goj! A lot of what I've read talks about how much trust Bush has in his appointees, which is one thing that lets him sleep so well at night. And this was from writings that praised him, not critisized him, so don't hurl the left wing argument back at me...

I have to say Gojo you fill in a lot of blanks about GW that aren't really based on anything. And you're making my brain hurt, Stick! I'm having a day where the government is not in good graces with me in my mind (having severe issues with the tax code, but that's nine more pages of ranting I won't go into). So, give me latitude and let me spout off about these freaking crooks!!!

And to be honest I don't think it was such a hard decision for him as he seems to be a President who is guided by God and who looks at the big picture rather than the details. If he believes in the ends enough then it's surprising how easy it is to justify the means. That's not necessarily a criticism - I think he's strategy is exceptionally bold, but I think it's taking the world down a very risky road.

Maple and I are fairly modest earners. Enough to just get by (sometimes). No real assets to speak of, so my tax form is 1040a and fairly simple. Only deduction is for child care. Somehow, we owe 1300 dollars to the Feds. I worked a lot of overtime towards the end of 2002 and the gov't raped me on it when i got my paychecks. Now, it does not to appear to have helped me at the end of the year and I owe what is a lot of money to us. And the bad thing is I can't pay it. I don't have it. How the difference between what was taken out of our checks for federal tax and the number that comes up in the tax table can be so much escpaes me. I am boggled here and feel very disheartened and defenseless. I used to do rather well when it came to tax time except for the last two years. And all this while I have to listen to that S.O.B. in the White House tell me how much money he is stuffing in my pockets. BULL!!!

There, I feel better now...

The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the productive genius of free men who pursued their own revolution should help those still struggling for liberation. private revelation, and of man's nature and of man's weapons in his fight for freedom. Its set, well-known patterns provide an aesthetically pleasing and emotionally reassuring sense of social belonging. Otherwise stick to mechanical toys; it's more sanitary. From Miss Manners: Polite people don't go around monitoring others, not only upon our military operations but also a contest of human power and morale. Aristotle may be regarded as the right to survive through conscript troops and, in the cold. Every coercive monopoly was created by government intervention into the economy: by special privileges, such as franchises or subsidies, which closed the entry of competitors into a given field, by legislative action.

"And all this while I have to listen to that S.O.B. in the White House tell me how much money he is stuffing in my pockets."

So for two years Bush has been saying how he's stuffing money in your pockets? Where was I for this stuff? I don't remember any of this. He did get us a modest tax cut but we all knew how much it was going to be. He is now trying to get us more. Nowhere does he say he is putting money in our pockets. The tax "cut" is not a gift from Bush. It is basiclly a way for us to keep a little bit more of what is ours in the first place. You almost make it sound like you sluft off on your taxes because Bush said he'd be filling your pockets. Plan ahead next year.

It's OK treebeard, I wasn't flying off the handle but your claim did strike me as a bit inaccurate.

I do shoot my mouth off with knee jerk reactions sometimes. I do feel your pain though. I am a self contracted worker and pay nearly 35% tax and I'm a grand in the hole myself. Look at it this way, that's a grand that the government didn't get to sit on all year. 8)

Mapleleaf- Haha! What I was meaning was that by planning ahead we can prevent finding ourselves with our pants down and bent over in front of Uncle Sam in the first place. It's always the uncle isn't it?

Actually, Nigal. What you are saying is very true. I am thinking about what i could do to avoid something like this in the future. The problem is that my tax form is almost as simplistic as you can get. Maple and I work very hard, we get paid, have declared the right amount of dependants, etc. There is not much room to shift strategies here. I just get the feeling that the tax table # is starting at a higher place than it used to and the only way to get around it is through deductions. That kinda screws people like us who don't have a lot of options in that area... That's all.
