Matt – About Tarp Rat

“While I concede from the start that this is your board to run as you see fit, I think blocking the Rat was a little harsh. Sure he is rude, obnoxious and profane at times but that applies to a lot of people who you continue to allow posting.

In his spamming of this board, he alleges that you blocked him due to off-topic posts. If that is the policy here, you may as well shut down Trail Talk, it seems to have evolved into a social club where most of the members have some interest in backpacking but don’t wish to post about it all the time.

While I don’t always like some of his antics, I think he added a little flavor to this place. I don’t know how many warnings you may have given him – perhaps he violated his double secret probation.

Don’t feel you need to justify your decision, but please reconsider.

“I ain't for banning Tarpy - but he does trash threads deliberatley by posting junk in big characters, saying the same thing repeatedly... throwing in hostile filler in a way that crosses a line very few other people have crossed - and he does it far more often than anyone I've seen.

I agree with Tarpy a lot - and usually like it when he is around -- but sometimes I feel he is just taking a dump on all of us. I like it that there is a high level of craziness and looseness here - but Tarpy often takes it too far.

I hope that Tarpy can make an agreement with Matt to stick around - but also to show a bit more consideration.”

“Yes, Tarpy added a certain flavor to this site. It was an ever-changing flavor...sometimes it was OK and other times it was awful. Tarpy's immaturity really shows in his posts. He's crossed the line too many times to remember. He taunted Matt to ban him like a little kid...testing limits.

I'm sure this wasn't an easy decision for Matt to make. I'd kind of like to see Tarp back, but without the obnoxious posts. The bottom line - this is Matt's site and he can do whatever he pleases.”
