Recommendations?
Give me your opinion/recommendation on a new tent. I'd like to stay under 300 and under 6 lbs., so no Hillebergs or Biblers. Ky/Tn hiking, so 3 season tent is probably what I'm after. I'm 6'2", so it should be a reasonably long tent.

Good Suggestion Crazy Mike
Eureka's are great tents, and very inexpensive. I've had my Apex 2XT for about 3 years now. I've gotten a lot of use out of it and it's still going strong.

I second Artex's suggestion.

Otherwise, how much room do you want? Consider a Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight2 - lots of room for one, can fit two in a pinch. You should be able to find some for under 150.

If you you don't mind the weight-- the clip flashlight has to be the most proven tent ever.I bought another last year that a little old school teacher spent days seam sealing--$100.

Sorry about starting a backpacking thread folks!!
You guys mentioned some tents I had looked at, especially the SD tents.

Stikmon, 20 lbs is about half my body weight.

So where is the Sierra Designs Place highcountry. I had a SD Clipflashlight and I need a new one for cheap. If you can post the site or number it would be great.

I haven't had a chance to try one out, but the Mountain Hardwear Waypoint2 looks promising. Minimum weight is about 2lb 2 oz, packed weight is barely over 3 lbs and they can be had for under 200. It looks like a great tent and I've heard some positive "buzz."

Ooops... I was getting my Waypoint1 and Waypoint 2s confused. The Waypoint one is only 2 1/2 pounds packed weight (i.e. everything that comes in the package) and it lists at 195. The min weight for the 2 is about 3 lbs.

I just recently purchased the Sierra Designs Hyperlite. (I have it set up in a spare bedrooms) It is a 3 season, withg 42 sq feet of floor space and 5lbs 1 oz. It is free standing and after discarding the non-essentials, it will be closer to 4.5 lbs. I have not yet been out in it. But I will soon!

Check out the Europa II's from Six Moon Designs (http://www.sixmoondesigns.com/products/Europa2.asp). It's 2# 1 oz for a true 2 person tent with tons of ventilation.

At $250 it's under you budget too.
