Earth Day April 22nd

“With Earth Day just around the corner, I was wondering if anyone had plans to celebrate?

Treebeard and myself are taking our Cub Scout troop and are volunteering at the Gowanus Canal. This canal has a long history and is a very interesting area. But it has not been taken care of over the years. So our boys will be assigned an area that we will take care of. ie..clearing up the litter, planing plants etc..

So that is how we are celebrating Earth Day. What about you?

“As stated the other day, Maple and I will be taking our cub scout pack out for another community service venture on Saturday morning. It coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Gowanus Canal Community Development Center. The work involves some cleanup along the canal and planting to follow. It's only 2 and a half hours of work, so it shouldn't be too much for the little ones. But, hopefully it will give them a sense of pride to know that they contributed in this way and they can also see the progress of what they have put into the earth there.”

“i know some will take this the wrong way but i think we should have a different earth day. change the name and date ...it's a good cause and all. but the original earth day was created by a guy(i forgot his name on purpose)who murdered his girlfriend....just like scott ritter. i don't think many people know that little tidbit of trivia....

“Perhaps he means someone else associated with Earth Day in the U.S. From what I was able to glean from the net, McConnell proposed that Earth Day be the Vernal Equinox, not April 22. So maybe strat means some other Earth Day organizer, not John McConnell.”
