Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitar innovators I have ever heard and Robert Plant is one of rock's best 'screamers'!

True dat treebeard. I hear everyone saying Hendrix was the greatest, but for my money Page is on a whole other level. The only reason Hendrix was so revered was because everything sounds better when you're stoned. Luckily for him the whole audience was stoned when he played. LOL!

Oh Nigal, saying Hendrix is second fiddle to Page could get the pot boiling.

I'd have to go with Hendrix, but wouldn't fist fight you over picking Page. Of course Clapton would be on the short list as well.

Lol, Nig!
I did see Hendrix back in 1969 (and i was straight at the time). He was a master in his own right. I don't want to take that away from him. But, like you say, if you listen to the riffs invented on the fingertips of Mr. Jimmy Page, it has the word innovation written all over it. Some of the best stuff ever done, I agree....

trivia question
anyone remember what band Jimmy Page played for before Zepplin and who did he replace and who replaced Page when he left.

No Ped, they weren't stoned. Most of their gigs were playing to church groups. LOL! It was a joke.

If we are going to throw out other names, and this is just my opinion, My short list would have to be...

1) Page
2) Steve Vai
3) Joe Satriani
4) John Patrusi
5) Joe Walsh

http://www.top40-charts.com/news.php?nid=3480&string=Total" target="_blank"> one magaizine poll’s list

The first three are sort of the consensus. Some of the others they mention seem like odd choices.

I think Robert Johnson belongs just for the innovations and influence as well as the feeling. As Clapton got better, he felt more reticent about doing RJ stuff.

Those polls always piss me off. The have someone like George Harrison at a certain rank and then right in front of him is some jerk offs like Head and Monkey from Korn.

When it comes to favorite musicians it's all a matter of personal choice. For me tone is much more important than technique and if ya have BOTH I'm hooked. That's why I love Satriani so much. I think Eddie VanHallan is an Ahole and he's not the technician the world claims he is but he's got great tone.

Angus Young is toward the top of my list as well.

There is a guy playing for a local band here in Memphis that has as much potential as anyone I have seen in a long time. He is exceptional.

No mention of;
Richi Blackmore
Frank Marino
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Ingwe(?) Malmstien
Robin Trower

Most of the real "students" of guitar that I know are not big Page fans. Hendrix, however, was the real deal - way ahead of his time.

and if Angus would learn more than those three chords, he might just be incredible!

David Gilmour is up there as well, far above Slash, contrary to that list pedxing linked.

Just a day or two ago, I heard Robin Trower coming out of the TV set in some commercial... had to do a triple-take!

I saw him in a club about twelve years ago (100-150 people). It was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

jimi hendrix is the greatest guitar player to have ever lived. sure there are those who probably know their scales and theory etc more than him, but jimi was an inovator, the best there ever was, so much so that people have and still do imitate and emulate his playing and that is why he is always #1 on every top 100 guitarist list.

Page definitly wrote tons licks that have stood the test of time and with Plant forged music that still to this day appeals to the masses. but hendrix compared to page is aples and oranges

but i still maintain that led zeppelin was, is and always will be the greatest 'rock and roll band'

Since I've Been Loving You
Working from seven to eleven every night,
It really makes life a drag, I don't think that's right.
I've really, really been the best of fools, I did what I could.
'Cause I love you, baby, How I love you, darling, How I love you, baby,
How I love you, girl, little girl.
But baby, Since I've Been Loving You. I'm about to lose my worried mind, oh, yeah.

tramples underfoot
a song about cars, imagine that???

Greasy slicked down body, groovy leather trim
I like the way you hold the road, mama, it ain't no sin

Talkin' 'bout love

Trouble-free transmission, helps your oil's flow
Mama, let me pump your gas, mama, let me do it all

Talkin' 'bout love

Dig that heavy metal underneath your hood
Baby, I could work all night, believe I've got the perfect tools

Talkin' 'bout love

A model built for comfort, really built with style
Specialist tradition, mama, let me feast my eyes

Talkin' 'bout love

Factory air-conditioned, heat begins to rise
Guaranteed to run for hours, mama it's a perfect size

Talkin' 'bout love

Groovin' on the freeway, gauge is on the red
Gun down on my gasoline, I believe I'm gonna crack a head.

Talkin' 'bout love
I can't stop talkin' about...

Come to me for service every hundred miles
Baby, let me check your points, fix your overdrive

Talkin' 'bout love

Fully automatic, comes in any size
Makes me wonder what I did, before we synchronized

Talkin' 'bout love

Feather-light suspension, coils just couldn't hold
I'm so glad I took a look inside your showroom doors

Talkin' 'bout love

Oh, I can't stop talkin' about love.

Anyone else heard any of the brand spankin' new Yardbirds album? There's guest guitarists including Page, and Slask, I think Clapton too. I heard the song with Slash last week and it was freakin' awesome! Now if I could just remember the name of the album and song....
