Its been two months since I asked for my raise, and they still can't make a decision. They're trying to compare my position to others in the company, based on my job description and years of experience. Problem is there isn't anyone else here with my job description, and I have more years of experience than a lot of others here! Apparently they think my salary is in line, but my bonuses are way off. Grrrrrr......

Is there a professional society that covers the work you do? If so, they may have some sort of guide or chart that will give them an idea of what people in your job and your experience should be making.

Seriously, just tell 'em you have a doctor's appt. Any info beyond that is none of their business.

nervous about lying to your supervisor, or aobut the interview?

cause lying to her ain't nothing. i'm sure she tells you a billion lies a day, because that's a manager's job. trust me, i know, because I am one. :)

as far as the job interview, you've already got a job, so really you have the leg up. you can go in there and see if this is the right job for you. think of it that way. its not all about them asking you questions. prepare yourself to ask them some questions too.

95% of the 'managers' where I work are lying snakes that can't manage anything.
I believe one of the requirements to be a manager is an enjoyment of lying.
I enjoy being pure technical so much. Unfortunately, I'm as far up as I can go and still be 'pure'.

Stove, if you ever meet me, you'll see very quickly that I suck at lying. I tend to use more truth in my management style. In fact, sometimes I tell too much, and that gets me into trouble!!

ah, some people just can't do it, SG.

It tough to look a person in the eye and feed them a line. I always think there is the better way. Too much BS is never goot fer the rep amoung peers as well.

Do you have a plan in case these guys don't shape up?

A managers job is lying?

WRONG, completely #&%!$ing wrong and more than just a little offensive.

Sorry y'all have met so many pathetic managers but that isn't how it is done.

hmmm, i've never thought about how much i lie at work before, Smiley...interesting! i manage all the people who work outside our office, but i'm not the one who can hire or fire them. also, two people have sued us in the past for firing them, so i have to lie a lot to people who suck at what they do for us. like, someone will ask if i have any work for them to do, and i'll have to say not at the moment, when what i really mean is not for their sucky ass! LOL! it's also pretty easy for me to lie over email, since i never see any of them in person. my mommy works for us, though, and i don't think i've lied to her yet. so at least maybe i'm not going to hell!

yea i went to the interview. it went very well.
my only problem is, it's with a Lumber Company.
Im a purchasing agent and every time I would place an order, it would mean killing a tree. so i really have mixed feelings about it.
plus is, it's a 15 min ride instead of the 1hr and 45 min ride now.

so we will wait and see.

maple, look at it this way. Construction is going to happen. When trees are used for building materials it's renewable. When iron ore is mined from the ground for steel, it's not renewable. I'm all for using wood when the wood is a farmed product. It's the cutting of old growth trees that I have a problem with. Here in the SE there are pine forest that are farms. It works pretty good. There are abuses, but it can work.

By ordering lumber, you aren't killing trees. ;-)
