So do you feel bad everytime you buy some other product made of wood or wood by-products? Like toilet paper for instance?

It's not like there's some logger sitting around waiting for the call, "Mapleleaf said kill a tree, her company needs some lumber, and another four-pack of Charmin!"

The logging is happening anyway.

I just hold it in long enough that TP is no longer necessary.

mapleleaf - 1 hr. 45 mins one way? That length for a round trip would be pushing it, but one way? Ouch.

There are tons of people who live in the greater NYC area that commute that length of time and longer each way for work. I used to commute 45 miles each way when I lived there and it took me a minimum of 1.5 hours each way. To boot, I was coming in early and leaving late to beat some of the traffic. It's a nightmare.

I'm about 20 minutes away from work now. It's the perfect amount of time to unwind from work before getting home.

ok make that 1 1/2 hr commute one way.

sorry

You'll probably do more for the environment by cutting your commute time that much than "damage" by being involed in the lumber biz. By and large the lumber biz has been tamed with tree farms (as mentioned above). You'll save 1 pound of carbon dioxide put in the air, per mile you don't drive. I am guessing about 150 pounds of CO2 per day.

Take the job.

Ok, no net gain or loss for the air. I can see how you can handle that long commute if you are taking the subway - a ton less stress. I'll take 1 1/2 hours on the subway over 45 minutes driving any day.

Well after reaching maximum discord in the lack of resources available to my division, I resigned.

Drastic action, but the stress of trying to take the division to a new level with no help wasn't worth it.

Negotiated a severance package and now deciding what to do. Quitting isn't normally in my vocabulary, but this time I didn't hesitate.

Are you saying they paid you for quitting? Sweet!

BTW, that's the same primary reason for me leaving my last job. I already had another job in hand though. Your move seems more ballsy. Good luck.

I quit, the pains quit.
mapleleaf - If that is true, I suggest you quit. I had that experience once. Pains were killing me (very severe), especially on the way to work. As soon as I submitted my resignation, they quit. Never experienced them again.

I have been working on a start up company with my father in law oriented toward HR training and reporting of claims.

I think in a year I will be working in it full time, so that softened my decision somewhat.

Somehow, I am just not too worried about the future,,,,what is to be will be, what is not to be, just might happen.
