The Mountains or The Desert?View Messages“If given the choice, which would you prefer to live in, The Mountains or The Desert” 10:57:00 AM 4/21/03 “Easy choice for me, the mountains. Too used to green, personally.” 10:57:43 AM 4/21/03 “Mountains all the way... never getting sand out of places it just shouldn't be would send me crazy” 10:58:13 AM 4/21/03 “Desert.” 10:58:41 AM 4/21/03 “Mountains. I'd miss the changing seasons too much. Can I have a summer home in the desert?!?” 10:59:51 AM 4/21/03 “But, at least in the Big Bend, you can have both.” 11:00:24 AM 4/21/03 “the dessert! LOL. like James and the Giant Peach, hee hee hee!! i can never remember which spelling is which. anyway, mountains, baby. i really have little desire to ever go to the desert.” 11:01:37 AM 4/21/03 “Desert... IF... it is filled with red rocks and red sand, with maybe a tree-filled oasis and many old cliff dwellings nearby.” 11:37:46 AM 4/21/03 “I did make the choice, and I live in the mountains...but only about a four hour drive from the desert, Best of both, hehehehe” 11:57:54 AM 4/21/03 “I want to live in the dessert! But only if its free...” 12:15:00 PM 4/21/03 “I would live in the mountains and travel to the desert with red rock of course.” 12:16:01 PM 4/21/03 “Almost heaven, West Virginia” 12:40:18 PM 4/21/03 “I live in the desert, but most of my backpacking trips are to the mountains.” 2:17:27 PM 4/21/03 “ok lets try this then Arizona or Catslikks NY” 2:49:16 PM 4/21/03 “darn fingers!!” 2:49:30 PM 4/21/03 “Arizona or Catskills NY” 2:49:53 PM 4/21/03 “Cat lickys? Don't want to live there.” 2:51:29 PM 4/21/03 “What about he ocean? Mountains would be my first choice, but the desert and ocean are great for variety and have their own beauty. I live an hour from the ocean, desert, and 10,000 ft. mountains. Why not have all three?” 3:07:19 PM 4/21/03 “Hey Phil, need a roommate?” 3:08:42 PM 4/21/03 “LOL!! i heart the ocean...” 3:10:00 PM 4/21/03 “I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name….” 3:27:44 PM 4/21/03 “Arizona or N.Y. ??? OK I see Arizona for the desert but where are the mountains???? A few little rolly hills maybe but certainly no mountains 4:16:31 PM 4/21/03 “It may not be much to Southwest standards, but it's all I have for now. (no knocking NY :))” 4:20:29 PM 4/21/03 “BWD: Just came from Flag and there were mountains.” 4:23:21 PM 4/21/03 “Hey, just kiddin.... You can come visit my mountains anytime... http://community.webshots.com/photo/55620221/55623642CuslYS” 4:24:11 PM 4/21/03 “BWD, Oh man!!! SWEET!! not sure where that is, in CA? we are thinking of when we do our AZ trip in Oct, making a side trip to CA. I want to go to Boja(sp)” 4:26:48 PM 4/21/03 “so how far would these kind on mountains be from Phoenix area?” 4:30:05 PM 4/21/03 “Phoenix is surrounded by mountains.” 4:31:39 PM 4/21/03 “Hey Phil I live only a couple hours from ocean, mountains and deserts too :) Come to think of it...I think this is the perfect palce to be :)” 4:56:52 PM 4/21/03 “yes, Phil - we have it all, don't we here in Southern Cali” 4:57:57 PM 4/21/03 “but if I had to pick one it would be the mountains, and make them tall mountains not little green hills” 4:59:00 PM 4/21/03 “Mapleleaf...It's spelled BAJA :D” 4:59:38 PM 4/21/03 “Mountains. But I really love living near the sea, especially if it's made of freshwater.” 5:07:38 PM 4/21/03 “Thoes mountains pictures above are about ten miles east of Salt Lake City. About fifteen miles from my house.” 7:23:49 PM 4/21/03 Maple... “you always seem so pose questions that create limits and confines...choose this, choose that...the answer is simple to most of your riddles, choose none and choose all, not one thing over another...favorite song, who's shoes to wear, path to follow, favorite song, band, wine...favorite National park, camp site... all these questions are limiting and close the person to the truth of the universe...that all things are created equal...that each thing in the world are works of art and to choose one over the other, somehow diminishes the other. That is inherently wrong cause all things must be treasured, experienced and lived. Only then would the word of God be fully realized... For myself, I choose to live everywhere, even if its only for a weekend or a week, or 24 days out of a month...I travel, and where ever I sleep, thats where I live, whatever I see, I keep in my heart, mind, soul...that is the essence of what "WE" do... sorry, thats me. Luv ya...8-)” 8:26:30 PM 4/21/03 “You know, Stikmon, that's beautiful, but... What could be better than spilling your soul into one very special place? You could hike that place every day and breathe in the seasons. You'd hike the same trails again and again and realize the minute changes. You would note every little deer path and come to recognize the fellow hikers who populate those same pathways. The year would be marked by the arrival and departure of the birds and snow and bugs rather than the turn of a calendar page. When people came to visit, only you could show them the true beauty present, because you soaked yourself fully in that place. Depth not Breadth. Choose, but choose wisely.” 9:30:02 PM 4/21/03 “I don't know if I can cope with all this heavy stuff! Maple - What's the appeal of Baja? If you decide to visit there, skip the border towns and go way down south to Cabo or something. If you like fishing and/or eating seafood, you could have a good time.” 9:51:52 PM 4/21/03 “AZ has 12,000 ft peaks-outside of flagstaff.Id take AZ over NY.And LA is fine by me.Ocean, mountainous background and just 4hrs from Sierras and 8hrs from Utah badland countreeeee.” 10:00:31 PM 4/21/03 “I love the mountains. I love alpine lakes and passes and to being up high. I like being near water and the cool air (I'm a snow nymph!). I don't care for the desert only because I don't like hiking in sand, and I like to be around water. But after Death Valley, I found I liked the flowers, rock formations, climbing (its not all flat), and desert colors. The marble narrows in DV was really cool. I admit, the few times I hiked the desert, I had a good time. Could be the people I'm with?? Before we bought the townhouse in Torrance, we lived a few blocks from the ocean. We had a ocean "peek" from our balcony, but it was a small condo with no garage. Now we're about 10 minutes away from the beach. The San Gabriel Mtns are about an hour away, San Bernardino Mtns and San Jacintos about 1.5 hrs, Sierra Nevada is 4-5 hrs. Desert is 1.5 - 4 hrs away. I never go to the beach, I rarely go to the desert or local mtns, but always go to the Sierra. I choose the Sierra because its my getaway. I can go to the same place and see different things. Last weekend, McGee Creek was covered with snow. Rolling hills instead of boulders and steps. McGee creek in July is full of wildflowers and snow capped peaks. McGee Creek in the fall is blankets of yellow, orange, red, green and brown trees. In the winter, the trails are covered with snow, and everything is white. I can't wait for the next snowshoe/backpack. Maple, if you come to CA in Oct, let me know and I'll show you some Fall colors in the Sierra. The only weekend I have booked is around the 19th (I think).” 10:01:13 PM 4/21/03 no right... “nor wrong...do what makes the heart sing. But...to say, that one likes this over that, without ever seeing what "that" or really experience what "that" could offer, limits ones ability to choose, so I choose not to choose...just to keep on experiencing and moving forward...one of these days, I'm gonna be stopped from moving forward, but before that happens, I'm gonna move forward as far as I can. On my profile, if its still there, one of my philosophies is "don't get old, just go splat and die"...thats what I'm gonna do...one of these days, I'm gonna die doing what I love doing, not over some stupid report or customer data tables...splat and die...and the only thing I want people to remember me by is that I did things and had fun doing them...and that he went splat, and died.” 10:44:41 PM 4/21/03 “Ive been to the desert and while it did have its beauty I was really bothered by the lack of trees...it was almost unnerving.” 10:48:54 PM 4/21/03 “I live in the mountains, Flagstaff. I hike in the desert, Grand Canyon.” 11:24:11 PM 4/21/03 “I'll go with mountains and inverted mountains - the desert SW.” 11:41:47 PM 4/21/03 “desert for me please.....I have to see the sky” 12:05:00 AM 4/22/03 “Snow Nymph - Very eloquent! I enjoyed it.” 12:07:37 AM 4/22/03 “Mountains for me!” 12:25:01 AM 4/22/03 “What is the tally? I would be surprised that 1 in 20 would prefer the desert.” 6:57:22 AM 4/22/03 “Definitely the mountains. That is exactly why I'm living in New Hampshire. There are added bonuses... no state income tax and no sales tax. I am amazed at how beautiful the drive to and from work really is. I hope I never take this for granted.” 7:30:59 AM 4/22/03 “If I had to really choose I would choose the desert. I have it in my blood since the first time I visited one. The life in a desert just amazes me. When the sun sets there is a special illumination of the rocks which lends magic to the whole expirience of it all. When the cactus and wildflowers bloom it is all the more enchanting becuase unlike the mountains they are not blooming in massive amounts. When you come apon a cactus or a yucca in bloom you feel lucky. And when it rains there is a wonderful feeling of renewal and rebirth, something to be truely grateful for.” 9:02:48 AM 4/22/03 “well I guess I will find out for myself this Oct as if I like the Desert or the Mountains. But it sounds like in AZ you can have the best of both worlds! thanks for all the GREAT input, it has helped!” 3:07:55 PM 4/22/03
