especially when my Super Feet foot beds get soaked - I have heard that this is common with Super Feet.

I suppose this thread requires....
...the old saying:

folks - the question is whether anyone has also noticed a strong aroma (GRIN) when their Super Feet brand footbeds get soaked?

HOI - I have tossed my NB 804s and superfeet into the washer after trips. A couple of washings haven't hurt them.

Hog, I have had my superfeet soaked quite a few times and i can't say the dogs smell any worse than they do normally.

HOI, I have taken lite linen bags (I think they were the old coin bags) filled them with Baking Soda and put them in my boots when I had to spend a couple weeks in Panama serving Uncle Sam.

It sure seemed to keep the smell down to a reasonable level and it kept them dryer.

We would sweat so much, the contents of our wallet would get soggy if we kept in on our person.

More accurately, we put them in the boots overnight.

Thanks for the info folks - maybe its more than just the 805's + Superfeet - maybe its also hiking in wet wool socks for a fair length of time after the shoes get soaked. Anyways the two times I noticed this was the Sipsey last autumn after wading through Borden Creek and the recent Lost Cove ECT wading through that river above the falls. The shoes stink so bad that I have to put them in another room after I take them off and yet I can still smell them. A shoe dryer seems to help and I'll try chili's idea about the bags of baking soda.

Not my feet, but the trail runners I wore a week ago.

They dried from all the rain we hiked in, however they are giving off a scent of bad BO combined with a light pine. I cannot bring them in the house because the funk is so bad.

Any recommendations on how to ace the funk?

Pour your favorite beer in the shoe then drink up, guaranteed to cure what the problem is. Airborne Ranger/ Death From Above. Did this in Germany and it works........

sounds like the cure is to completely burn out you sinus cavity, and kill all taste buds, so you can't smell em any more. LOL!

Do you think I can throw them in the washing machine?
Wounded Knee

WK< wash em in the machine, remove the laces first and insoles (but wash them). Let air dry, they will abuse your machine and the higher temps can weaken the glue. I do this all the time. Or scrub by hand with "simple green" cleaner and a stiff brush.

I would modify The Fridges' advice, dont drink from the shoe, but most definitely drink before undertaking such a horrific task. Better you then me ya stinky bassturd.

My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, And I Don't Love Jesus
(From the album "HAVANA DAYDREAMIN'")

By: Jimmy Buffett
1975

Chorus:
My head hurts, my feet stink, and I don't love Jesus (oh my lordy it's that...)
It's that kind of mornin'
Really was that kind of night
Tryin' to tell myself that my condition is improvin'
And if I don't die by Thursday I'll be roarin' Friday night

Went down to the snake pit
To drink a little beer
Listen to the jukebox
Merle was comin' in clear

All of a sudden I wad'n alone
Pickin' country music with ol' Joe Bones
Duval Street was rockin'
My eyes they starting poppin'

Because there she sat at the corner of the bar
As I broke another string on my ol' guitar
Someone call a cab
Lady won'tcha pay my tab

Chorus:
And now my head hurts, my feet stink, and I don't love Jesus
(oh my lordy it's that...)
It's that kinda mornin'
Really was that kinda night
Tryin' to tell myself that my condition is improvin'
And if I don't die by Thursday I'll be roarin' Friday night

Gotta get a little orange juice
And a Darvon for my head
I can't spend all day
Baby layin' in the bed

I'm goin' down to Fausto's get some chocolate milk
Can't spend my life in yer sheets of silk
I've got to find my way
Crawl out and greet the day

Chorus:
But now my head hurts, my feet stink, and I don't love Jesus
(oh my lordy it's that...)
It's that kinda mornin'
Really was that kinda night
Tryin' to tell myself that my condition is improvin'
And if I don't die by Thursday I'll be roarin' Friday night

Let me tell ya, I be roarin' Friday night
I mean I'll be
Roarin'
Friday
Night

Yes, WK....LOL,my trail runners were soaked to the bone! I removed the insoles and put them on top of the clothes dryer for a couple of days. Now they're fine. Not really good advice, but that's what I did, and it worked. Good luck to ya!
