hey y'all (just keeping the theme going), looks like i'll be in the Flathead Lake area for 2 weeks this summer. i'd love to do a 2-night loop somewhere within 2 hours or so of Polson. can anybody recommend a trail, a forest, a destination? i like to do 10 or so miles a day, so 30 miles sounds like a good approximation.

suggestions? anybody up there wanna join me? if it's a bit far for you, you're welcome to stay over at our cabin before or after.

THAT SOUNDS AMAZING. If I was anywhere remotely close I'd be there. Where is the cabin? Is it your vacation home or regular home?

the cabin is actually right on Flathead. don't get the wrong idea, we're not Montana Glitz. my grandpa built it back in the early 60's. it's kind of a shared family place now.

If you are in Polson just look east - the Mission Mountains are beckoning. Absolutely gorgeous area and very close! Mostly National Forest land, but also Flathead Reservation - they require a permit and charge a fee. I recall a Scout trip many years ago spending the night at Lake of the Clouds - half iced-over and mountain goats strolling between our bags in the mornings (don't tell, but I think it is on tribal land and we had no permits) I'd have to go home and check maps, but many hikes should fit your bill.

Beautiful place. My sister used to live on Lolo Creek not far from Missoula. It was pretty awesome.
