Alright, somepeople on the board are looking to do this hike in 1 day anyone interested in a three day hike. The trail is located in the Catskills and is a tough hike. 26 miles 18k vertical feet, 7 summits. I was thinking sometime in late May or early June. Anyone interested?

I have some interest here. I'm sure that we might be able to coax in the Pennsy hiker too. i'll have to give him a call. I've been wanting to get up there. See if you can come up with date.

Devil's Path is awesome! I have only done sections...it would be cool to do the whole thing.

LOL Pete...gee, do ya think Pennsy will go?!! (Dare and I were just commenting on the fact that Pennsy's name appears on almost every trip posted on the trips page)

Alright!
Gemini, it is a cruise from South Carolina! Maybe worth a cheap plane ticket into Newark.

How about May 9-11 it would be best for this hike to be three full days averaging about 9 miles a day. This would allow plenty of time to check everything out and smell the roses.

Everyone is Welcome! Let me know about the dates. I do not want to get too late in May because of the Black Flies.
If we get a couple people to commit I will post it on the Trips board.

Quote from the trail guide, "This is the heart of the Devils Territory in the Catskills and has some extremely steep climbing. It is not a place in which to rush, for you may have a devil of a time."

Gemini, it would be great if you could show up for this. I am hoping that a few more people sign on because we need at least 2 cars since it is a one-way trip. I was studing the guide book today and it looks like we would cover about 8 miles a day with the chance to do some side trips, like a 3-mile loop to the top of Hunter Mtn.

Maple that's ok, I would rather not compete against a hike in our area so that more people can come. I really don't want to push it back into June though, too many bugs. Might be too late at the end of May also.

I’ve been thinking about doing this hike for a while, but not in one day!!!
I’d go on the extended version, but I am currently on TT injured reserve.
The last couple of weekends I had been doing a lot of day hiking and at the end of one hike my leg by the side of my knee was quite sore, but a day or two later the pain was gone. Last Sunday morning I headed out on the Thunder Swamp Trail and after a couple miles I was in agony the whole area around my knee was swollen, so I stopped along Bushkill Creek poured cold water on it, took some Advil and just rested. After about an hour I wrapped it in an ace bandage and with my trekking poles hobbled back to my car. After I got home I could barley walk on it. The swelling has gone down, but it still hurts a little, so I’m just going to take it easy for a few weeks and give it time to heal.

I'm up for the trip, but not as a one-dayer. Me thinks Artex and Pennsy (a.k.a. super-mileage freakazoids) were going to do this hike as a bust-yer-ars hike when Artex flies North for the summer?

must hike - sorry to hear companero! Did you go see a doctor about that knee? Don't be self-centered, you have the rest of your compadres to think about!

Capt Bobo, yes this is the same trail. Three days is much more reasonable for this trail. Those guys are nuts.

Sorry to hear about your knee must hike. This is definatley not a trail to test out your knee. Is it the same pain you were having on the OLP?

LtHiker it’s not the same I just had some cramps on the OLP. This feels like the ligaments on the side of my knee it’s not the knee itself. I must have twisted it or something while hiking on these Rocksylvania trails. I hate it I’ve never had any type of problems like this before.

Capt Bobo do I have to go see a doctor? I hate going to the doctor. I really really really hate going to the doctor.

Yes, must hike... if you are still in pain after a week of rest and meds, maybe you should go see the butcher... er, doctor.

Must Hike, if you think that the PA rocks are bad then you ain't seen nothing yet. Catskills rocks are where the Pa rocks learn to be rocks. It is the first place that I actually felt more like I was mountain climbing than hiking.

The trip will be on the trips board tommorow. I expect to see lots of attendees. Well we at least need two so that we have enough cars.

Ice Tea, if you went on Friday with the rest of us you could leave your car at the Devils tombstone Campground and catch a ride to the trailhead. Then hike with us on an overnight. There are no loops on this trail, that would take you near your car.
