Same concerns that would make us be weary of allowing a President, or other high ranking persons son to fight at the front (See John McCain, both as the captured son of an Admiral, and possibly a President with a son fighting at the front).

“After thinking about it I have to agree. Normally I'm for reporting whatever truth there is that's verifiable. But in this case it serves no journalistic purpose to report that he's there, while he's there. All it does is make him, and therefore those who serve with him, bigger targets.

I suspect they'll pull him out now.

“The issue is he's a higher value target because his Grandmother is CINC of the armed forces, and because of his psychological value to the people of that country. Now we'd like to say that any soldier is worth as much as any other, but we know that in an overall sense, when we're talking about the psychology of a people rather than individuals, that's not true.

If he's captured while I'm sure no special accomodation would be made, you can't really know what psychological effect it would have on the Queen or the people, and there's always the possibility that whatever action is taken, whether to make an accomodation to get him back, or not to, could have large strategic implications. That's why any government is wary about sending sons or daughters of powerful people to the front.

It's analagous to what happened with McCain when the North Vietnamese tried to use him as a bargaining chip. We didn't end up making an accomodation to get him out, but who knows what else they could have used him for. His father approved the bombing targets, what if they had said well, we're keeping your son at this power station? It could have affected his father's decision on whether or not to approve that as a target. The Taliban could use Harry in the same way.
