New to the Site.....Need Suggestions

In two weeks I will be relocated to the DC area. I love museums & Stuff, but I also need some suggestions on OUTDOORS areas to visit (semi-nearby if possible). I can only spend so many days in a row indoors.

Lyra, I was introduced to the site by Nomad1. We are pretty close ;-)I am moving to the MD side of town..Rockville, specifically. Thanks for the name compliment..I love a little room for creativity.

really close to DC, there's the Crescent Trail (which is none too rugged, but good for jogging/walking/biking...at least there are lots of trees). and Great Falls has the same sort of thing.

as for hiking, the Appalachian Trail is really close, in Maryland! my favorite part is Annapolis Rocks (nowhere near Annapolis). let me get some links for ya...”

“ Capital Crescent Trail ...this is the sort of thing that's good for weekday afternoons, when you don't have time to go farther away.

Great Falls ...this place has both a MD and a VA side...the VA side has good hiking, but is ridiculously crowded. there's a good biking trail on the MD side.

Annapolis Rocks ...it takes about an hour to get here from Rockville, maybe less. there's climbing at the rocks (which i don't do!), and it's part of the Appalachian Trail.”

Oh what the heck. I heard this one second hand, but it's a good one.

Here at the Space and Rocket museum, we used have a couple of the space monkeys, a pair of Rhesus monkeys whose names escape me right now. Anyway, the story goes that one day, the male tried to get jiggy with the female when she wasn't in the mood, so in order to get him to back off, she crapped all over him.
