nguy....where in wva did you buy a house? It's a great place. It has a bad rep with folks where I live ( all that usual bigoted crap about hillbillies, etc.) but they really don't know what they are talking about and that's fine. Maybe they'll stay away and WVa will stay almost heaven. Best wishes!

Haha, Nitro and Poca both suck, so does Dunbar. Wonderful Big Chimney and Glady for me!

That sounds great. I love that area and maybe someday I'll get back. I live around Baltimore and am raising 3 teenagers still. But when they are all out to college I plan on looking for a teaching job in some town up there or somewhere else similar. I went to school at WVU and worked as a forester in WVA for a while. Yeah, places like Nitro (always loved that name)are the pits, but then you should see some of the places here.

The piece that I saw last October, around Athens, WV, is very beautiful. Love that rolling hill country.

West Virginia IS the best!

All jokes about hillbillies aside, its one of those places like northern New England where those who have remained have a tendancy toward self-sufficiency.

And like northern New England, the terrain and weather helps to keep the *riff-raff away.

*No offence intended to any of the "riff-raff" persuasion!)

I like it. Too bad it's so far away from Michigan.

Just got back from three wild, wonderful days. Pass right through Keyser and along New Creek on the way there and back. It was great.

What a great day it was in the Mid-Atlantic yesterday. Actually got to go out. As I was driving along Skyline drive, on the way to the trailhead, it was a stunning day and I thought it would be good to try some culture, so I put some classical radio on. While this worked well when driving just on the eastern side of the ridge, looking out toward DC, with the orchestral strains caming through loud and clear - as the road switched to the western side of the ridge, looking out toward west Virginia, a country station would kick in. At one point I swear I could just about make out a banjo ;o) Stunning country though, spring had just kissed the branches at the higher elevations.

i'm good! i haven't been on Skyline Drive in forever and a year. was it fun, besides the music and crowds? ;-)

i spent all day yesterday outside, but it was mainly hanging out in one place...i do have some sunburn to show for it, though. i went to watch Tarpy ride his motorcycle on the track, and his poor bike got smashed all to pieces! bummer. he didn't get hurt, though!

poor tarpy...lol... yeah it was good out there, the day couldn't have been much better really. Next time I go I think I'll just try and find a quieter route.
