All kinds of good climbing programming today on the National Geopraphic channel from 1pm unitl 10pm.

Pop some popcorn, get some ice cream and settle down for a long day of envy and wanderlust.

I gotta brag a tad here......
My climbing partner and best friend, Amy Barwick, has been offered a spot on a teams climbing K2 , Kangenjunga and Everest. She is considering both K2 and Everest.

The guys on the Ama Dablam climb said she was one of the most experienced and balanced (all around) climbers they had seen in years. She also impressed everyone by not using Dex or Diamox and then asking everyone..."if your not gonna eat that can I have it", even over 20,000'/22,000'.

This is a private album, but I'll leave it open for awhile, for those that want to have a peek.

OK, You can be jealous of Amy...I wasn't on the Ama Dablam climb. We trained and climbed together for almost 13/14 years, then she reached the point where she needed to go to that next level and I couldn't commit to it, plus I was getting too beat up.

I am proud as hell of her though.

Either way, it looks like I'll do a whole lot of armchair mountaineering and have to "setttle" for the 14ers here and there. Man, I'm too young to be saying "I wish I could re-do parts of my younger days"

The average for most mountaineers is probably around 42/45+.

Don't discount (I'm sure your not) those 14ers...they can kick your ass.

Climb on!

mtnsteve, great Ama Dablam pictures! Seeing those action shots above the clouds gives me goosebumps! I've always come back from high altitude trips wishing I had taken more "action shots", but when you're hanging from a rope on a climb with a high "sphincter factor", you just don't have the time (or the energy) to pull the camera out. My very best wishes to you and your friend Amy, I hope Amy makes it to the top! I see in one of your pictures they had the Gamow Bag pumped up, I hope it was just being tested and nobody was sick in the bag.

Armchair mountaineers rejoice! You don't have to go to the Karakoram to get a taste of altitude. Beyond the 14ers, there is always Alaska. And Peru and Bolivia also have alot to offer in the 20,000-plus altitiude range.

Wow! Thanks
mtnsteve Those pics are just too awesome to comprehend. They were great! How lucky you are. Thank you for inviting us into a private album. I liked the pictures of the local people. What was the highest altitude that a picture was taken.

This is just a guess, but 22396 feet?

Tango and bitpusher...I've seen the elevation for Ama Dablam listed at 22,494' and 22,486'...looks like over 22,400' would probably cover it pretty well.

Capn...The picture of the chamber was taken during a training session, letting the folks take turns inside and getting use to using it.

Stick...Any mountain's a good mountain..keep picking off the 14er's.
