Solo TentsView MessagesYou've Ben A Great Audience “Thank you! Thank you very much! Please....no more applause!” 7:35:45 AM 6/01/03 “I have the Solitaire. I've only used it on one trip but I was quite pleased. I'm 5'10" and had plenty of room to spare. No, you can't sit up in it. But, I was comfy when lying on my stomach, on my elbows, head in hands, watching a river flow. It's roomier for moving around than it looks.” 8:00:16 AM 6/01/03 “aaah! Need more coffee and less TT. Buddur, you want applause for that lemon. It died on the stage about 100 years ago. You just made me throw up my Bavarian Cream Donut! MoonDoggie - I use the Eureka Zephfyr. But I found it best to use a 8 ft. x 10 ft. Coated Nylon Tarp w/Adjustable Tarp Ties over the tent. But most of the last month I just used the tarp. But, if too many bugs are around, I'll use the tent and tarp combination. Riverwind - Snakes are seldon a problem. However, I carry a snake bite kit.” 8:05:12 AM 6/01/03 8:08:59 AM 6/01/03 “I also use a tarp on occasion. With my current gear I can use any of the following: Zoid 1 Alone Tarp Alone Tarp with Zoid 1 inner tent slung underneath (no Zoid poles).” 9:23:01 AM 6/01/03 Solo Tents “Recently bought a lot in Va. While getting ready to burn some meat, my wife and I were joined by a black snake, at least 6 foot long. He sunned for a while and then disappeared. I say he because he had no hips. Seldom may not be a problem for you but for me that is to often.” 6:13:54 PM 6/01/03 ...he had no hips. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL “I just setup my BatRay in the yard for the umteenth time...but still haven't brought it on any trips yet. Sigh!” 7:49:28 PM 6/01/03 “MoonDoggie, I have the Solitaire and have used it on a couple trips -- I agree with Tarabull that it is perfectly comfy when lying down whichever way you prefer. Easy to set up, not quite as easy to enter, and true, no sitting up inside, but by the time I crawl in, I've usually been pretty tired. The mesh top is not going to hold in any heat, as I found out on the Curdistan trip last spring when temps dipped subfreezing, but that perversely proves it a great summer tent. And on a clear night, just throw the fly back, put your hands behind your head and behold the heavens. It packs so very small that I could fit it, a summer-weight bag and my 3/4 Thermarest Ultralite all together in the sleeping bag compartment of my pack. There's a pic of it set up in the Badlands on my page at Phil's Photo Page.” 10:35:15 PM 6/01/03 “Yeah, I've done the tarp deal myself plenty of times. But still prefer a tent on those rare nights. Big Coop, I’ll be e-mailing ya tonight to talk over the tent you’re looking to sell. $30+ shipping seams like a pretty fair price.” 4:05:15 AM 6/02/03 re: snakes “slim - most of those snake bite kits do more harm then good wind - whats wrong with a 6 foot black snake? they arent poisonous and they eat mice... a win-win I say. For solo I go with a hennessy hammock, but then yall know that already :}” 4:45:16 AM 6/02/03 tent talk “dirty old man: I agree on the snake logic, afraid he was going to eat my burger.” 6:16:40 AM 6/02/03 “I really like my LL Bean Microlite. Has anyone tried the new REI Roadster or Coupe tents?” 5:44:53 AM 6/03/03 “Moondoggie - you've got mail.” 6:17:24 AM 6/03/03
