The purpose of science is to determine provable facts which is what should be taught in public schools. The purpose of religeon is to give meaning to our lives, how god created the world is not important. It is not the place of science to say that god did not create the world since it cannot be proven or disproved. It is not the place of religeon to say how the world was created because it deals with spiritual matters and not physical ones. clear as mud? :} BTW religeon, politics and morality should be taught at home, school is a place to learn fact not ideology.” 4:54:15 AM 5/01/03 “mutt, you haven't refuted my assertion, other than to say it's lame. not to intellectual of you LOL. Strat, your slogan should be "Never give up; Never surrender!"” 9:06:25 AM 5/01/03 “Mutt your are an ignorant fool with no good dirrection. Huh? Are you still mad about me showing your interview advice to be common sense?” 9:08:10 AM 5/01/03 “well, there would have to be a challenge in order for me to surrender, now wouldn't there?” 11:42:32 PM 5/01/03 “hush now, strat, the higher primates are speaking >:-) dom: what most ppl arent aware of, is that evolution is a fact, not a theory. no credible scientist questions evolution. the phrase "theory of evolution" is akin to something like "theory of round earth". unfortuneately, many laymen still cling to 4000 year old superstitious mythology. evolution has been proven, the fossil record is there. most bible-thumpers refuse to accept it because they think if you discount genesis, then the whole bible is a lie, then their whole world and spiritual security falls apart. what is debatable, is the idea of natural selection. that has not been proven. to recap (say it with me boys and girls) "evolution is fact, natural selection is theory, Creation is myth"” 12:52:56 PM 5/02/03 “Did any of our resident teachers weigh in on this thread? Is there much truth to this or do textbook publishers do a generally good job of resisting pressure from narrow interest groups? I know my daughter's textbooks are generally much better than what we had in the olden times. Her teachers work at developing critical thought - not the rote memory that was stressed in times past.” 1:33:32 PM 5/02/03 “I read all of this!! "Women have always controlled everything. They are just smart and devious enough to let men think they do. In the past when work was dangerous and dirty (like clearing a forest for fields or fighting injuns) they stayed inside and raised babies and only came out with sunbonnets on. Now that the men haved tamed the world, the women want equality." le Subtil 11:18:55 AM 04/30/03 le Subtil surely you know that most of the work done in this world is done by women. Are you annoyed that we want to be paid for it? Of course evolution is a theory--everything in science is a theory waiting for a new and better theory to displace it. That is what is so marvelous about science--it is unafraid to correct itself.” 9:16:52 PM 5/02/03 why is everyone so wimpy? “making little liberals is the job of the NEA. anybody who doesn't believe this needs to really look into it. just like media bias, i can provide an overwhelming mound of evidence. it's out there if you really want to see it. some schools are worse than others. our kids' schools are pretty good here. being involved in the PTA, which almost nobody does, is a great way to stay on top of your local schools and see what their really teaching them. my boy, the 9 yr old came home a couple weeks ago and said his teacher tried to tell them that GW was a bad president and that he was wrong for for the iraq thing and even afghanistan. i asked him what he thought and he said he told the teacher that he believed bush was a good president and that bush was right. i was all YEAH! YOU DA BOY! lmao! high fiving him. he said most of the kids liked bush. the teacher got into a bad mood after this happened. of course i know her from meeting her, and i like her. she's just a liberal and tries to influence impressionable kids to. i started to get mad and tell her about it, or the principle, but then i figured my boy(and the other lids) put her in her place just fine. funny that a nine year old sees through this crap and ya'll grown ups don't. anyways, my point is, ya'll can sit here and try to impress each other with fancy smancy words and deep thoughts but it's really simple. if you think this whole idea is BS, look at what they are trying to convey by doing this. look at the idea they are trying to supress. look at the way they are trying to make us think. it's not critical at all, it's dumbed down sumbission. it's liberalism, plain and simple. LI BER AL ISM now, if it was all conservative ideas being pushed, ya'll would be doing backflips about it.” 9:25:28 PM 5/02/03 “maryphyl, you are wrong. you do not know what you are talking about. did you read the rest of my post? from your point of view, a round earth is just a theory. gravity is just a theory. to say that evolution is just a theory, is just being pc so as not to offend the creationists. evolution is a fact. creationism is idiocy. what did ppl 4000 years ago know about the physical world? jack #&%!$. lets say for the sake of argument that the bible IS the word of god. he couldnt very well tell those barely post-primitive ppl all the stuff we know today. it would be greek to them. knowledge is not only much more meaningful, but makes more sense when you figure it out for yourself. so he told moses a cute little story with serpents and fruits, and along the way, geniuses like newton and galileo and einstein and hawking figured it all out. were my words small enough for you strat? and while ive got your attention, stratjacket, beat a dead horse much? liberals cause everything from cancer to crotch-rot, dont they? and of course your kid is going to disagree with that teacher, hes YOUR KID. DUH. hes been primarily exposed to your point of view for 9 years. hes a little strattete. and where is all this evidence you keep talking about? all you ever do is hurl insults, but never make a sustained argument that flows logically from given facts to irrefutable conclusions. sure, theres liberal bias in the media, theres conservative bias in the media (especially talk-radio), theres black bias, white bias, dog bias, cat bias. if there is so much liberal bias in the media, maybe its because THEY ARE RIGHT. i mean, isnt that always your favorite argument? 85 percent of americans believe president bush is doing the right thing or some such? whenever you make an assertion like that, that indicates you are of the belief that the majority way of thinking is the correct way of thinking. otherwise, whats the point of bringing it up? so if the majority of the media is liberal, then surely a liberal mind is a sound and well-adjusted mind. thats if the majority is liberal.” 10:37:06 PM 5/02/03 “weak man, weak. oh well, i din't expect much.....here's some smart guys that like God... Our unalterable resolution would be to be free. They have attempted to subdue us by force, but God be praised! in vain. Their arts may be more dangerous then their arms. Let us then ... under God trust our cause to our swords." --Samuel Adams "The rescue of drowning men is ... a duty worth dying for, but not worth living for. It seems to me that all political duties (among which I include military duties) are of this kind. A man may have to die for our country: but no man must, in any exclusive sense, live for his country. He who surrenders himself without reservation to the temporal claims of a nation, or a party, or a class is rendering to Caesar that which, of all things, most emphatically belongs to God: himself." --C.S. Lewis "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible." --Thomas Aquinas scopps, i'll debate you anytime, if you'll just stand still long for me to draw a bead on ya. geesh man, you're all over the place. i'm not that big of an insult hurler either. the sucess of talk radio and fox is directly related to the fact the the libs are ebing revealed to be wrong, not right. the walls are crumbling on the monopoly and it will snowball on them fast. i'll show ya proof. you ll just say that i am stupid for not having original thoughts. you agreed with my assertion eariler and now seem to be backpeddling. you were the only one on here that directly addressed me. everyone blathers offtopic and doesn't listen so i repeat my self. my point, liberals are behind this whole PC mess. do you refute that? if you wanna talk about God, do it on a God thread or make a new one.” 10:53:58 PM 5/02/03 “MayrPhyl: I've always liked and respected you, and you don't know me much, so I feel it's necessary to tell you that I was just joshing about the men/women thing on the TrailTalk thread about "what we're teaching the kids". In reality I have the utmost respect for the wife and mother's role, I believe it to be the highest calling, and the most difficult job on the planet. I was making somewhat of an inside joke to a friend or two that I knew would read that, and a little trying to stir up things on a slow day. Craig aka leSubtil” 11:37:48 PM 5/02/03 “2scoops: Let's see you prove that the earth is round, beyond any doubt, all by yourself.” 11:55:18 PM 5/02/03 “well to be semi-precise the earth isnt round... its kinda pear shaped. Evolution is not a scientific law, thats why its called a theory and its still evolving. Call me when they finish defining it. There is no evidence that I know of dis-proving creation. Believing something without evidence could be considered faith and fall into the realm of religion. Women have always sent men out to do their difficult and dangerous work. After 5000 years men still havent learned :}” 2:41:23 AM 5/03/03 “i cant prove the earth is round. but it sure makes sense to me. and evolution IS fact. how things evolved, that is the question. but, yea, thats getting off topic.” 5:38:23 AM 5/03/03 “The world is 'round'... it just isn't spherical.” 7:13:28 AM 5/03/03 “lol. Creation "sure makes sense to me".” 8:43:10 AM 5/03/03 “Wow, cant believe I just read all of that. Strat and Scoops on the issue of media, you both need to read a new release called "What Liberal Media" I'm in the middle of it and will let you know what I think when finished. It's an in depth look at media and how it is perceived by the public. Lots and lots of supporting facts and sources. On this issue: evolution SHOULD be taught. evolution is a fact, not a theory. it happened. where the debate really is, is whether or not it was by natural selection, i.e. random mutations causing significant changes in the species over millions of years. that was the accepted theory for years. now, scientists are moving away from natural selection, to what i have perceived as sort of a "guided evolution". yes, god created the universe. and the world. and man. god created the universe and man by means of the big bang and evolution. its amazing how in our early years as a civilization, science and religion were so closely connected, then moved away from each other, and are now coming back together again." 2scoops 10:12:04 AM 04/30/03 "scientists are moving away from natural selection, to what i have perceived as sort of a "guided evolution" No they're not. Unless they're stating their personal views. God/the supernatural is totally outside the focus of science." Mutt 10:14:33 AM 04/30/03 I think I know what Scoops is talking about here. There is a new movement is science. It is a realization that all the things they've been studying for years are not moving in some random order. There is new realization that there is some order to the universe and a renewed effort to find out what that is. It's not creationism or beliving in the supernatural. It's ajust a fresh look at an old question.” 9:54:06 AM 5/03/03 “One more thing. Back to the original issue this thread posed. I wonder how the current situatio in Iraq will be presented in our children's text books in the next couple of years.” 10:00:39 AM 5/03/03 “yeah, but you can't say lumberjack.....” 10:04:00 AM 5/03/03 “Actually I can saylumberjack and I can teach my kids to say lumberjack. Not because I have anything against women, but because that's what is is and what its always been. Just because a few narrow minded people think they can control our thinking doesn't mean we have to follow suit. Teach your kids what you want them to know and how to think and make unbiased decision on their own” 10:11:28 AM 5/03/03 “Or perhaps the science community realised that the universe is too well ordered for random chance. there are several schools of thought involved beside god-guided. evidence has mounted that meteors and inter-galatic debris can carry bacteria and may have sparked the initial life on earth. There is also the claim by some that advanced beings visited earth and colonised it. Either way in a million years all life on earth will end when the black hole at the center of our galaxy merges with anouther nearby galaxy. Turns out the end was a lot closer then we ever imagined.” 10:20:23 AM 5/03/03 “well said indiany.... dom, i'm frightened for your children....” 10:27:14 AM 5/03/03 The Nerve!?!? “Got me by six seconds, Nig!" treebeard 09:16:26 AM 04/30/03 I believe one of those workd should be censored... Prolly a resident evil placed by ViOlIn.” 10:33:43 AM 5/03/03 “you hate it when that happens....” 10:35:13 AM 5/03/03 “"im a lumberJILL and im ok!" nah. doesnt have quite the same ring to it.” 2:23:56 PM 5/04/03 “My youngest was 2 in Oct '92. When someone mentioned George Bush, he would say, "George Bush, bad guy!" So stratjacket's kids are little "conservatives"? My, My.......” 2:45:23 PM 5/04/03 “yeah tom, luickily they inherited my incredible deductive reasoning and common sense....they all make straight A's, a few B's. now if i could only get them to clean their rooms they'd be perfect......” 6:02:53 PM 5/04/03 “I need to put more smiley faces :) and more LOLs and more >GRINS< in my posts. I usually have a >GRIN< on my face while I am posting. What I think won't change things LOL ;) >GRIN<” 6:09:49 PM 5/04/03 A Little Update On An Old Thread... 1:39:02 PM 5/28/03 “Well gosh-darned-blankety-heck! That's crazy! Whoops, I mean rationally-challenged!” 1:45:41 PM 5/28/03 “lmao @ Aero. Oooops, I think I just insulted a group of certified lunatics!” 1:49:01 PM 5/28/03 “Just when I thought we couldn't dumb-down our society any further....” 1:56:59 PM 5/28/03 4:24:00 PM 9/29/04 “I saw this earlier. Big oops!” 4:30:11 PM 9/29/04 “That's inexcusable.” 4:33:35 PM 9/29/04 “wonder what happened to the principal! Shame on the staff for not determining what they were serving! (Were they that naive that they couldnt SMELL the tequila?! Can you imagine if it was some drink that had been left-over and had spoiled? Hundreds of students with stomach poisoning?! IT doesn't seem like they should have even served it in the first place if it was a "leftover" limeade!” 4:33:39 PM 9/29/04 “They should not have had the alcohol on school grounds. Plan and simple. If they would have celebrated of campus, this would not have happened. There is a place to drink and have a good time, and there is a place not to.” 4:35:22 PM 9/29/04 “Pink, I don't know if the principal had any knowledge of it. I am sure if he did, this would have never happened. At least I hope so.” 4:36:37 PM 9/29/04 “Musta been a Catholic school?” 4:37:03 PM 9/29/04 “LMAO! THat's hilarious!” 9:01:04 PM 9/29/04 “Damn, I knew some teachers that had the preverbial whiskey bottle in the drawer, but they never gave me any! the stingy bastards!” 9:03:56 PM 9/29/04 “Lucky it wasn't someone's science project.” 3:26:49 AM 9/30/04 “My dad is a former school principal and teacher. I love to hear the stories about the "good ole days" they often involve a bottle of whiskey he kept in his desk for celebritory purposes. Times have changed,I would be furious if my daughter were one of the students.” 5:25:14 AM 9/30/04 “I heard about this, LMAO! I'm sure some of the parents must be ticked. But it's still funny.” 6:58:47 AM 9/30/04
