I'm patiently waiting for Backpacker Mag's article on the incident.

I have nothing but sympathy and respect for this man and what he went through. I think most people would have just given up and died. He has so much courage. But I agree with Tango. All of it would have been avoided if he had just had let a friend know where he was going and when he would be back.

I heard him descibe how he broke the bones in his arm so he could cut it off. UNBELIEVABLE.

Then he rapelled down and hiked 8 miles out.

I would have probably died.

Since his multi tool couldn't cut through his skin, I'm guessing his 'hacking' at his arm was more like stabbing. He must have poked the sharp point of the blade through his arm, cutting about a half inch at a time.

I'm with Phil, some poor canyoneer would find my sun bleached skeleton hanging from an 800 pound boulder.

is he gonna write a book?
is that why he won't tell a whole lot of the story?

800 pound boulder? i would have been dead already.

I think it's probably hard for him to relive certain parts of his ordeal right now.

It said in the newspaper article I read that he was an avid climber, and regularly outdoors, so what i want to know is why he didn't have a decent knife with him?
