Thanks

Unless otherwise closed, you can camp for 14 days on any public land, and there is alot of public land around Moab.

All freakin' over!! When I was there, we camped east of town. There are a few campsites along the highway, right on the Colorado River. I went up a little ways into the Manti LaSals there.

If you're going to the Needles unit of Canyonlands and need a place to car camp, there are a few sites at Newspaper Rock. Nice little area with trees by a small creek. FREE, too, I believe! Stop at Newspaper Rock, whatever the case!!!!

Dang, when are you going? And where are you backpacking when in Utah? When did I last visit Utah? Ooops, that's a question for MOI. Was Oct. 2000. DANG, I'M DUE!!

Just watch out for boulders that might fall down and pin your arm. Also, be sure to carry a big enough knife, just in case.

You guys are VERY funny!!! Lizs I'm going in 3 weeks. We will arrive in Moab in the evening and it being Memorial day weekend I imagine it's gonna be busy, so that's why I want to know about car camping options. Mon, we hang out at Arches , tues we skoot down to the Needles for a 2 day backpack. From there it's up in the air and there are TOOOO many choices, I'm thinking about overnighters in Grand Gultch and then to the Escalante. There is a trail in Escalante near Hells Backbone road , I think it goes by Calf Creek. ANyway 3 years ago I hiked in for about an hr and was blown away by how fantastic it was, I want to go back and backpack there. Since I'll be with some folks that have never been to Utah, from there maybe we can do dayhikes at Bryce and then to the Narrows in Zion. It's ridiculous how many fantastic areas there are down there. I have a hard time deciding what to do. Thank's you all are GREAT!!
