4 door, hardtop Chevy Tracker, 26 mpg on the freeway, no idea in the city, since I never go there.

It's climbed the divide several times, offroad, and done Lost Trail east of Marble, and Nellie Creek and Schaffer Gulch in the San Juans.

Keeps moving through 3 foot drifts, but 4 footers will eventually bring it to a halt.

Good mileage, excellant acceleration, excellant off road performance, room for five or two plus a week's gear, I laugh at the ignorance (jealousy?) of SUV haters.

Wonder if they will ever make a fuel made from Granola?

Wow, this is great to see all the mileages for the Jeeps!! I am right now looking for one in the age range of 94-ish, hopefully no more than 110,000 (dream on)... vicinity of $4,000. (Am I dreaming??)

I am also debating Cherokees (of which I now have two) vs. Grand Cherokee... and even vs. some fairly old Grand Wagoneers. Can someone tell me what the V-8s in the G. Cherokee or Wagoneer are getting???

I've seen some models with overdrive, but can't remember if it was the Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. Would imagine that would help mileage.

My 89 and 90 Cherokees are around the same range you guys give, but have all kinds of problems like burning hot, oil blow-by, leaking anti-freeze... things I have to keep an eye on. BUT... I don't feel so bad after seeing these mileages!!! lol

Also, my automatic (vs. the 5-speed stick) has a new leak. It's just to the right, by the center console, under the dashboard. Seems to be brownish. Oil?? Heater Core??

I NEED TO SELL THESE AND GET THE NEWER ONE.

OK, another question... would it be crazy to get the real off-road Jeeps? And what would a person look for in those.

Hmmm, I suppose I should just post this in a Jeep thread, huh?

Lizs, the grand and wagonner used to have a 360cui V-8, they were gas hogs!

I have a 98 Wrangler. I love it. The gas mileage sucks since I put a lift and 33 inch Super Swamper tires on it. Also, I have a winch on front, so the extra weight of that and the supporting bumper for it doesn't help mpg either. But I guarantee I'll never get stuck. At least not so far in the past few years.

'01 Ford Escape
2.0 l
5-speed
27-28 mpg Baltimore to Wva Highlands and back.
We got that kinda mileage with four guys and rucksacks and boots in the back.

Emission controls in the '70s were add-ons and rather doggy.

Modern cars have emission control designed in with multiple valve and combustion chamber flow schemes and sensors to effect the fuel injection for efficiency/power/emissions.
Good stuff and getting better.
These things are a result of competition and regulation.

Ford Ranger 4X4, 17-21 mpg on it's best day, which interestingly enough was in a snowstorm, on the way to Atitash Ski mountain, in 4WD all the way....

I wish they'd get around to releasing the HEV Escape already! Yeah, like we're going to be shopping for another new vehicle anytime soon, lol.

2003 Ford Ranger 4x4, level II..15/17 around town, in 4 wheel and in the mounains... don't know about hwy yet.

My old 89 Ranger got about 20/22, uphill, freeway, mountains or in 4x4, didn't matter. Much smaller v6 then my new truck. The 03 sure hauls a$$ though.

I get right around 16 or 17. Time for a tune-up.

Sass- This is just my opinion, but I think those Honda Elements are pretty darn ugly unappealing...at least from the outside.
