Can you go out to eat by yourself

“Just curious if anyone has a problem of going out to eat lunch or dinner by themselves. The reason I am asking is today while eating lunch these two woman behind me were talking about this and both agreed that is something they do not do. If they can't get someone to go with them they don't go out. Is this normal for women or even guys. While I was there I started looking around and sure enough I didn't see any women alone but I did see some men alone.
What is your thought on this and if you don't go out alone tell us why.”

“This is too funny, I was just having an in depth discussion about this with one of my friends two nights ago!

I concluded that I was uncomfortable with it if it had waiter/waitress service. I would never do that. A fast food style, pick up your grub and bus the table yourself kind of place, then I would eat alone at on occasion, mainly if I'm on the road. But never at a sit down and get served place.

My friend is a salesman and is on the road a lot, and he does it all the time and is not self-consious about it whatsoever.”

“I have no problem doing stuff like that by myself. If I always waited for someone to come along, I'd hardly ever go anywhere or do anything. :)”

“I had second period off and went to the English high school in the neighbouring village to see the Phys Ed teacher about our high school rugby league and the English teacher about the provincial exam in English that fifteen of my kids will be writing.

I decided to drop into the restaurant in that village simply because none of my colleagues would be there. I bought Backpacker and had a nice, peaceful lunch reading and eating with a glass of wine. Eating alone once in a while is a treat.”

i wouldn't if it were a restaurant with waiters/waitresses. i eat out alone all the time, otherwise. i go to the movies by myself sometimes, too!”

“I don't have any trouble doing any of these things by myself. I just don't get an opportunity to do them that way very pften. I'm surrounded by family most of the time. And when I am at work, I bring my lunch because eating out in Manhattan can get expensive”

But I have dined by myself at a nicer restaurant w/ a wait staff, when I was out of town on business and living in a hotel. I sat in that room enough, it was nice to get out. I took a book with me, and spent time people watching.”

“I'll go if it's just me or a gaggle of the gang..when i was a sales rep i would eat at ruby tuesdays and other sit down waited resturants..sometimes due to the customer not being able to make it, or not having a customer lunch that day. It's no biggy..it's just food”

“If I'm traveling and have to eat alone, I like restaurants with a bar. Then you can sit up there and eat with all the other people who are eating alone. After a short time we're all eating together and after a few drinks we're all best friends.”

However, if I'm spending a week in NH without wifey and I decide to go out to dinner, I will sit in the bar and eat or if there isn't a bar, I will asked to be seated in a nice corner or window set, but never in the center of the dining room. If all else fails, I pick up a hooker and take her to dinner.”

I work alone usually 4 nights a week, so if I don't eat alone, it's unusual.”

“I used to travel alot for work and therefore ate out alone alot. I always tried to find a resturant where I could eat at the bar. Usually ended up talking to some interesting people. Of course once I was eating at a bar talking to a nice looking girl, and she turned out to be a sorority sister of my then fiance. Still haven't heard the end of that.”

Dinner - If I can, I'll grab take out and go back to my room, to a park, or go home and watch TV while eating.”

i am surrounded by people at work all day.......i LOVE to go out to eat alone and take something to read or just people watch. Plus, in this town, i cant consider i am eating alone in a crowded restaurant where inevitably you run into someone you know and spend the time waiting on food chatting.
movies....i prefer to go alone...i really do not like having to reach for popcorn ....:) plus it disturbs my cinema experience when someone talks to me during the film.”

“The one thing I've noticed about eating alone is that you get worse service, probably because the waiter/waitress figures that the tip isn't going to be as big as a party of 4.”

“I eat out along once in awhile. Like what Gremlin said, sometimes it is a nicer experience. I've never been to the movies alone, but I don't really have a problem w/ it.”
