“We did that for a casino night in college once. They were all live bands and we had a different genre on each floor of the student center. To say it was a huge smashing success would be an understatement. I would think that would be too expensive and logistically too complex for a highschool prom, even with DJs instead of bands and each in a different room instead of entire floors. In reaction to gojo's comment from yesterday about the music selections, that's a good point.
I went to our school's prom last year as a teacher chaperone and it was a ridiculous scene. Here you had all these beautifully dressed young people just standing around in their fancy duds as nothing but angry undanceable nightmare music played. Kids complained before and after to deaf ears. It immediately became a racial issue.
If you complained about the playing of nothing but rap and hip-hop you were being racially insensitive. There has to be and can be a middle ground.

At my kids high school they made a point to play a variety of music at a dance this winter and they came home and said it was a blast.
Good planning and oversight by responsible adults helps.”
