lOG hOME
My g/f and I have been tossing around the idea of building a log home in the future. I know you lived in one but wanted to know if you built it yourself and any other info. or recommendations you might have. There's a ton of info. on the net but I thought I'd go right to the source. We would be building on approx. 5 uncleared acres if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Log homes tend to cost about the same per square foot as conventional built for similar features and size. They use more wood in the construction than stick-built. Different parts of the country differ, but around here they do not resell well and do not increase in value the same rate as stick-built.

Still, some people like the look and feel.

I would recommend going to model log homes, go to log home shows, and read the magazines. Need to know what size, style, type of logs, budget, etc.... The most important thing is to research and plan. One decision is do you want milled logs or handcrafted?

Fire away any questions you may have and I'll try and help.

A great website for advice is www.lhoti.com but keep in mind that many people on that website are manufacturers, builders etc....but that can be a good and bad thing.

I was wondering the same thing. I have his email, I'm going to drop him a note this afternoon. He left a belt in my car a while back. I'm wearing it right now, hee hee.

Get yer minds outta da gutter. He forgot some stuff in my car after a backpacking trip one time. :-P

Adventurist, no it's not black. It's a multicolored cloth kinda deal.. it's pretty stylish.

Oh yeah. I emailed him and he emailed me back. He's taking a break from TT because of all the bickering that was going on a while back. He's doing well. Hopefully he'll pop in soon, I told him things have calmed down here a bit.
