Georgia's New(est) Flag!

Starts flying today...
It's based on the original Stars and Bars of the Confederate States of America. It is the flag that flew over GA until 1957.

The GA flag retains the circular star pattern of the union portion, but they are decreased in size to accomodate the state seal that lies within the circle.

The Confederate battle flag featuring the St. Andrews cross is often referred to as the Stars and Bars, but erroneously theremongst.

The Stars and Bars closely resembles the Stars and Stripes when viewed from afar, ie, across a battlefield, so it was discontinued in favor of the "Rebel" flag.

I think our new flag will be quite complimentary to the American flag as they fly atop our flag poles. This flag more closely resembles our national flag more than any other state flag, IMO.

There will be a referendum next year so's the Good People of Georgia can vote betwixt the Stars and Bars or the St. Andrews cross pattern that so proudly proclaims the rampant racism that sweeps daily across the Peace State. j/k.

Some buddy help with a link... pleeeeeze?

Wow, bit - you'da s#!+!

Ewker,
follow the first link I entered (S&B). It's at a state website that features all the flags of GA's history. The '57-'01 flag is there.

(What am I sayin'? Bit will have a pic posted before I can respond...)

The irony, IMO, is that noboddy is making any flack about the newest flag despite the fact that it represents GA's Confederate past as much as the '57-'01 flag. What never...

Any links showing the proper display of that flag which is designed to evoke a treasonous, seditious past?…

Yes. Yes there is. I was f@*&ed-up as a soup sandwich; drunk as a bicycle; plain $#!+-faced. Something wrong with that?

Let's take a look-see:
*The sale of alcholic beverages is legal in the Great State of Montana to people of legal age.
*I was not - nor had been - driving a motor vehicle.
*I had two attendants.

Hmmm. Nothing wrong that I can tell.

Ewker -
I, too, prefer the St. Andrews cross patterned flag, but the Cross has been desecrated to no end by the likes of illiterate rednecks and haters and bikers and such. The previous two pics you show are examples of that.

Grandpa Zion marched beneath them all, so it really doesn't matter which pattern we use, IMO. The important thing is that we pay honor to our ancestors that marched for their cause.

I never said there was anything wrong with passing out on a doormat.

You seem to think Granpappy Zion was the only one to fight for all the wrong reasons.

My ancestors fought on both sides. My great great grandfather (Confederate Veteran) James Allen Cocke was taken prisoner on September 20, 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga and taken to Camp Douglas Prison (Illinois) for the duration of the war. He faired a lot better than his brother, Colonel John B. Cocke, who was killed at the battle of Jenkins Ferry in April of 1864.

While they may have believed strongly in what they were doing, I can’t honor their cause. In fact, I’m quite embarrassed by it.

But I'm not the least bit embarrased. That was a long time ago, in an atmosphere not at all resembling the New South.

Times have changed - for the better, natch.

It wasn't my cause, but it was theirs.

It was a great and terrible moment in our nation's history. It was settled - the Union held - and Zion came back home to his plow.

I still got a grudge against them Michigan boys that once routed the GA 50th, tho. LOL!
