Where in Tenn. is Fontana? I don't find it on Mapquest.

I'm in Raleigh, NC. Where are you in AL? I've lived in B'ham and Tuscaloosa.

Fontana is in NC, the state you live in. ;)

I haven't noticed you posting before, welcome. Tell us a little more about yourself.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be totally abstruse Snafu. I think Retugo is also a newbie around here, although apparently not to the internet world. I could be mistaken.

Oh, OK.

When the bottom dropped out of the Middleless Dancing industry last year, the layoffs came swift and furious....

Well, maybe not. I was a tech-geek, but like many of my contemporaries I am now an Executive Homemaker. At least my wife has a job...

So, you see how I ended up here. 186 days on the internet and you're bound to end up somewhere, I suppose.

retugo - Been there myself.
The trips page (button in the "section" area of the top right) has most of our trips posted. We are a little careful about minors going on trips, but if you are above 18, welcome.

One does need a thick skin to last around here.

I found Fontana..It's about 6-7 hours from me. That's about as far as I could drive and still be in the same state.

Trips Page
I am aware of the trips page, and, in fact, this was what I was looking for when I found the forum a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I was hoping to see more activity, especially locally.

there is a carolina hikers group on Yahoo. I don't know how much hiking they do but they have a trip posted on the TT trips page for June 13th to the Smokies. The organizer is clem35yeah and if you click on the name it will take you to a profile which has there home page.

Yea, now that I have reread your first post, I can see that. ;)

backpacker.com has a "southern" forum, but hardly any trips show up on it.

That a look at the Blood Mt. (GA)trip. I'm going on that one in a couple of weeks.

Ohh...backpacker.com didn't place NC in the "southern" forum. They put it in the "mid-alantic" forum.

I'd go if I was physically up to it right now. And I highly recommend it. I've dayhiked what they're planning on backpacking and it's fantastic.

What did you injure?
retugo

It's not an injury, it's an illness. I had to have surgery. Now it's just that slow freakin' recovery and getting back into shape. It's driving me nuts. The other day I walked around a block and it was hard what's that all about?
skullcap

I am familiar with that problem. Surgery blows, and the recovery sucks. It's a pretty effective weight loss program, though.
