I think it is great when ANY orgainization has a family oriented event like this. I don't have to whole heartedly agree with their entire position to enjoy it.

Too far away for me, but I would sure like a chance to win that Henry rifle. Nice weapon.

Oh Frabjous joy!
Last week (Thursday) canada took the step to make the abolition of the long gun registry a reality.

The long gun registry was the compulsory registration of hunting rifles and shotguns. Restricted weapons (handguns and police specific weapons and prohibited -collectors - weapons need still to be registered). Regitration has been restored to the RCMP from the call centre where it is rumoured that employees sold records by postal code to criminals.

Everybody that I have talked to likes the PT145. I used to have the PT-745 single stack version (6+1) and liked it quite a bit, but traded it off.

Now that winter is here, I added a FN Herstal FNP-45. 15+1 or 14+1. Makes me a little less concerned about a bug (back up gun).

I had a PT 92 and thought it was a fine weapon. I did not care for the 9mm round, however.

I would like to have the same design in a .40

It is my understanding that Taurus basically boosted the Baretta designs a while back.

The 145 and 745 is actually a different series of pistols, but you are right Chili, Taurus makes their version of the PT92. Story supposed to be that Taurus purchased the Beretta factory in Brazil. The PT96 is the .40 cal model.

All over America demand for firearms and ammunition is rising amid concerns that rising unemployment, which passed 10 per cent this month, will lead inexorably to higher rates of crime. Fears of terrorism have also helped to lift demand, as have concerns among gun owners that the Obama Administration may introduce restrictions on gun ownership and impose additional taxes.
Smith & Wesson is expecting sales to rise by 30 per cent to $102 million (61 million) in the first quarter of the next financial year, after growing by more than 13 per cent this year to $335 million.
At Sturm and Ruger, sales for the third quarter hit $71.2 million, up 70 per cent from the same period last year. At Glock, the leader in law enforcement markets, pistol sales rose by 71 per cent in the first quarter of the financial year for 2010, in comparison with the same period last year.

The price on some firearms are starting to ease down a little. It has been nearly a year since the Obama run up in price. So far no new laws have passed at the national level and that is a good thing. The focus has been on the economy and health care. I guarantee you that the antigun nuts are still waiting for their turn at bat with new legislation. If they can make it illegal to not have health care insurance in this country our guns and other rights will be taken soon after.

Yeah we wake up every morning and figure out ways to whittle down constitutional rights. That is why we donate so freely to the ACLU.

If they make all health care illegal, then HC will be available everywhere and cheap, because unlike the drug wars no money will be used to pretend they can provide any enforcement.

like a cannon Bill. You feel the power like no there hand gun I own. My Smith 44 magnum model 329PD Alaska backpacker 2.5 in barrel is harder to keep under control than the ruger 454 and could be the scandium alloy with ss cylinder that gives the 44 a light weight causing the kick. I do know that shooting a 1 inch thick polycarbonate Lexan target the 454 literally burned a hole as big as my fist and the 44 burned a hole half the size. Both are good Grizz weapons but the 454 is a more powerful kill over the 44.

I own many handguns but the casull is a stud period.

Thanks. I got a new big bore revolver a few weeks ago but have yet to shoot it. A Smith and Wesson 460 Magnum...will shoot the 460 or .454 or .45LC.

Taurus PT145 is probably one of the nicest "shooting" compacts I have ever fired. Truly fun to shoot. For a .45ACP I was amazed at how well it handled the kick.

Well worth the time.

On BB for grizzlies I carry tennis shoes and an asp baton.

Put on shoes and hit my hiking parter in the knee with the baton.

They seem to have about the same recoil as a 22.
Damn fun to shoot.

"They seem to have about the same recoil as a 22."

Agreed, thats one of the big selling points for me. I dont enjoy high recoil wpns anymore. I can shoot 5.56 all day and walk away smiling. They are louder than hell. Accuracy is good to very good with the iron sights, throw a 4X ACOG on it and you can engage man sized targets out to 800m if you know how to use it right.

After I get my daughter comfortable with her .22 bolt gun I am going to get her slinging lead with this.

Naked Ape, the deal is over. We had to order em a while back....

WagonWheel, its a DPMS AP4, they sell for $900-$1000. Depending on where you buy. I have seen em online for $899 but then you have to pay a dealer an FFL transfer fee, that'd be anywhere from $25-$100 more.

The "carry handle" is detachable leaving a flat top rail to mount and optic. I doubt I'll put anything up top any time soon, but eventually i'd like to get an ACOG. I can get em for a very good price since I know 2 people who work at the factory but that will be a long term deal.

Wagon wheel whut you talkin' bout "are they less than $700" and then asking if "853 delivered, new" would be of any interest. Heyull, I'd be more interested in that earlier price, if that's what Birch can get me one for.

Sass' is not for sale ;) we need to keep a his and her model around... I believe in the 3 is 2, 2 is 1 model.

I will see what I can do Naked Ape. It'll shoot both but the barrel twist is designed for a bullet weight of 62gr and above. The lighter bullets use a higher barrel twist usually 12.

WW, thats a great deal you found.

Cactus Tactical has a DPMS AR-15 Sportical, comes w/ a nylong sling, cleaning kit and 2 30rd magz for $690. It shoots the 556, so it'll be OK for 223 also (or so I heard).

Look it up and see if yuns got that beat. Or tell me what this is lacking at this price. Thanx. E me what ya have Sass.

naked ape, barrel twist is what stabilizes a bullets flight path. a heavier bullet needs more twist ( 1 rotation in 9 inches of barrel for example)a lighter bullet fired through a 1:9 barrel may tumble or began to come apart, fragmenting as it leaves the barrel, though unlikely in the caliber. As a general rule lighter bullets need fewer rotations per given length.

Here is a good article if you are insanely bored.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/External_ballistics

Thats a very good deal on the sporter. Be advised that it has a fairly light barrel. Here is a link to the DPMS sight where you can research their various M4 variants.

Barrel twist isnt generally a concern for most shooters, but when you get into precision or distance shooting it accounts for a significant amount of your wpns ability to keep tight consistent groups.

The army had an issue for a short time when the M249 SAW entered the arsenal. Its barrel is a 1:7 twist if memory serves and the ammo at the time was 55gr. So side impacts due to tumbling were not uncommon. With the change to 62gr lake city SS109 (M855 ball) many years back the problem was resolved. The military also contracts the ammo and barrels to be properly mated in terms of weight and twist.

My room mate is a sniper who also loads and shoots precison ammo/wpns back home, we BS about this stuff a lot.

Naked Ape, I first asked a question, and then later made a quote, comment. A Panther Model is different than what AP4 would be. Hence should be a different price.

OK, thanx sarg. So what's the difference in the Panther and AP4? I mean, which would a feller rather own, with general shooting, hunting, and zombies and such?

Birch what would be your sniper friend's prefered semi-automatic (and yours too for that matter) be, I mean for the normal Joe Shmo? That' not thousands of dollars.

Birch you warned about that Sportical model having a fairly light barrel, what's the drawback? Totability is a plus, so what would I be trading out for? Durability? Long-distance precision?
