VioLiN 4:57:41 PM 12/22/05 Some by guns. The ones that don't buy guns troll on TT instead.” 4:16:30 PM 12/22/05 ““Nigal, the thought of you with a gun is mildly disturbing to me....I don't know why though?” I’m a dork on most subjects but I take the guns very seriously. No seriously, I do. I even keep my pants on while shooting it’s that serious. “uuummm...this may be a dumb question but why ya need a light?” The little light slides right onto the gun which means hands free shooting in the dark. Plus it tickles the gadget geek in me.” 4:34:56 PM 12/22/05 “My Glock .45 has a built in laser. That is an interesting little piece of gadget. Follow the shiny red light!” 4:37:30 PM 12/22/05 “Good choice-we have both the 9 and the 40 by them. I love shooting the 9-it handles very nicely-with minimal recoil. Gotta love that! Ours are in the matte black though.” 4:38:24 PM 12/22/05 “By BHP has never jammed on me and I have fed it all kinds of crappy ammo. It's a real time tested design but I admit that the "cocked and locked" think takes some getting used to.” 4:39:54 PM 12/22/05 “This is my rifle this is my gun this is for fighting this is for fun...” 4:43:16 PM 12/22/05 “Yeah sar the one I looked at was the black one. I don't like the 1/2 stainless look. The other gun I looked at was the Magnum Research SP-21... ”4:45:17 PM 12/22/05 “I even keep my pants on while shooting it’s that serious LOL!!” 4:47:40 PM 12/22/05 “Btw..the light is worth it. Do you have a Surefire light though?I carry a Surefire on me as protection (I love suckering friends into looking at it as I shine it...bawhahhah!!) Some toys: A bad shot of me.... ![]() Another sweetie: ”4:50:40 PM 12/22/05 “No I don't have a Surefire light. The light is made by SA I think. My buddy has a SA sub compact like that and it is the sweetest gun I've ever handled. Perfectly balanced and completely tricked out.” 4:52:47 PM 12/22/05 “My carry. ![]() My toys. 9mm ![]() 40S&W ![]() 45 Auto ”4:59:39 PM 12/22/05 “Nice photo Sabar1.” 5:10:49 PM 12/22/05 “Nice Colt DDX Sabar, I thought you were the freezer bag lady? Guns too?” 6:14:29 PM 12/22/05 “Hey Backslcaker...the family that shoots together stays together ;-) Lets just say me and the man love to shoot, be it for fun or competition. I'd post photos of my son shooting, but last time someone got, er, upset over that he was using torso shaped targets..oops-maybe I should have waited till he was 9? Anyhoo, I'd like to think I am multi talented ;-)” 6:34:57 PM 12/22/05 Light “Being just my personal opinion(500+ hours of training) & 30 years of jobs carrying weapons, I wouldn't mount a light on any weapon. It will get in the way & make you an easy target. If you must carry a light, extend it away from your body with your other hand. Usually with defense the attacker is coming towards you. If he's moving away, you have a legal problem.” 8:46:09 PM 12/22/05 I have bunches “But this is the one I "made". It's a ruger 10/22 in which I stripped the stock, cut the barrel band part off, carved finger grooves, hogged out a channel for the bull barrel that I got, replaced the hammer and got and adjustable sear: ![]() ![]() ![]() And another one with a longer green mountain barrel on it, the dye job didn't turn out as good but it shoots better. ![]() Of course I've glass bedded the reciver and part of the barrel on both (floating most of the barrel naturally)” 1:42:16 AM 12/23/05 “Sorry, I double posted a pic” 1:43:36 AM 12/23/05 “lots.... i would scare lots of people on here if i named them all off. they are so evil they get up and shoot people on their own!! bad gun.. bad! I dont even have to aim them, they aim just like the guns in hollywood.. its awesome, i can shoot them from the hip and hit 30 people with 30 shots at 300yards! The suppressors COMPLETELY silence the guns too! JUST like in hollywood movies!! its awesome. Nigal the XD is a GREAT handgun. lights on handguns.. i have a few thoughts.. it can be a good thing, and it can also be a curse. If you ARE going to carry a firearm with a light on it, you need to also carry a second light. IDing someone by pointing your weapons mounted light at them is bad juju. You also need to be aware that you are giving away yourself if you arent careful. It takes one night fighting class to realize how often you really accidentally flash your lights. There are a bunch of wrong ways.. there is also a bunch of RIGHT ways to employ a weapons light. I suggest you take a tactical class focused on the use of weapon lights.. it can be the difference in the end. last edited: 12/23/05 4:55:46 AM” 4:50:58 AM 12/23/05 “The light really is just for shlts and grins. The only place I’d be actually using my light in a tactical situation is in my house and I don’t need a light to get around my house as I know it well. As far as lights go this one is a great one. It is small, the weight isn’t enough to throw off my shooting, it’s slim lined and won’t snag on clothing ect, it can be turned on by my right index finger which is already out there anyhow, but most important it allows me to keep both hands on the gun where I can have the most control. I’d use this light or nothing.” 9:30:17 AM 12/23/05 “I actually don't know anyone that can hit 30 people with 30 shots from-the-hip at 300 yards except with special effects & re-takes. Anything over 100 yards is (often in) sniper territory & use a sandbag & cover. Hand guns are average to 25 yards. Most take place 7-21 feet in low light conditions. I've seen gunfights take place inside vehicles with no hits & happy not to have been in the vehicle.” 9:58:18 AM 12/23/05 “margo, your .22 is beautiful. Years ago sass got me a ruger 10/22 with the "international stock" (foregrip all the way to the muzzle). I have an old 3x9x40 optic on it, that thing is a tack pusher. Prolly my fav long gun.” 9:59:51 AM 12/23/05 “I'm thinking of replacing my .22 that I sold with one of the new .17 calibers. Sweet little plinkers.” 10:07:17 AM 12/23/05 “I hope y'all have a gun safe or two to keep your toys in. I trust my kids, and they've all had training, but you never know about the neighbor's kids. Or really, your own kids for that matter until they reach a certain level of maturity. I remember the story about the security guard that worked nights. She came home, locked her carry piece in a small handgun safe, then went to bed for the morning. One of her young sons got her keys, took the gun out of the safe, and shot his little brother in the face. That poor woman is probably still going nuts over that one.” 10:10:48 AM 12/23/05 I know a Navy Seal that.... “....Never mind....LMAO” 10:10:49 AM 12/23/05 “I never have kids in my house but will still buy a lock box for it to protect it from being stolen in a home envasion. But then again, if I'm not home the gun should be with me. LOL!” 10:13:14 AM 12/23/05 “ ![]() ![]() Besides my Star "FireStar" I have this little number: single shot .223 with a tactical 10 scope.” 10:18:31 AM 12/23/05 “Hobbit, I'll ask my gun nut buddy about the Sig. Good price btw.” 10:19:41 AM 12/23/05 “I have a large upright safe that is bolted (with giant lag bolts) to the wall. I need to find a way to secure my handgun but have easy access.” 10:19:41 AM 12/23/05 “Nigal, I have a friend who has what looks like a jewelry box/cigar box by his bed that has three black buttons on the front that is a safe for his colt commander.” 10:21:52 AM 12/23/05 What some people do......... “Just my opinion but, I don't recommend valuables or a safe in the master bedroom. Put the safe or hiding place somewhere else. A handgun safe is probably an exception. Any safe needs to be attached to an immovable object. Most safes can be carried out & opened at leisure. Some like the Simplex button lock boxes. Keys are OK too. Wal-Mart (gasp!) has an aprx 6"h X 12"w x 12"d solid metal 1/4" thick box for $50. 4-sided key is nice. The insulated boxes & safes are better for fire as they encapsulate water & release steam under high heat protecting the contents from X amount of heat for X amount of time. Not too resistant from attack (by even kids). Solid metal safes stand up to attack better but worthless for fire. What some folks do is mount the box under their side of the bed within easy reach of their hand. Many leave it open at night, so as to save time fumbling with buttons or the noise of keys. If you attach your car/house/apart/work keys, it becomes hard not to forget to lock the box in the morning. Safety is the key here as many, many, many shooting accidents occur as opposed to stopping a burglary etc.” 11:01:10 AM 12/23/05 “None ya!” 11:08:43 AM 12/23/05 “You mean you guys don't sleep them under the pillow?” 11:14:19 AM 12/23/05 “Ive got my Remington 870 express 12ga pump chambered for2.75" and 3"mag shells.Packs a decent little wallop but I do walk kinda funny when I carry it concealed! last edited: 12/23/05 11:27:14 AM” 11:18:43 AM 12/23/05 “Most of the time, I don't carry at all although I can in 50 states. Sometimes I do when pressed or intuition strikes.” 11:21:10 AM 12/23/05 “Y2.. my ar dont fit under my pillow that well... so its next to my bed :-D ”11:39:21 AM 12/23/05 “Hmmm roll of TP next to the bed there too.... with the gun....., I know you like guns..... but well.” 11:41:43 AM 12/23/05 “yeah, guns and a runny nose right now.” 11:49:26 AM 12/23/05 “I have to qualify with an AR every year, but what would you use that for in the bedroom? That could go thru walls & hurt family members. Not to mention your neighbor's walls a mile away. You shoot a burglar & your neighbor after it passes, it will prob be some degree of manslaughter. Ever hear a .223 go off inside?” 12:47:34 PM 12/23/05 “Safes are an important thing-we have two, yes, two of them. One is the main one, bolted into the foundation-the other is a small one for handguns. This goes on trips with us, and is for the bedroom at night. It is a fingertip lock. We also drill the kid on gun safety montly. Big thing is let your kids touch your guns-in pretty much takes the fun and forbiddenness out of it. We let him shoot them also-he knows how hard they recoil. Where you get problems is if you make soemthing forbidden. Kids are curious creatures-and like to look. Another we do is have him help when it is cleaning time-that takes all fun out of guns ;-) Part of gun safety is keeping all your ammo locked up also-and not keeping your guns loaded except for the house protection one(s). Teach your children also what to do at other kids houses, if their friends start playing with a gun! Realize that most kids are not taught gun safety. Heck, I rember the ONE time I pointed a pellet gun at my brother-my dad beat me with a leather belt-and I am a female! My dad took it seriously. Now, I don't do that to Ford, but any misbehavior on the range means his gun is stripped and put away for the day, and we stop.” 12:52:34 PM 12/23/05 “Catskhiker...no matter what gun or rifle you choose, you use different ammo for personal defense and for home defense. It stops once it hits target.” 12:54:26 PM 12/23/05 “Two safes? Man what I wouldn't give to play in your gun room for a day! LOL! I have a buddy who's in law enforcment and on the SWAT team. Last time he had to upgrade his safe he went and bought a steel frame and door and just made his whole closet a safe. He's got H&K subguns, Colt sub guns, Russian military guns, just everything under the sun just about.” 12:57:49 PM 12/23/05 “A PGW worker fights back -- shooting and wounding an alleged would-be robber in Southwest Philadelphia. Philadelphia police say three males attempted to rob a uniformed Philadelphia Gas Works employee at gunpoint just before 11:30am Friday morning, near 65th Street and Buist Avenue in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia. Police say the PGW employee -- who had a license to carry the weapon -- turned the tables and pulled his own gun out, shooting one of three would-be robbers in the face.” 12:58:32 PM 12/23/05 “As a true hillbilly, I would have to answer with a "I'm not really sure." I have a lot. Some I shoot for function, like my Weatherby 300 mag or my Savage rifled shotgun. I do have 4 pieces I am particularly proud of 1. A Winchester NRA match Model 52 .22 rifle that my Grandmother bought new and used canoeing the state of NY way back in the day (30's) 2. An authentic AK-47 Polytech legend (If you have to ask what a polytech is, you don't know AK's) 3. An A.H. Fox Sterlingworth,(16 guage double barrel from 1919) given to me by a friend who died shortly after I relocated to the midwest 4. An L.C. Smith 16 guage (1921) side by side given to me by the same friend. I sold two this past year and will buy a .17 cal. this year. I love plinking with high quality .22's and the small stuff. I loved the pics of the Ruger 10/22 and I'm currently trying to decide how I'm going to "trick mine out"” 1:29:35 PM 12/23/05 “.........just got back from Gander Mtn. Bought the .17 package and all the trimmings. Sighting in tomorrow.” 5:04:46 PM 12/23/05 Children and Guns “Teach your children also what to do at other kids houses, if their friends start playing with a gun! Realize that most kids are not taught gun safety. sarbar1 12:52:34 PM 12/23/05 Sorry to say Sarbar1 teaching children what to do about guns at other peoples' houses is ineffective at best. In study after study the children played with and pulled the trigger on guns that they found while playing in a room for the study. Some examples below: Twenty-nine groups of boys (n = 64) took part in the study. The mean age of participants was 9.8 years. Twenty-one of the groups (72%) discovered the handgun (n = 48 boys); 16 groups (76%) handled it (n = 30 boys). One or more members in 10 of the groups (48%) pulled the trigger (n = 16 boys). Approximately half of the 48 boys who found the gun thought that it was a toy or were unsure whether it was real...More than 90% of the boys who handled the gun or pulled the trigger reported that they had previously received some sort of gun safety instruction...Boys who were believed to have a low interest in real guns were as likely to handle the handgun or pull the trigger as boys who were perceived to have a moderate or high interest in guns. http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/107/6/1247 In a randomized control study, 34 children aged 4 to 7 years participated in a week-long firearm safety program; the Control Group was composed of 36 children. After the program, pairs of children were observed playing in a structured setting in which they had access to a semiautomatic pistol. A total of 53% of the pairs played with the gun, and there was no difference in gun-play behavior between those children who did and did not receive the intervention. Interview data revealed significant discrepancies in parent and child reports of parental gun ownership and inaccurate parental predictions of their children's interest in guns. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=11943968 Subjects were 24 pairs of preschool children videotaped for 10 minutes in a structured play setting, in which they had access to a variety of toys and to real and toy guns. One child from each dyad was then exposed to an information-based intervention and told not to play with guns. The children were again videotaped in the same setting approximately 1 week later. Results indicated that the intervention was ineffective in modifying the behavior of the children. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=8856516 last edited: 12/23/05 5:27:54 PM” 5:26:13 PM 12/23/05 “Sorry Tango, that sounds at best like liberal reasoning to ban guns. I am constantly asked when I go to Drs if there are guns in our house..know what? It isn't ANY of their business! I'd hate to know who they are reporting the info to. Trust me, he DOES know the difference between real and fake guns. He has broken down and helped clean enough guns to know the difference. You don't just tell children to not play with them-you show them WHY not to! You want one good way? Show them what happens to water jugs being blown up. Take them shooting with you on a REGULAR basis-have them shoot real guns, so they know what happens when you pull a trigger. Take them to ranges, let them see how everything works. You cannot expect children to understand safety if it isn't explained in detail-at their level. I am open with other parents who bring their kids over that we have guns-and they knwo we have safes. At any house he goes to, I talk to the parents in depth-and find out if they have guns-and if they have safes. I do believe that Ford perfectly understands that if he is somewhere else and sees guns out, he will leave-it is a constant drilling we give him-not just a "once lecture at age 7 and never repeated". It is our responsibility as parents and as adults to do this. It is also our responsibilty to own safes and gun locks they cannot access. Gun ownership is a privilege.” 6:17:35 PM 12/23/05 “I hope it never happens to your family. I've seen tapes of 'many' studies (at least 9) it is a fascination with guns. I've seen what happens in the real world too, it ain't pretty. And my 'liberal butt' holds the parents responsible, but the state of Florida almost always declines to prosecute, they feel the parents have gone through enough. I don't their butts should be sitting in jail for a long long time.” 6:26:45 PM 12/23/05 “Again, my opinion only….. I disagree with Sarbar on 223 ammo stopping with an assailant. Poor weapon/caliber choice for home defense. Poor choice for hunting in a shortened auto AR carbine. Good choice for killing without worry of backstop or additional casualties. Good choice for war. Good assault weapon. 90% of people that start firing an auto weapon under severe conditions continue to fire until they run out of ammo. The standard AR clip holds 20 rounds. Most people will shoot all 20 rounds under those conditions. You OWN every round. So whatever damage they do, YOU are responsible for. Whether you accidentally kill your kids in the next room, neighbors in the next house or passers-by on the street. Shooting (or attempting to shoot) a burglar etc will NOT exonerate you from criminal/civil liability. Probably a manslaughter charge or at the very least reckless endangerment. (felonies) Why risk this? I agree with her wholly on safety gun instruction for children & it's effectiveness.” 7:14:20 PM 12/23/05 “Don't worry catsk, we don't use our AR for home defense ;-) The Sigg 45 is for that! Also, we don't keep our AR loaded except for when we go shooting with it.” 8:16:34 PM 12/23/05 “And Sarbar- I don't want to ban guns (sorry I didn't read that earlier) nor do I condone the alarmist tactics some use to try to scare people into this mindset. Here is my baby=> ![]() last edited: 12/23/05 8:29:41 PM” 8:28:03 PM 12/23/05 Jump to Page << prev
