I normally don’t go into this facet of the NRA platform but what happened in New York is a clear indication of how registering your guns gives the government the information they need to take gun control from responsibility to confiscation.”

While I have authored a law review article, lectured, and written published articles
on the subject, keep in mind that some Illinois anti-gun attitudes have resulted in a disturbing amount of llegal arrests of citizens transporting firearms when in fact no violation happened. One article last year was concerned specifically with this problem, and I can email it to you next week if you want. The point being, that legally being in compliance with the law is no immunity from an illegal arrest where the police and prosecutors cannot follow the complexity of the laws.”

Tree, I wouldn't call you paranoid for that. When it coems to our freedoms we should be skepical of the government. It has given us plenty of reasons in the past to be skeptical. And this should also include the ownership of guns and the protection of those rights.

This is why I limited my quotes to politicians and policy makers. These are the people who are actually introducing the legislation. The fact that some even come right out and say that this is just a starting point and their end goal is abolition also makes a strong point as to why some gun owners are resistant to give the inch that will turn into the mile.

San Francisco has passed Prop H which would make all handguns illegal. Washington DC already has it as well as your own NYC IIRC. Would you consider it a set back if these cities made abortion illegal? At what point do we stop and stand up for those who have lost their rights? “I've always been a "plinker" as well as a hunter, but I think every guy's first love of shooting and hunting is getting his first .22. I was 5 when I got mine handed down to me and was taught correctly by my Dad. I've always kept a big part of the love for rimfires throughout my life.
