It'd be hard to pick out the best one from that bunch but I'd have a hard time saying the H&K USP isn't the best one of the bunch.” 6:20:16 PM 6/29/06 “Bang, bang , shooeooot, shoot.” 8:49:51 PM 6/29/06 “[i]“No 1911? It'd be hard to pick out the best one from that bunch but I'd have a hard time saying the H&K USP isn't the best one of the bunch.”[i] the para is 1911 clone. springfield might have multiple entries, i have not read article yet. but they have 1911 clones as well as the XD45...which i might add.. is very nice.” 9:58:42 PM 6/29/06 “Nigal,YOU'RE AMAZING! Gotta agree, the USP Tactical is one of my favorites. I have an AAC EVOLUTION-45 suppressor for mine. But I'm more of a Sig fan. I guess it has to do with familiarity and comfort level. You can’t go wrong with a Kimber. Did I ever tell you that you’ve got classy taste in weapons? I’ve got an older P226, but I’ve mostly been practicing with my Sig P229 Crimson Trace. I find the laser sight useful. After all, most self-defense occurs within a 6-ft. radius. And if you’re shooting someone at 25yds, it’s awfully hard to defend in court. The Sig fits nicely into my Galco Royal Guard for CCW. I’ve got the draw down to where I’m reasonably comfortable with my speed and accuracy. I’m also thinking about a Springfield XD. I've read a bunch, but what are your personal thoughts on GAP vs. ACP?” 5:13:35 AM 6/30/06 “Damn son you got some nice guns there. I’d love to get a Galco inside the waistband holster eventually but I have a $13 Uncle Mikes right now. I think any one of these choices would be a good one. I’d love a USP but if I get a 45 I want a single stack compact for carriability. My buddy has a Springfield compact custom he let me shoot and except for the increased pressure the recoil was no more than my XD 40. Very sweet. I really like the XD and I got pretty efficient with it. I haven’t shot the gap yet but I personally want the 45 simply for the variety of ammo and my buddy has a reloader that I can use to make some good hot loads. I think when it comes down between the 40,45 ACP and the GAP it's pretty much apples to apples because they all perform.” 6:42:37 AM 6/30/06 “I think when it comes down between the 40,45 ACP and the GAP it's pretty much apples to apples because they all perform.” Nigal That is what I have heard about the GAP too, really the only difference is it is able to fit in a smaller grip frame. So if you have small hands it makes sense, but not much purpose otherwise. I think the USP has got the competition beat from the get go here, but Uncle Sam probably isn't gonna bet too happy about the price. Next I would guess will be the XD, then the glock, or maybe the new Smith M&P. True the Para's are knock off 1911's but the LDA's are a long way from John M. Brownings trigger set up. Some of the requirements are that the gun can be set up w or w/o a manual external safety, and must be supressor ready. Also they must have a capacity of at least 10, and preferably 12 or more. It also must not be a developmental gun. It has to be something already in production. That kills you standard 1911. It also puts the USP right up front and center. IMHO.” 7:02:45 AM 6/30/06 ““ That is what I have heard about the GAP too, really the only difference is it is able to fit in a smaller grip frame. So if you have small hands it makes sense, but not much purpose otherwise.” Speaking for the XD their 45 is so close to the same size as the rest of their XDs that unless you hold it up right next to one you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference size wise. Amazingly the 45 actually hold two more rounds than the 40. WTF? I wonder if the safety on the XD will rule it out as it has no external manual safety. Same for the Glock but the XD has double safeties because it has the Browning grip safety of the 1911 as well as the Glock trigger safety. I know the Glock is a big favorite among soldiers who can carry their own issued pistol.” 7:23:48 AM 6/30/06 “The author of the Rifleman article where I saw this was speculating that Glock might try to convince them that the trigger qualifies as an external safety. They may also modify it to have a regular safety. I forgot, I think that they said it must be able to fire DA/SA. Some pretty tough criteria any way you look at it, but if you have ever read any of those Gov't Contractor bid forms, some of the specs are rediculous, contradictive, and down right impossible. Oh, it also has to be coated w. a non glare, earth color finish. Again the USP is right there. The models w. safeties are for standard issue, and the ones w/o are for special forces etc.” 7:49:03 AM 6/30/06 “Nigal, I’ll bet that XD 40 is sweet. I thought about the XD 40. The only thing is, my regular carry pistol (P229) is a 9 (cheaper practice ammo). I haven’t experimented with any of the frangibles, but I’ve shot a lot of different JHP. The Speer Gold Dot and Hornady Tap have reasonable stopping power. Because of my familiarity with Sigs, I’m thinking about getting the P229-40 Crimson Trace. That would become my sidearm. I’m telling you, that Crimson Trace is great for close range and low light. I’m thinking about the Springfield in 45. I don’t currently use GAP. My USP uses ACP and it doesn’t beat me to death. I find the ACP very controllable for rapid fire. I always ask about the experience of others. That Galco is sweet. I also have a custom ITW from a guy out of Canada (I don’t remember his name offhand). It’s a good one, but that Galco is really nice for production leather. It has good stability, a smooth draw, and it’s very comfortable. Has anyone else ever checked out the Steyr M-A1? It’s comfortable, accurate, and controllable. It’s on my wish list.” 10:52:48 AM 6/30/06 “ ![]() Dayum! Looks like something out of a si-fi movie. I had never even heard of them. The only Steyer I had seen before was the Aug. That Crimson Trace looks sweet. I like how it's right in the grip and there's no lazer out front on the rail. I'm thinking of getting a light for my gun.” 11:06:58 AM 6/30/06 “That baby really gets the web of your hand up to the barrel axis dont it? Wow. Is it avail. in .45? probably just 9 & .40. I would still like to give it a try. Is that the bottom of the magazine on the front corner of the grip?” 12:36:06 PM 6/30/06 “They finally figured out that a bad guy can still get up and shoot you after being plugged w. a 9mm. I wonder if that's because they're shooting ball. From everything I've read, modern JHP 9mm is a suitable stopper. Of course, handguns in general suck at stopping, and shot placement is key, even with the larger calibers. Well, it's what I use because I can afford to shoot twice as much than a .45. And I tend to shoot a lot.” 1:39:36 PM 6/30/06 “Yessir folks, I’ve shot one and they are very sweet. It’s reasonably priced too. I think it’s in the Glock range ($500-$600). The safety system is similar to the Glock. It fits me better than a Glock. I’ve seen them at gun shows. I don't believe that's the magazine, meangreen; at least not that I remember. You’re absolutely right about those other observations. It nestles nicely in my web, the grip isn’t quite as ergonomic as my Sig (what is?) but it’s close, and it positions your wrist very closely to the barrel axis. Supposedly, it’s highly rated for reliability and accuracy. I recently read this article about Steyr: http://newsblaze.com/story/20060626174729payn.nb/newsblaze/OPINIONS/Opinions.html Drug smugglers……RIIIIIIIIIGHT” 2:45:51 PM 6/30/06 “These are all excelent points Mutt, and a good argument for the 9mm. A 9mm hole through your ticker is going to kill you graveyard dead, while a .45 to the intestines is just going to make you hurt and bleed. I carry a .45 based on this equation: larger caliber = larger hole = more blood out, and more air in If you can control it go for the big bore for personal defense. That said, I do recognize the fact that every gun, and caliber has it's application. I am looking at the little Taurus TI 38's and the Walther right now because concealment sucks for my Springfield in the summer. It's an ultra compact, but it's still big, and heavy compared to a lot of others. If it actually comes down to using it, any gun is better than no gun. Also this isn't quite "apples to apples" here either. We are talking about combat situations in war zones, against trained assailants. For civilian carry, your attacker is most likely not going to be so willing to charge into a gun after they have already taken one hit from it.” 3:00:39 PM 6/30/06 “I will have one less as of today. Finally sold my Rem 700 ADL deluxe in 30.06. Cant shoot it anymore, plus its way too much gun for whitetail. Gonna get a Ruger mini-14 ranch as my new deer slayer.” 3:28:58 PM 6/30/06 “Birch, I have one in Stainless! fun little rifle! You'll enjoy it.” 3:52:26 PM 6/30/06 “meangreen, I just swung by my local gunshop and found a really nice used one with sidemount scoperail for a great price. I snatched it up and a matching silver 3x9x40 set of optics. The mounts will be in next week. Also got a new case. I will be stripping the wood and redoing asap. I cant wait to go to the range!” 4:40:41 PM 6/30/06 “I have the same size scope on mine, but i am using the Ruger rings. If you reload your own, you may want to see if a gun smith can "de-beef" the ejector a little. Mine kicks em out so hard the casings actually spin around and hit the side of the reciever, and folds in about 1/3 of the neck of the casing. Look on the right side if your reciever to see if it has a bunch of little sliver moon shaped marks. This is caused from the spent cases doing a 180 as soon as they come out. You will know what I mean after you shoot it a little, that is if yours does it. Mine is terrible about it. Probably 1 in 3 or 4 shots it ruins the brass.” 5:00:34 PM 6/30/06 “I dont reload yet...but will inevitably start someday.” 5:47:38 PM 6/30/06 “Just make sure you have good safety glasses on when you are at the range. I dont know about your length of pull, but my face is not very far from there. I would seriously hate to catch one in the eye. Other than that, have FUN there is all most as much stuff to modify it as there is for the 10/22!” 5:54:58 PM 6/30/06 “I always where the shooting glasses just to be sure. I was just checking out some of the modifications available. Amazing stuff. Only thing I'd like to do besides refinish the stock is one getting a 1" barrel from receiver to muzzle and a synthetic stock for use in bad weather. No rush though, heck I havent even loaded it yet.LOL” 6:19:15 PM 6/30/06 “Two pin nailers, two 2/1/2 finish, and 3 framers , two staplers and a P-38. The p-38 won WW2 after our troups got enough from dead Germans.” 8:10:02 PM 6/30/06 “guns dont kill people... impotent rednecks with fetishistic obsessions with noisy, dangerous phallic objects kill people... :-P” 8:15:38 PM 6/30/06 “Guns don't kill people. Husbands who come home early kill people.” 8:32:48 PM 6/30/06 “Yes Crash we can't all be the man that you are...living with Mommy and beating off to internet porn and trying to get date on Cupid.com. last edited: 7/01/06 8:17:52 AM” 8:15:02 AM 7/01/06 “you got that backwards, nigey-p00. i was beatin off to pictures of your mom i got off the internet. as far as that fat little bastard with wings, doesnt he have a production of "rent" to go see? matt, please ban us” 8:35:59 AM 7/01/06 “Only thing I'd like to do besides refinish the stock is one getting a 1" barrel from receiver to muzzle and a synthetic stock for use in bad weather. No rush though, heck I havent even loaded it yet.LOL” birch What?!!! A bull barrel for a mini-14? How does that work with the action? Would have thought it would be in the way? I gotta check that out! COOL! Two pin nailers, two 2/1/2 finish, and 3 framers , two staplers and a P-38. The p-38 won WW2 after our troups got enough from dead Germans.” salebored Huh?” 9:25:01 AM 7/01/06 “everybody says "huh" after a salebored post. hes the salvador dali of TT” 11:24:30 AM 7/01/06 “meangreen, I am not sure on the specifics of the bull barrel. I read about the modifications last night. I will post a link if I find it. I bet that with the heavy barrel the mini will push tacks at 2ooyds.I may get a lighter trigger if the stock one is stiff. wow, that was easy...http://www.accuracysystemsinc.com/ scroll down for pics etc. last edited: 7/01/06 2:40:37 PM” 2:34:45 PM 7/01/06 “They have an incredibly simple trigger assy. Very few parts. So that should be easy to to install yourself. The only mods I ever made on mine were a synthetic stock, and flash supressor. I wanted to hunt coyotes at night w. it originally.I don't have the time or places to go anymore though. Another tip: If you buy aftermarket mags for it stay away from the ones from places like sportsmans guide. (USA Brand I think.) They will jam about every other round. Total CRAP! If anyone here has a brand they are happy with please let me know about that too.” 3:18:03 PM 7/01/06 “"i was beatin off to pictures of your mom i got off the internet. as far as that fat little bastard with wings, doesnt he have a production of "rent" to go see?" I see my mom has your credit card number now then. LOL! Rent? Gawd, that's gayer than a English degree.” 3:27:07 PM 7/01/06 “Cool link Birch! If you put a compensator (or anythink else for that matter) on your barrel be prepared for an increase in noise. My mini is louder than the Garand! We're talkin cannon! My suppressor is about 3" long with slots cut in paralell w the barrel. Looks good, but very noisy.” 3:59:47 PM 7/01/06 “"My mini is louder than the Garand! We're talkin cannon!" I dont think i'll go that route. Sounds invigorating.LOL” 8:10:29 AM 7/02/06 “now that im in AZ i can get one of these finally.. not that much really. usually 15-30k depending on the piece plus a $200 destructive device tax stamp. ”1:07:23 AM 7/03/06 “IN COMING!!” 7:48:46 AM 7/03/06 “Phils Son...the arty piece on the right looks like an old 37mm Antitank gun..... The bravest men in the world fired that in WWII, yep you would take aim on a Panther or Tiger and pull the lanyard...the gun would go BOOM....then you would hear the PWIIIING of the shell ricocheting off the turret. Then you had the total undivided attention of every German turret on the battle field. (LOL) Crash...as a service I attach the following video...maybe MOM can get some help with this. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1575/cum_remover last edited: 7/03/06 8:06:14 AM” 8:00:50 AM 7/03/06 “that is correct.. far right is a 20mm lhati, then 37mm, the left is a 75mm pack howtizer.” 12:12:12 PM 7/03/06 “That's going to be a biitch to try and lug up into a treestand.” 12:22:37 PM 7/03/06 “...Gawd, that's gayer than a English degree.” Nigal 3:27:07 PM 7/01/06 Now Nigal, that was just plain harsh. ;-) I still want a Glock 9mm. Don't own one yet, but have shot then several times. It's one of the few handguns I can shoot well and hit where I'm aiming. One quirk with a Glock a friend of mine had, was it would eject the shell right over my head. One time a hot shell dropped right into my collar and burned the crap out of my neck. LOL” 12:46:00 PM 7/03/06 “You had crap in your neck? EEEWWWW!” 5:24:09 PM 7/03/06 “I think he said he CRAPS out of his neck...technically Hillary and most lefties do that (LOL)... Stove, in the 1980's I was working with a Marine Corps unit (during my college years) we were practicing some operation and the Machine Gunner falls in a hole and breaks his ankle. I look at some PFC and told him to pick up the gun and crank it. He picks it up LEFT HANDED....and proceeds to put 30 rounds of hot brass down the front of his Tunic.” 7:48:12 PM 7/03/06 “LOL Poor guy. When the hot shell went into my collar my buddies comment was "Who said white men can't dance?"” 7:56:36 PM 7/03/06 “My S@W 40 kicks rounds out.....LOL I have had people jumping at the range” 8:03:05 PM 7/03/06 “Gee, son...nice pics!” 1:56:13 AM 7/04/06 “thanks dad! how was your trip?” 3:00:29 AM 7/04/06 “Salvador Dali ? Well, not quite. Simply Saleboard sounds about right.” 7:26:25 AM 7/04/06 “son - Had a nice trip overall. You would love your Uncle Ron's garage now...TIG welders with assortment of inert gases, arc welder, oxy-acetylene. Huge compressor. Also mill, lathe, and a hot tub. I drove around in his 48 Willys Jeep! Cool! Lots of other stuff. He is into antique engines.” 2:18:55 AM 7/05/06 “made it to the range with my .45 today. Its shoots nice, no jams (150rds today) and my accuracy is improving. It is gonna take some time getting used to the glock trigger, I dont dislike it. Just unaccustomed. Anyone ever use "wolf" brand ammo. I know its made in eastern europe but other than that...I cant shoot wolf brand at the pistol range (dont know why but will ask next time). I am looking for some inexpensive .223 ammo and wolf is the leader by far.” 5:18:37 PM 7/05/06 “HEY BIRCH!!!!! That link you posted here specifically said NOT to used Wolf ammo, or other russian import junk because the primers are too hard, and will break you firing pin. You could go Mil surplus if you don't mind spending some extra time cleaning afterwords as long as it is just for practice, and plinking. The bullets are too light (55gr)for hunting, and FMJ's of that caliber won't do enough damage to drop a deer. That said, I have used them in my own mini for punchin paper, and they are ok.” 10:55:03 AM 7/06/06 “"You could go Mil surplus if you don't mind spending some extra time cleaning afterwords as long as it is just for practice, and plinking." The best surplus ammo to use is South African mil surplus. It is the second best military ammo you can get. They bought all their machinery from Israel who makes the best ammo. It's high quality and clean.” 11:22:18 AM 7/06/06 Jump to Page << prev
