I can see how laying down a lot of fire can cause confusion and fear in an enemy force because it puts a lot of lead downrange. For civilian use though where range is a lot shorter you could put as much lead downrange with a good combat shotgun than an auto. It may not be as effective but it's still a l;ot of lead.

Sure, you can get a license for full auto, but not in every state. And the $200 tax for each full auto firearm is a bit excessive IMO. Anyway, I don't really care about having full auto, just trying to make a point about how the Court's precendent in that case, if used today, would argue for the acceptance of arms that would make the anti-gun faction have conniptions.

As much as we try to be a country of laws, and to make laws that apply equally to all, there is much personal opinion in court decisions. Everyone has their own bias. It cannot be kept out of human decision making. Leftists don’t even try to keep their emotions out of their decision making.

I agree, I think a number of these issues should go before the Supreme Court. I cannot even imagine what kind of legal advice the city of San Fran was getting when they decided to try to ban all weapons.

And on one of my favorite subjects, I think the press showed a total lack of responsibility when they didn’t have better coverage of the illegal confiscation in Louisiana. A HUGE percentage of the population would have been better served by information about that criminal act.

The laws in NY are unclear to me. It appears as if you can't even transport a sidearm through the state if you don't reside there; even if it’s locked, even if it’s locked in a case, even if it’s locked in storage, and even if the ammunition is locked separately in a separate storage location. Does anyone have better information about this?

Man, you read some of this stuff and you wonder what planet lawyers are from. There's a lot of time and money spent translating from lawyer-speak to English. And it's still often vague.

It would be interesting to know how much lawyers cost this country due to the over complication of the legal system which was caused by the lawyers themselves. Oh sure I know the litany of catch phrases; they aren’t all bad, they are hated until ya need one then everyone loves them, blah, blah, blah. The more I read the more I find that the lawyers are one of the biggest perpetuators of the loss of freedoms in this country then just about anything else including the politicians (which are highly populated by lawyers).

[insert your favorite lawyer joke here.]

I spent the weekend in a non carry state and was surprised to feel quite naked without my gun on my hip.

Anyone have a knowledgeable opinion on the value of a Wather PP 7.65mm? My father in-law has asked me to sell/dispose of it. Someone near and dear has offered to buy it but we are trying to determine a fair value. Its in decent shape, has holster, extra clip, grips look the color of oak.
s/n 380xxx I don't know the vintage. I don't know the last time it was fired.

It would depend upon what era Walther it is. Pre/during WWII, post WWII-1986 or newer. If you know it's old and it doesn't say "Manurhin" or made in France then it is a WWII era or earlier. Walther's factory fell inside the Soviet half od Berlin and he escaped and set up a licencing agreement with Manurhin in France to make the PP until 1986.

Just from looking around if it's in excelent shape it could fetch $300-$500.

In answer to your training post of a few days ago Nigal I have been trained that way since around '94. I've had some pretty in depth high quality training in the handgun department and that is the standard for serious condition black shooting.

Sorry, Nigal, I cannot find the magazine I was looking for. I do, however, have this magazine:

http://www.kahr.com/review_chg0506.html

It's not a Kimber, but it looks like a reasonable option.

I've also been looking at the HK P2000 SK. What I'm really looking for is a good ankle pistol. Beretta's Tomcat would be a good size, but I would like more than a 32.

That's a sweet looking gun. I've been looking at the Para Ord compacts. They are small and on the lower end of gawd-awful-excpencive.

"I've also been looking at the HK P2000 SK. What I'm really looking for is a good ankle pistol. Beretta's Tomcat would be a good size, but I would like more than a 32.”

Two pocket pistols I keep hearing about is the Bersa and the Keltec 9. I think DDX has the Keltec. I don't like anything smaller than a 9.

I’d love to have an M4 but they are not cheap (by my standards anyway).

I’m blessed to have a neighbor who has no kids at home, makes a lot of money and has a gun fetish. He buys all types of guns and lets me shoot them. He got the Springfield M-14 and the Grande(SP?) in 308. Both are sweet. My cousin who got back from Afghanistan where he was a Marine sniper used the M-14.

The P3AT is nice too if you want small and light.

in an old NRA mag I had there was an article about the ideal caliber for one shot knock downs. they didny use ballistic charts or gelatin or the old strassberg (SP?) goat tests. They used police crime data, the pistol that won shocked me, the humble .380 I wish I had that article still.

Maybe it was because the .380 was so widely used?

It probably also goes to show that accuracy is your best defense.

Any suggestions on .380 backup pistols?

Nothing wrong with a .380 in your pocket. The best gun to have in a fight is the one in your hand. If you can hit with it, you have a pretty good chance of getting out.
I still like my 1911 when I can conceal it though.

Walk softly and carry a big bore!

SeeCamp is the Rolls Royce of small caliber handguns...and that fact makes the Kel-Tec brand of pistol a threat....do you notice how defensive the advertising for SeeCamp gets over comparisons with Kel-Tec?

I read a rifleman article on the seecamp a few years back, and they were running a backorder of one year! They gave it an excelent review though. With that laser on it, it would look like a wallet in your back pocket though. Pretty cool. I don't know about the functionality though. I don't usually think of that kind of gun being used for anything far enough away to need any sights, especially a laser.

Yep but...
Given the short barrel of most hideout guns, and the lack of training in their use by the general population, having a laser to pinpoint the point of impact can be a very good thing, considering the damage stray rounds can cause.

the (relatively) new P3AT is supposed to be a great little pocket gun. Personally, I love my Springfield XD .40 SubCompact, but it is a little heavy for hiking. The P3AT is dinky and lightweight; I think it's going to be the 3rd next gun I buy, behind a Ruger MKIII .22 & some type of 1911. Yay for guns!

I have been on the search for the perfect trail gun. I am thinking that a .32H&R magnum in a aluminum/titanium/scandium revolver with a 3" or 4" barrel would be perfect.. I think taurus has them in Ti with 4" barrels. .32hrmag is about equivalent to a 158gr .38spl but you get one more shot with the ultra light.

"Personally, I love my Springfield XD .40 SubCompact, but it is a little heavy for hiking."

I'm seriousely kicking myself in the ass for not getting my XD 40 in subcompact. I've got my holster broken in now so it is pretty comfortable when sitting down. I can't shoot the little pocket guns. My dickbeaters are just too big for them. I handled a ParaOrd compact 45 and even that thing was too small.

I never really thought about carrying on the trail.

meangreen, a laser is particularly relevant at close quarters. You don't always have time to aim, so you follow the bouncing red dot.

Lasers make the most sense at close quarters.

I've been away from TT for awhile but recently realized how much I missed it. This seemed like a good thread to jump in on!!!

I used to be terribly afraid of guns but I'm over coming that. In fact I'm thinking of gettng my concealed weapons permitt. The hubby is always suprised when I suggest we go to the range.

I'm about as good with the makes and all as I am with cars but I think we have have a Keltec 22 and 380...and then a bigger something or other ...I don't like it at all.
