I love hunting but just don't find it entertaining to watch vids of guys shooting animals. And what's with all the Arabs? Don't get me wrong, nothin' I love more than seeing an Arab Muslim getting knocked on his ass. There were few in there of little guys shooting and their ear muffs and head scarf got blown off and they fall down saying, "a jida mahuna sacka lock em la haye jihad!". I cringed when the one Arab shot the $15,000 Weatherby Mag and it fell to the concrete.” 8:42:33 AM 5/26/05 ““nigal, what do you expect from the land where golf was illegal for a long time b/c they were afraid it would take away from peoples shooting practice time” Here’s a worthless fact I learned about stupid laws recently. Do you know what the dome part of Thomas Jefferson’s house, Monticello, is? It is a secret room where he kept a billiard table which was illegal for years in the US. [in my best Paul Havey voice] And now you know……..the REST of the story!” 8:45:23 AM 5/26/05 “Yeah, the hunting end of the videos were pointless, but then, I'm not into hunting. I grew up around target rifles and never hunted much. The guys getting thrown into that back wall by the rifle is hilarious.” 8:47:47 AM 5/26/05 “in my town it's illegal to put pants on a chicken” 9:00:54 AM 5/26/05 “How about putting a chicken in your pants?” 9:05:40 AM 5/26/05 “You Amish do some awful funny things for amusement...” 9:07:32 AM 5/26/05 “Hey, ya gotta do something when ya got tv.” 9:09:36 AM 5/26/05 ““How about putting a chicken in your pants?” Nigal 10:05:40 AM 5/26/05 ignore this user Nigal meets a cop. ”9:15:56 AM 5/26/05 “We own a 12 ga. pump, a 12 ga. auto, a 30-30, and a pistol. They're all locked in a safe at my folks' house, 'cause I also have 4 teenagers at home, and you never know what they'll do...” 10:43:31 AM 5/26/05 “Actually, I think the STG was a model 43 and, yes, the Kalashnikov was modelled on it c/w a shortened version of the 7,62X54 (7,62X39) modelled on the shortened 7,9JX39 that was used on the STG and LWG 43 (Landwehrgewehr) on which the Simonov (SKS) was based. There was also the G3 that used ball bearings for lugs of which the modern version is the Spanish CETME. Heym makes a straight-pull bolt rifle using the same lock-up system. The American M60 machine gun (also the FN MAG - Fabrique nationale [Herstal, Belgium], mitrailleuse automatique générale used by most of NATO) was based on the MG42 which was based on the MG34. They also brought out the FJG (Fallschschimjägergewehr [paratrooper]) 42 using the same system as the MG42, but with a clip magazine and retractable stock. Not mush new since WWII. And, yes, per capita Canadians own about 10 times more guns. last edited: 5/26/05 11:59:32 AM” 11:58:26 AM 5/26/05 “Well damn, once you get past "It goes bang real good!" what more do you need?” 12:01:27 PM 5/26/05 “...Never heard of the Landwehrgewehr. I thought the SKS was based on Simonov's earlier designs, the PTRS self-loading anti-tank rifle and subsequently the SKS 41 using the 7.62x54r, maybe even the ill-fated AVS36 (Avtomaticheskaya Vintovka Sistemi) which lost out in head to head competition with the Tokarev SVT38 / SVT40. last edited: 5/26/05 7:58:44 PM” 7:49:21 PM 5/26/05 “The Soviets developped some good but slightly weird weapons. I think they were limited by the rimmed 7,62X54 and ought to have produced a rimless 7,62X39. Who knows, maybe the Germans copied some Soviet designs when they occupied whatever factories that were not moved behind the Urals? I've fired the Tokarev - a lot of them were converted to .303 British and they were popular round here. When I learned a little more about guns I started to ask myself if the bores were 308 and just re-chambered and firing a .311 bullet. I guess the actons were strong enough.” 8:02:53 AM 5/27/05 “I just ordered a new hunting rifle for my sons graduation gift. Getting him a Weatherby Vanguard in .270 caliber. Nice package deal with a scope, sling and a hard case.” 8:09:39 AM 5/27/05 “My grandad bought several pre-war Mauser actions and later built a 30-06, 270, 243, and 22-250. The stocks were hand carved. The 30-06 has a double heavy barrel and double trigger. It's made from persimmon wood and is yellow. Very nice. My dad's name is Cannon. We were at the range one day and a friend shot it a few times. Afterwards he said, thanks for letting me shoot your cannon, Cannon.” 8:28:06 AM 5/27/05 “Does anyone remember Fajen and Bishops stocks? Fajen only sells wooden stocks for surplus Mausers now. I re-stocked my Savage M99 with a Falen stock. Does anyone know of a company that sells DIY wooden stocks?” 8:31:11 AM 5/27/05 “I don't. These stocks were built in the 50's.” 8:32:31 AM 5/27/05 “Gremlin, the Soviets deliberately designed all rifles for the same ammunition for logistic reasons, use the ammo in any gun. Germans had too many different firearm / ammo types and it caused a lot of distribution problems. Sort of like the japanese developed a lot of hopper fed machine guns. No belts needed, super fast reloading just dump the ammo in the hopper. But when they got in the jungle and it was raining twigs and leaves from enemy (us) fire, the crap jammed them all. Some ideas work better in a lab than in the field. Brits designed the sten (year I know it is a piece of crap, I was trained on them as a teenager) to accept ANY german 9mm, but the sten ammo would not fit any known German firearm.” 8:49:45 AM 5/27/05 “Darn Germans! Well I hoped they learned!” 8:52:01 AM 5/27/05 “Now the Belgians are leading the small arms race as far as manufacture is concerned. They make the M240, the SAW and the main guns for the British, German and American Main Battle Tanks. Plus a multitudinous array of battle rifles.” 9:53:06 AM 5/27/05 Gremlin quote “Actually, I think the STG was a model 43 and, yes, the Kalashnikov was modelled on it c/w a shortened version of the 7,62X54 (7,62X39) modelled on the shortened 7,9JX39 that was used on the STG and LWG 43 (Landwehrgewehr) on which the Simonov (SKS) was based. The site I linked to said the StG had several designations: the MP43, the MP44, and the StG44. The story is that Hitler had forbid the development of any more rifles. So German armament people developed the world's first assault rifle on the sly and gave it the deceptive "machine pistol" MP designation. Hitler was on the Eastern front somewhere and he asked some soldiers what the troops needed and one of the soldiers told him "Send us some more of those wonderful MP43s." When Hitler checked into it he realized what had happend but that the rifle was a good weapon. With his blessings more were produced under the correct StG designation. You are right about the MG34 and MG42. MG43 is incorrect. As I recall the MG34 had a cyclic rate of about 700 rounds per minute and the MG42 had a rate of about 1200. It sounded so different from the MG34 that the US Army made a training film about it so that the troops getting ready to invade France would know what weapon they were facing. A collegue at work was in the Army during the early 70s and he was assigned to work with German army personnel at an armory. Many of the Germans were in their 50s and 60s and had been in WWII. The Germans loved the designs of Browning and had a special affinity for the BAR. My friend got to examine many of the old German weapons. He also serviced the American machine guns too. He told me that there were many problems with the early version of our M-60 so the solution was to go back and make the M-60 even more like the MG42! last edited: 5/27/05 11:04:45 AM” 11:01:09 AM 5/27/05 “The U.S. had the same attitude as the Soviets about using common ammo amongst firearms. John Garand's original development of the M1 centered around a then new .276 cartridge, but was directed to develop a .30 cal model because the U.S. had such a large cache of .30-06 leftover from WWI and used in Springfield '03s, 1917 Enfields, and the 1918 BAR (BARs and Springfields (thru '43) still produced through WWII).” 5:54:55 PM 5/27/05 “Our rights to own GUNS !!!! YES. I have many and I use them legally. I use them at work. Every American should have a weapon. And if you did not want one, go to another country. Your free because of God, Guns, Guts and Backpackers. Yep I'm the frige, and Free American. Thank you who have fought for my freedom against the past aggressions whom wanted to rule with no freedom. Leave us if you don't like Freedom.” 6:21:10 PM 5/27/05 “I own enough for my needs, and it has long been a hobby of mine, I hate buying meat when I've got plenty at hand for the taking. I own guns, and bows, and build them too,, nothing like using your own workmanship,, and for those who scoff at muzzleloading accuracy, read up a bit on a gent by the name of Pope who made ONLY muzzleloading guns, and a bit more about American Civil War snipers,, one shot a confederate officer off his horse at just over a mile.” 8:01:19 PM 5/27/05 “Every American should have a weapon. And if you did not want one, go to another country. i dont want one, and im not leaving the country. i dont want your god, either. at least not your version of her.” 8:18:32 PM 5/27/05 “Guns? I lost them all in a tragic boating accident. ![]() the mp5 belongs to an aquantance of mine. Chicks dig pink guns.(no joke) :-D ![]() ^inertia(bump)firing is fun!” 6:13:55 AM 5/29/05 Phil"s son “Gosh what a coincidence! The same thing happened to me one day while hauling my guns to a beach vacation in the Bahamas. Damn Burmuda Triangle swallows everything.” 7:19:00 AM 5/29/05 “SH, I think you found some bogus info. The MP42, also known as the Scmeisser is a trus Machinenpistole, that is a fully automatic, hand held weapon that fires a pitol round (9mm), assault (Sturmgewehr rifles generally (if based on Geman/Soviet development) use a shortened rifle cartridge (7,62X39 insted od 7'62X54 in the case of the Russians and 7,9JX39 instead of 7,9JX57 in the case of the Germans). The American innovation was the Armalite series developped by Eugene Stoner (who died a couple of year4s ago) NO, I lie The development of a sub caliber was British with the experimental E-7. I believe it was a 6mm. Storner developped the 5,56 (commercialised as the .223 Rem) to be more well rounded and adaptable to Squad LMG's.” 10:00:44 AM 5/30/05 “Marlin model 9 - 9mm carbine Remington 870 pump shotgun 12 Ga. I said it was classified as MP43 and MP44. The reason it was falsely classified Machinenpistole(MP) was to deceive Hitler. It was an assault rifle from day one. The Germans knew and still know how to design and build good stuff. If you want to see just how far along in aircraft design they were at the end of WWII check out this site. http://www.luft46.com/ Pay particular attention to this plane, the Horton Ho 229.. http://www.luft46.com/mrart/mr229-1.jpg http://www.luft46.com/duart/du229.jpg Does it remind you of anything the USAF is flying these days? It came about because Hitler wanted a plane with a 1000 km range that could deliver a 1000 Kg bomb on London and evade radar. As you can see it has inboard engines. The skin was built out of plywood with a radar absorbing coating. This plane actually made it into operation at the end of the war but not enough of them were built to make any difference. One of these planes was kept at Langley in Virginia under Top Secret classification until about 1985. Also look at the Fo cke Wulf TA-183 and compare it to the MiG-15 and the F-86 Super Sabre. http://www.luft46.com/mrart/mr183-3.jpg Or wonder where we came up with the wing and fuselage design of our B-52? The Brits also used the same inboard engine design on their ill-fated Comet commercial airliner. http://www.luft46.com/mrart/mr132-2.jpg Now some of the planes on this site were in the early stages of development but others were on their way to production and operation, hence the site name, Luft 46. This is what the Luftwaffe might have looked like if the war had lasted another year. The Germans were even dreaming of a space plane that would skip across the stratosphere (50Km up!) and bomb New York and Washington. last edited: 5/30/05 8:03:32 PM” 8:00:56 PM 5/30/05 “Wow, SH, kühl sites! I wasn't familiar with the Stg43,but it looks like a clone of the short action FN FAL. The Canadian army used the long action FAL in 7,62 for years. Actually, the FAL would be a clone of the Stg. There was also the G3, but I don't know if the Germans actually got it into production before the end of the war. I talked about it some posts ago. It is still produced by Spain (CETME) and the locking system is currently used by Heim in their straight pull bolt action rifle.” 10:32:09 AM 5/31/05 “Hey, the MG42 article also talked about the CETME/G3. Kewl.” 10:37:33 AM 5/31/05 “We'll I think I'm in love. I know! I know! A man my age should be passed silly emotional giddiness. I have finally chosen and picked out my new hand gun. The Springfield Armory XD .40 S&W with 4" barrel. I may drop the extra $100 and get the attachable light as well. Then $100 more for concealed carry training and classes and I'll be all set. ![]() ”12:38:03 PM 12/22/05 Oh GOD...not again.... “heck, I've got guns, lots of them, but geeze...you opened Pandora's box here Nige...LOL” 12:41:15 PM 12/22/05 “I own many weapons and MY GUN stays in my pants.” 12:41:26 PM 12/22/05 “No, this is a what do you own/use thread. Not a control thread. Any ass hole that comes in and tries to make it so is only showing their bias as well as their lack of intelligence. There are enough threads for whinning. I want at least one just for us.” 12:43:25 PM 12/22/05 “A Savage model 170, 30-30, is my main hunting rifle. I'd like to get a muzzleloader by next year.” 12:46:54 PM 12/22/05 “an even dozen right now.” 12:55:17 PM 12/22/05 “Nigal, I've got a beautiful "Operation Iraqi Freedom" special edition stainless steel Sigarms P229 in .40, brand new, in the box, that I'll make a heck of a deal on for you. (gold etched, one of 2003) Oh, by the way, good choice. I love Springfield Arms .45's. A buddy of mine just ordered a Wilson combat custom carry piece in .45, complete with shark skin belt, holster, mag pouches etc. I can't believe he did it, but he dropped about $4300 on it by the time they built it custom for him with ambi-safety and novak style tritium sights.
This is almost exactly like my personal carry piece, only the one I carry has tritium night sights, two tone stainless, without all the fancy gold etchings.” 1:58:01 PM 12/22/05 “ ”1:58:24 PM 12/22/05 “Lessee, Mr. Glock, Mr. Firestar, Mr. M1 Carbine, Mr. Enfield, and Mr. Winchester ... five!” 3:01:03 PM 12/22/05 “9mm semi/ 380 semi / 357 revolver / 22 revolver. "I found that if you made men more insecure about their masculinity, they displayed more homophobic attitudes, tended to support the Iraq War more and would be more willing to purchase an SUV over another type of vehicle," said Robb Willer, a sociology doctoral candidate at Cornell. Willer is presenting his findings Aug. 15 at the American Sociological Association's 100th annual meeting in Philadelphia. "Masculine overcompensation is the idea that men who are insecure about their masculinity will behave in an extremely masculine way as compensation. I wanted to test this idea and also explore whether overcompensation could help explain some attitudes like support for war and animosity to homosexuals," Willer said. Willer administered a gender identity survey to a sample of male and female Cornell undergraduates in the fall of 2004. Participants were randomly assigned to receive feedback that their responses indicated either a masculine or a feminine identity. While women's responses were unchanged regardless of the feedback they received, men's reactions "were strongly affected by this feedback," Willer said. "Masculinity-threatened men also reported feeling more ashamed, guilty, upset and hostile than did masculinity-confirmed men," states Willer's report, "Overdoing Gender: Testing the Masculine Overcompensation Thesis." "The masculine overcompensation thesis has its roots in Freudian psychology, but it has become a popularly accepted idea that I felt should be empirically tested and evaluated," Willer said. He questioned subjects about their political attitudes, including how they felt about a same-sex marriage ban and their support for President Bush's handling of the Iraq War. "I created composites from subjects' answers to these and other questions," he said. "I also gave subjects a car-buying vignette, presented as part of a study of purchasing a new car." Masculinity-threatened participants also showed more interest in buying an SUV. "There were no increases for other types of cars," Willer said. The study produced "the predicted results," he said. "The intention of the study was to explore whether masculine overcompensation exists and where. But the point isn't to suggest these are the only factors that can explain these behaviors. Likewise, there may be a wide variety of other behaviors that could increase when men are concerned about their levels of masculinity." In a separate study, Willer verified that support for the Iraq War, homophobia and interest in purchasing an SUV were all considered masculine by study participants. Willer said he and a colleague are planning additional research on subjects' attitudes regarding violence toward women, using the same method for manipulating masculine insecurity. "I'm planning another follow-up to the study that involves taking testosterone samples from participants to see if testosterone levels are a mediating factor in this process," he added. The research involved 111 Cornell undergraduates and was funded by the Department of Sociology at Cornell.” 3:57:41 PM 12/22/05 “Browning HP SKS MAK-90 Lee Enfield Great Grandpas shotgun **FOID CARD** (that's for the people in law enforcement)” 3:58:02 PM 12/22/05 “WOW this thread sure got hosed!
