Tilt, you think I will have any worthwhile viewing with my telescope from NYC on Thursday night?

sounds like you should be able to see it with the naked eye.

But I want to see more, SG! Maybe the craters would look cool going into the eclipse...

i think you can see more definition of the craters during an eclipse, if i remember correctly from my astronomy class. got any way to take pics through your telescope?

Actually, I have taken and posted some pics through a different kind of scope, but not the telescope yet. It worked when I did it, so I will try it and see what happens. Good idea!

I'd definitely give it a shot!

If you think it may be too bright where you are, you might give these guys a jingle or zip them an email. Local clubs will know where there are dark (and secure) viewing sites relatively close by.

I'll be out there toasting a marshmallow and trying to move clouds out of the way by telekinesis, it looks like.

The weather folks are saying it'll be cloudy Wednesday and partly cloudy Thursday night... so I've got my fingers crossed.

uh oh. I just looked at the clock, <G>

It's FABULOUS!! I was covering a school board meeting when a board member says, "Is there a lunar eclipse tonight?"

I got to watch it all the way home, which is 40 minutes. Was almost fully covered by the time I got home. I'm sure it is by now.

Crazy to think what early peoples must have thought about such things....

Just went outside and double-checked. Totally covered, although the top of the moon (last to be covered) is a bit brighter than the bottom. Kind of a bit reddish tint to it all.

Savor the view for me. Very heavy cloud deck here in Chicago. :-( I was looking forward to heading to the park with a glass of wine to enjoy the sight!

so when does it start moving across and off the moon? I gotta go outside and check again.

It was pretty funny. The drive home went by really fast watching that shadow cross the moon. Good thing there wasn't a deer in the middle of the road!!!

Ohhhhhhh, I just now looked out my window to see the moon has returned to about about 7/8th of its glory. Weird how the shadow came over it from bottom to top, and is leaving it by going from left to right. Well, at least to my mind that's weird!

zzzz....it was a semi top of bag nite...la luna!!
started out watching earlier in the yard, thru the trees, while the moon was rising and by the time it got totally dark, i was on the roof with a clear shotfrom over the treetops for the remainder....it is over the roof now and back to full.
it was a clear nite, no skeeters and jillions of fireflies liting the woods around me. now i can sleep the rest of the nite bathed in the light coming thru the skylites.
ya know lizs, i was trying to figure out the same thing about the direction of the shadow as well.....what a great planet we are spinning around the universe on....
i will be hitting the snooze button many times later and be late to work...but it was worth it.

Yowza! Lucked out big time down this way!

The weatherman lied (thankyouthankyouthankyou) and all the clouds and rain that were forecast evaporated (you just can't trust those people). 60%? 40%? HAH! Bologna!

I forgot about how all the stars would come out when the moon went dark... no Milky Way, but I don't want to be GREEDY or anything...

Murphy's Law IN REVERSE for a change, dammit!

Platypus 'Little Nipper' test... check!
SI-5 Gen2 portable speaker test... check! (reception coulda been better, but WTF)

All things considered, a worthwhile effort all around.

I peeked at it. Everytime there's an eclipse I get all jacked for it and everytime I see it I feel disappointed. It's like, what the hell am I doing out here in the cold"? Well, maybe if I had fire-flies too that would be cool. Man, I miss fire-flies! Wish CA had them. Oh, and throw in some cicadas, too! June bugs are cool also.

For fireflies I've got to go with surburban Maryland. They're like MOBBED with the little suckers, roundabout July.

She Coop and I had a pretty good view here. We popped out every five minutes until it was covered.

I too was wondering what the cave dwellers other ancients must have thought when something like this happpened.

Tilt - I was wondering last night - who was the first person (or group) to accurately predict and eclipse (solar or lunar). I was thinking the Kepler timeframe. It just seems that you would need a real good grasp of the sky's patterns.

wish i was more than just a point and shooter and really knew how to take a picture

there was one all dark one that had stars in it, but i think i thought it was blank....anyway...it was a cool way to spend an evening observing and occasionally snapping a view with the camera as it progressed.
hope it is good for you~~~~~~~~~~om shanti
