I give this thread about 15 minutes. Still hoping that Matt doesn't ban me.

See the "Has the well run dry?" thread for cross-reference.

See? These are the type of threads I was talking about being worthless. The threads that point something out that is so obvious that there is no reason to even start it. Might as well start a thread called, “The Sky is Blue”.

"A stick up his butt" is a Southern expression for one that is uptight, angry, or just in a pissy mood.

I grew up on a farm and we alway said somebody's got a corn cob up his butt. Mean's the same thing.

How do you feel about corn cobs Nigal?

My mom grew up on a farm and they used corn cobs when the last year's Sears catalog had been completely used up.

Yeah, I've often wondered if that had anything to do with the origin of that particular saying.

Nobody Sticks Anything Up My Butt....Nobody But Me
Why should anyone care what if anything is up Nigal's butt? It's his butt and he can do anything he wants to it. So maybe we'all should just butt out.

“nigal has a good suggestion that works as it pertians to the 'Rockets cannister cooling down and effecting the output. Stick it in a pan (just a little wa wa does the trick) of H2O and the thing runs great. Even with the little small cannisters. Didn't believe it 'till I tried it. Thanks, nigal!!”

So cold makes it work less well?

Putting the canister in a pan - only the bottom gets wet - helps this?

or, does the can cool during use?

Does output diminish when it cools? Can you just crank it up then?

The cannister gets cold. Putting it in a pan or something with some water, ever a inch, causes the water to dispurse the cold off the cannister which causes it to run better.

Coleman fuel is so much easier and efficient.

stoves that use coleman fuel are loud and annoying to your fellow campers. using a canister stove is much quiet and fast. the water trick works due to the thermal conductivity of water vs air. it takes 100 times the energy to heat or cool water as it does air. the can naturally cools down as the expanding gas escapes the canister and in freezing temps the outside and inside temp equalize and then it stops working. adding a little bit of water around the canister acts as an efficient heat exchanging source for the canister causing it to work well in cold temps. moonglo if you'd ever used a stove you'd have learned this trick long ago and i have used alcohol, coleman, propane, as well as the coleman propane stoves. canisters are best.

I always enjoyed the group breakfasts in the shelters on the AT.

They were always such fun back in the 1970s when most of the stoves were the brass noisemakers and the few drunkards that kept the entire shelter of hikers awake the night before got to listen to then at daybreak.

I don't use stoves dub. The only hot meals I've eaten on the trail are the MREs with chem heaters. I don't drink coffee, and am not insistent on a hot meal. I did recently buy a pocket rocket though - just for the sake of cooking a hot meal on the trail. Still not sure why.

Haha! I tend to avoid people who are unstable or sensitive that the noise of a stove would irritate them.

That dang HOI or jerbear is bad like that. ;-)
I like the sound. It means they will have a warm fire going if I get up.
