The most comprehensive foot book I've seen.

Here's one idea in it among many. Goes something like this...

Staying well hydrated with plenty of electrolyte replenishment will help keep your extremites from swelling (hands and feet). So, with feet that are kept from excessive swelling, there's reduced skin abrasion and tearing against the inner-walls of your footwear.

Sparingly intake of water and sodium contributes to blisters through a greater propensity of swollen extremities.

Since I quit the lightweight cowboy killers (AKA Marlboro Lights), circulation in the extremities has Greatly improved. I don't know about swelling, etc., but the cold toes and fingers aren't nearly as bad.
