Coordinate scaleView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 6 of 6 messages posted.
“Do many of you use a coordinate scale with your topo maps or use a scale with your GPS? If so I,d like to know who sells them. Mine went swimming!” 7:31:59 PM 5/16/03 “I think you can find them on the internet. However, if you are working with degress, I suggest you switch to UTM. I find it much easier to work with UTM coordinates on USGS topo maps. GPS units give you the option of degrees or UTM as well.” 12:21:42 AM 5/17/03 “Thanks Phil. I have found a few items at rei and they,re on the way.I got a couple phone numbers of retailers in map supplies and cartography supply areas. What most offer are of a slide rule variety.” 10:21:47 AM 5/17/03 “benmeadows.com and forestry-suppliers.com both sell various types of clear plastic overlays for maps. Garmin.com has a downloadable version you can print on clear plastic on your home printer. Don't know how accurate the garmin version is, I haven't used it. Most printers have a slight distortion, but I cannot say if in this case if it would make a significant difference.” 11:27:39 PM 5/17/03 “I remembered the garmin version was buried pretty deep on their website. They have a downloadable pdf file called "Using Garmin GPS with Paper Maps". The scale is Appendix D. If you try their scale post back here with feedback on how well it works.” 11:49:23 PM 5/17/03 “Thanks Gordon, I sent for the catalog they offer. Looks like they have alot of equipment to offer.” 5:56:31 PM 5/18/03
