We are shocked and horrified at the beating to death of Birds in a zoo.

But to understand how priveleged we are here take a look at the Congo.

The Congo has been an umimaginable place of human cruelty over the last decade. It sounds like it is getting worse.

They got their name because they taste like pork (ie. pigmeat). So maybe they're just to delicious to pass up.

The Congo has an incredible history for over a century.

Joseph Conrad's "Hear of Darkness" was inspired by his time in the Congo in the late 19th century.

Okay, but could we hear the cliff note version right now? Has the Congo been horrific for a century or has it gotten worse, or maybe, grimace better?

Idi Amin was in Uganda. Mobuto was in Zaire. I'm not sure what the Congo is made up of. These countries change names and I get confused.

Hey, history, geography, its all good. I have my oldest daughter hooked now as well. We were watching the History Channel last night about the Russians sinking the German Gustloff ocean liner full of civilians near the end of World War II.

Yaz... interesting how they estimated that there were more like 10,000 people on the ship....

Yeah, it was sad to hear all those stories of people who lost their lives, or mothers who survived who each lost some of their children. The boat was supposed to have 1500 people on it but it sailed with 10,500 fleeing from the advancing Russian army.

There was a story on one of the news websites about the bovine spongiform encephaly that was pretty scary. I don't think I will eat much meat anymore. But it talked about the Papua New Guinea people where the women and children ate the bodies of the deceased relatives because of the lack of protein in their food sources. A version of the spongiform encephaly was common there as a result of cannibalism. So this might happen to the pygmy eaters as well.
